Weekly Recap #8: Week of 7/2 – 7/8

Hey everyone!  It’s time for another weekly recap post of all things happening on and off the blog. This week I’ll be linking to the Sunday Post, which is hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer and to Stacking the Shelves, which is hosted by Tynga’s Reviews.

I hope everyone who was celebrating had a happy and safe 4th of July holiday.  My husband and I let our son dictate the festivities and ended up hosting the neighborhood kids in his age group for smores and a few fireworks.  It was great fun and the kids even helped with clean up, so that part was even better!

This weekend my husband and I are celebrating our 18th wedding anniverary, which doesn’t even seem possible.  I’ve almost reached that point in life where I’ve been with him for more years than I’ve been without him.

It was a pretty busy week for the blog too.  I managed to get those writing days I was hoping for and am now all caught up on my book reviews (well, for the moment anyway!).  Right now I’m in the process of writing a discussion post for later this week and am starting to read some of the books on my TBR for the summer reading challenge I’m participating in.  Up first is A Court of Wings and Ruin, followed by Strange the Dreamer.

I also had my first DNF in a while this week.  I just couldn’t connect with the characters in Conversations with Friends by Sally Rooney. I found them abrasive and annoying so I ended up ditching that book.  I’ve had a run of great reads though, so I guess I was due for a DNF.  Hopefully that won’t be the start of a run of bad books.  Fingers crossed!

Well, that’s pretty much it for me.  Have a great week, everyone!

Thank you! Yeah, I seem to be on a fantasy kick at the moment and have heard nothing but great things about my upcoming reads so I’m super excited to dive into them. Hope you have a lovely week!

Love that random photo. Glad you had a good week. Can’t wait to hear what you think of One of Us is Lying. I’ve seen mixed reviews. Some people are offended by the ending.

hah, love the random photo! Glad you had a nice 4th of July. Mmm…s’mores. Happy Anniversary too by the way!

I hope you enjoy Illuminae, and Strange the Dreamer is one I need to read ASAP.

Right? I think I ate as many s’mores as the kids did, haha. Thanks for the anniversary wishes! I really can’t wait to dive into Strange the Dreamer. I feel like I’m rushing through my current read so that I can hurry up and get to it! Hope you have a lovely week. 🙂

Thanks, it was great! I won’t complain about the DNF too much. I’m actually pretty impressed that I made it so long without having one. I’ve had a great reading year so far. Hope you have a wonderful week too!

You’re reading ACOWAR? are you enjoying it? I finished that one towards the end of May and thought it was better than ACOTAR but not as good as ACOMAF. I hope you enjoy it!
I need to read Illuminae. I keep seeing it at the library but I haven’t picked it up yet. I really should since I’ve heard it’s super good!

I’m honestly kind of up and down and all around with ACOWAR so far. I’m about 450 pages in and at this point agree with you that it’s better than the first book but not quite as good as the second. Curious to see how I feel about the second half of it.

Happy anniversary! And glad you got some writing time- can’t wait to read your discussion post. Sounds like you had a nice 4th. It was nice here too, the weather cooperated. 🙂

Hope you like One Of Us Is Lying. I’ve seen some mixed reviews but I liked it. And I LOVED Eight Hundred grapes by Laura Dave, so I’m really curious what you’ll think of Hello, Sunshine.

Thanks! I’ll be curious to see if I like One of Us is Lying. It has been one of my anticipated reads so I’ll be disappointed if I don’t. Oh and I just posted my review of Hello, Sunshine this morning.

I’ll look forward to reading your review of The Library of Fates. I thought it was a pretty good read. I had a couple of issues with it, but what I loved about it made up for those.
I hope you have a wonderful week too!
