Weekly Recap #11: Week of 7/23 – 7/29
Hey everyone! It’s time for another weekly recap post of all things happening on and off the blog. This week I’ll be linking to the Sunday Post, which is hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer and to Stacking the Shelves, which is hosted by Tynga’s Reviews.
This week was kind of an up and down week on the blog. Thanks to the library not allowing me to renew two books that other people had placed holds on, I had to switch up what I had originally planned to read so Caraval got pushed back to this week and I read Words in Deep Blue and When Dimple Met Rishi instead. I guess I could have just turned the library books back in unread, but I had waited so long to get my hands on them in the first place, I just figured it was best to get through them and get them off my TBR. Caraval will happen this week though. I’m determined, lol!
Girl in Snow, another book I planned to read this past week unfortunately ended up being a DNF. I didn’t get far enough into it to do a full review on the blog, but it just wasn’t for me. It was supposed to be a murder mystery, but the pacing was just so slow that I kept losing interest. I also didn’t particularly like either of the main characters, which didn’t help matters.
Off the blog, it was a fairly quiet week. Work has been hectic because we’re currently short-staffed, but I did finally put in for a week of vacation. I can’t decide if I’m going to travel or just relax and make it a stay-cation, but either way, I’m excited to have some time off before my son goes back to work. I also started a new low-carb diet this week, which has been pure hell, because carbs are my life. Hopefully I’ll adjust to the diet soon because right now I’m the epitome of the word ‘Hangry.’ I also spent way too much time online looking for easy-to-make low-carb recipes. So many of the recipes I see are too complicate or too time-consuming to make, or they’re just so overloaded with ingredients that I don’t even want to think about what my grocery bill would look like if I bought all of them. A little frustrating to say the least.
Oh well, that’s pretty much it for me. Have a great week, everyone!

Haha, I love that ecard. That’s basically my life, and why my house is never totally tidy! I hear you on the low-carb stuff. Every time my husband wants to do low-carb, he gets a migraine the day he starts it. I just love carbs too much so I don’t even try. Everything in moderation!
Haha, mine too!
Yeah, low-carb is tough. I don’t know how long I’ll be able to keep it up, but hopefully once I lose what I want to lose, then I can eat them in moderation.
That is disappointing to hear about Girl in Snow since I have that one. Yes carbs are life and I try not to over do it but it is hard. Have a great week!
I really hope you’ll enjoy Girl in Snow more than I did. It sounded so promising so I was really disappointed not to connect better with it. Have a great week!
Good luck with the low carb thing. I love them so much. I actually have a book called The Carb Lover’s Diet, and I followed it for a while. The food was good and most of the recipes I picked were raw. I will say, I felt great. I always bumped books when my holds come available at the library. I mostly use Overdrive, and I will wait months for a book, therefore, it has priority when I am reading. I loved both the books you got (and Caraval too).
Hmmm, I think I need to check out The Carb Lover’s Diet. That sounds like it might save me a lot of grief, lol.
Carbs are my fave go-to too. I am curious about Warcross. Happy reading.
I can’t wait to read Warcross. It will be my first experience reading Marie Lu, so I hope it’s a good one. Have a great week!
You have some reviews I am looking forward to this week. Enjoy the books you have to read this week. I have the audio book of Caraval but I haven’t listened to it, I have a horrible time with audiobooks. Everyone says it is really good. 🙂
Jenea’s Book Obsession’s Sunday Post
Caraval is one of my most anticipated reads for this year so I’m really hoping I love it, especially since I’ve waited so long to finally read it. Hopefully we’ll both love it! Have a wonderful week!
Aw sorry that Girl In Snow was a dNF. Caraval though- looking forward to your thoughts on that since I’ve been undecided forever. Warcross is another one I think I’m going to get. I need to try Marie Lu, so why not with that one lol?
Hope you liked One Of Us Is Lying.
Just published my review for One of Us is Lying. I had one issue with it but still enjoyed it overall. Warcross will be my first experience with Marie Lu as well, so hopefully it will be a great one. 🙂
I need to read One of Us is Lying! I honestly don’t know anything about it but that title is really intriguing… I’m super curious to read it! ALSO Caraval! That has been on my TBR since it first came out! I really need to get to that one
Caraval has been on my TBR forever too. It’s actually one of my most anticipated books for this year so I can’t even believe I haven’t read it yet, lol.
Oh gosh, it’s so difficult to find easy, but healthy food to make. I need to find new things too! I was doing well with meal planning, but I’ve been off for awhile now!

It is very difficult and then there’s the added frustration that I get bored with food easily, so even if I find a few recipes that work for me, I’ll get bored with them pretty quickly. Someone else who commented mentioned a carb lover’s cookbook so I might take a look at that and see if it meets my needs.
Wow, you got lots of great titles here! I hope you love Caraval! It’s definitely a favorite of mine, and I can’t wait to read the sequel. Probably a companion sequel, because Caraval works well as a standalone. ;D I hope you enjoy all of your new books!
Have a fabulous week, Suzanne. =)
Check out my STS post!
Caraval is one of my most anticipated reads of the year. Still can’t believe I’m just now getting around to it, but I’m glad to hear how much you enjoyed it. Hope you have a great week!
I need to start The Ready Made Thief soon as well. I’ve haven’t really heard that much about it. I’ve been seeing the Dimple and Rishi book everywhere it seems!
I just started The ReadyMade Thief yesterday. It has been kind of an up and down read for me, but it reminds me a lot of The Divinci Code so far, just with younger characters. Hope you enjoy it when you start reading!
So fun that you are on low carb atm, I just started my high carb diet lol
Enjoy all your books 🙂
My Book Haul
LOL! A high carb diet would probably better suit me. Thanks!
