Weekly Recap #113: Week of 7/14 – 7/20
It’s time for another weekly recap post of all things happening on and off the blog. This week I’ll be linking to the Sunday Post, which is hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer and to Stacking the Shelves, which is hosted by Tynga’s Reviews.
Not much to report this week. As I’m sure many of you are, we have been under an excessive heat warning here for a few days now. I don’t even want to think about how hot it is out there and have spent most of my time inside either reading or working on indoor projects that needed to be done. My sister-in-law is in town from Florida so I ventured out to visit with her, but other than that, I’m basically in a relationship with my A/C right now.
I got a lot of reading done this week, although most of it was not what I had planned to read. I mostly ignored my ARCs and instead read a couple of books I own, Victoria Schwab’s City of Ghosts and Holly Black’s The Wicked King. I don’t know that I’ll review either since I don’t feel like I have much to say about them, but I enjoyed both and rated them 4 stars each on Goodreads. The ending of The Wicked King was outstanding though so I can’t wait to get my hands on the final book in that series. I also fell behind in my reading for the IronThrone readalong for the first time. I’ve only read 4 out of the 10 chapters we were supposed to read this week so I’m hoping to catch up on that today.
My giveaway for a copy of The Bookish Life of Nina Hill ended this week and Angela at Musings of a Literary Wanderer was the winner. Congrats Angela! I hope it’s a great read for you. 🙂
I can’t think of much else so I’m going to stop babbling now. Have a great week, everyone!

Happy reading, I keep seeing The Book Charmer all over blogland. We’re in the middle of a heatwave too here. Stay cool!
Thanks, you too!
I’m with you and going out as little as possible. I went food shopping yesterday at 6am, and have not left the house since. But, cooler weather is coming for a few days. So, something to look forward to. Stay cool!
Thanks, you too!
I feel you on the heat wave. This weekend I’ve been staying inside a lot.
Hopefully it will cool down for both of us soon!
Ooh! You have the Sarah Jio book!! Looking forward to your review of that one, Suzanne. Thrilled you added Evidence of the Affair.
Thanks again for the head’s up on the TJR book!
I LOVED A Clash of Kings. The first book was the setup, getting to know the world and the characters. This second book was so enjoyable!
It’s a re-read for me and I’m loving it even more the second time around. I just seem to notice so much more.
I hope it cools down for you soon! I’m almost grateful it’s mid winter here.
I want to read Things You Save In a Fire.
Wishing you a great reading week
Thanks, hope you have a great week too!
I’m definitely staying indoors this weekend, too! Lots of reading and catching up on chores. I was finally able to read Evidence of the Affair and loved it!
Thanks again for The Bookish Life of Nina Hill, can’t wait to start it!
I’m really excited to read Evidence of the Affair so I’m glad to hear you enjoyed it. 🙂
I liked The Wicked King much more than the first book and also excited about the last one.
The city of ghosts was a disappointment unfortunately ((( but maybe next book will be better.
I did the audio of City of Ghosts and thought that was good. I’ll probably go that route for the second book too.
I feel you on the heat. It is SO miserable. I went out this morning to grocery shop and have been holed up inside ever since. I plan to stay here in the AC until I have to leave for the office tomorrow morning. 🙂 I agree the ending of The Wicked King had me desperate for what happens next! And I can’t wait to see what you think of Say You Still Love Me. My review probably won’t post until next week.
Yes, I can’t wait to get my hands on the third book in the series after that ending. I totally did not see that coming at all.
Urg. Those temperatures sound horrible – and I like the sunshine! No wonder you are tucked inside:))
Thankfully it has cooled off a little today. It feels like a normal summer day rather than the hell we had been experiencing.
We’re supposed to get hit with another heatwave this week but I guarantee it’ll be nothing compared to yours!
I envy your air conditioning. 🙂
Enjoy your reading and I hope you have a good week.
Thanks, hope you have a good week too!
Oh gosh, this heat has been crazy. It’s supposed to rain tonight and off and on tomorrow, so this week should be a bit cooler. Thank goodness. LOL I recently read City of Ghosts and really liked it too. I’m excited for the sequel.
I’m excited for the sequel too. I went the audio route for the first book so I’ll probably do that for the second book too.
I need to start that Holly Black series, I’ve been meaning to for ages.
It has been hot, I really hope we get a cool off soon. Some places are so sweltering right now. I love that Totally Random- so true!
The Escape Room looks like it could be pretty good.
I have high hopes for The Escape Room, although I have seen a couple of mixed reviews for it. Fingers crossed it’s a good one!
Oooh! The Escape Room looks really good! And yeah, it has been HOT! Absurdly hot. I’m already over the summer and it’s only just begun!
Same here. I don’t mind it hot, but this has ridiculous. Thankfully this evening it finally rained and cooled things down a bit. I’m hoping it stays that way and that the temps don’t climb right back up to where they were.
Sometimes you just gotta take a break from the ARCs and read what you feel like reading 🙂 Glad you enjoyed the books! And yeah, staying indoors and reading a book works for me lol.
I agree on taking a break from ARCs every once in a while. It felt really good to get multiple books read from my backlist this week.
The weather has been terrible!! I’m glad you have mostly been able to stay inside. I spent most of the weekend outside because my mom decided to do a garage sale 😂 (it was a lot of fun despite being miserably hot!) I came home yesterday to find my thermostat battery had died and turned my AC off and it was 81 inside my house 🙁
Also, I agree the ending to The Wicked King was awesome!
81 inside your house? Wow! I think I would have melted, lol.
Stay cool Suzanne! We are also under a heat wave in Belgium… Now I am happy you liked The Wicked King and as you said …that ending!
That ending was just wow. I did not see it coming at all and now I need the third book asap!
I haven’t done a Sunday Post this week but I’ll be joining in at the end of the month. Keep drinking those chilled drinks, Suzanne and stay cool. X 😘
Thanks, I’m trying. 🙂
LOVE that map pic! We’ve been under the extreme heat warning too—it’s been crazy out there!
It really has been crazy. Thankfully it started to rain here a little while ago and the temp has dropped a bit. I’m hoping it stays that way.
I’ve been complaining about it being 30 C (~86 F) here in the past couple of days, so I can’t imagine what it’s like in the hotter areas of the globe. Hope it’ll cool down soon!
Thankfully it finally cooled down here this week. I don’t think I could have taken many more 100+ degree days.
