Top Ten Tuesday – Authors Who Have Become Auto-Buys for Me
Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together. Top Ten Tuesday has been one of my favorite memes ever since I started blogging, so huge thanks to Jana for taking over the hosting duties!
This week’s TTT topic is Auto-Buy Authors, those authors you love so much that you don’t even need to read the synopsis when they have a new book coming out because you already know you’re going to buy it. My list of auto-buy authors has really grown since I’ve started blogging because I’ve branched out with my reading and tried a lot of new-to-me authors based on excellent reviews from my fellow bloggers. I couldn’t narrow down to just 10 authors this week so I’m sharing 13 of my favorite auto-buy authors.

Authors Who Have Become Auto-Buys for Me
V.E. Schwab is one of my all-time favorite fantasy authors. I’ve read and loved 7 of her books so far.
Kristin Hannah is my favorite writer of historical fiction. I didn’t start reading her books until The Nightingale,
but I loved that one and The Great Alone and look forward to reading both her new releases and going back and adding her backlist to my collection.
With Letters to the Lost, More Than We Can Tell, and Call It What You Want, Kemmerer has become one of my favorite YA contemporary authors.
Three books in and I’m still in love with Sager’s thrillers. He needs to write faster because he is my go-to author now when I want a twisty, suspenseful read.
Bardugo is another favorite fantasy author. I loved her Grisha trilogy, her Six of Crows duology, and I’m very excited for her adult debut this fall.
I used to always say I didn’t like to read romance until I tried my first Christina Lauren book.
So far I’ve read and loved three of their books and already have two more sitting on my shelf waiting to be read. I definitely like Christina Lauren’s brand of romance.
Menon is another favorite YA contemporary author. I love her feisty female characters and her soft, cinnamon roll boys. Her stories are perfect when I’m in the mood for a cute, fun read.
Where I look to Menon for those cute and fun reads, I look to Angie Thomas to deliver when I want a powerful, hard-hitting book.
Her first two novels, The Hate U Give and On the Come Up, were both incredible reads and I can’t wait to add more books from her to my collection.
I’ve had two 5-star reads from TJR already this year with Daisy Jones & the Six and The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo.
As with Kristin Hannah, I want to buy all of her new releases and I want to go back and get her entire backlist too. I need to read every word she has written.
S.K. Ali has become another favorite YA contemporary author. Her writing is gorgeous and she always explores such relevant and timely topics.
Kristoff is a favorite sci-fi/fantasy author. I love his solo writings, I love it when he pairs up with other authors like Amie Kaufman, I just love everything he does.
I’ve read 7 of his books so far and can’t wait to get my hands on the rest of them
I love Bennett’s YA contempory novels because they’re just always so easy to relate to and they usually feature the sweetest friendships and relationships.
They are auto-buys when I want a book that will make me smile.
Blake Crouch has become my go-to guy when I want a sci-fi book that just makes me go WTF did I just read?!
Dark Matter and Recursion were both mind blowing reads and I look forward to see what he comes up with next.

Who are some of your auto-buy authors? Do we share any?
Oh you are SO making me want to try Riley Sager again! And okay, Menon too.
For me, Sager’s books have only gotten better and better since the first one.
Great list! Leigh Bardugo made my list this week, too, and Jay Kristoff and Taylor Jenkins Reid are both authors I really want to try. I want to read more of Riley Sager’s thrillers, too. 🙂
They’re all just so great!
I haven’t read the books from any of your auto buy authors. 😉 Looks like I’ve got some Amazon/Goodreads browsing to do. Thanks for the recommendations, Suzanne. x
You’re welcome!
I’m slowly getting on the Christina Lauren bandwagon – I’ve now read two of their books and really enjoyed them! After Dark Matter and Recursion, I’d also say that Blake Crouch is an auto-read, if not auto-buy author for me, too!
Glad we both had TJR on our lists!
TJR is fast becoming a favorite of mind. I can’t wait to go back and read more of her older books.
I see a few of my auto reads on your list…Christina Lauren, Blake Crouch, Kristin Hannah & Riley Sager. I obviously like your choices💜
We have great taste in books! 🙂
Ooh V.E. Schwab for sure! I just love her books.
-Lauren
She’s the best. 🙂
Big yes to Blake Crouch and Jay Kristoff! I’ve been with Jay from the beginning, when he published Stormdancer. That series needs to be brought back because I think a lot of his fans missed it.😁
I definitely missed that one but would love to read it. Everything he does is brilliant.
VE Schwab is an auto-buy author for sure. She tends to write faster than I can read, though. I need to catch up.
I’m still catching up too but I love everything of hers I’ve read so far.
Kristin Hannah is on my list, too. I’ve been reading her books for years and years and I no longer have to even know what her new releases are about. I know I’m going to read them. TJR is another that has impressed me so much that I’m on board for whatever she writes.
They are both fantastic!
I just finished a Riley Sager book last and it was really good! You have some really good authors on your list.
Thanks!
V.E. Schwab and Leigh Bardugo are two of my favourite writers. I’ll read anything they write!
Happy readings! 😉
Tânia @MyLovelySecret
Same! They are both just fantastic!
Great List! I’ve read a few of these authors and have a few on my tbr.
Thanks!
Angie Thomas has popped up on a ton of lists this week. I wish I’d remembered to include her on mine!
My TTT.
I’ve come across several authors that I can’t believe I forgot to include on mine.
Brigid Kemmerer is also one of my auto buy Suzanne!
I love her books so much!
Kristin Hannah is on my list also. I do not enjoy Historical Fiction but Kristin Hannah made them beautiful, loved those ones also.
I do enjoy historical fiction, but I think hers is the best I’ve ever read.
Jay Kristoff is such a great one. Even though I haven’t liked his two recent sci-fi releases, I still automatically plan to read anything he writes in the future, haha.
I’ve loved everything so far, so hopefully my luck with his books will continue. 🙂
You know Menon and Bennett made my list. Love them to pieces! Ali was shortlisted, and I know I will be reading everything she writes. Kemmerer too. There is no doubt in my mind, that CLo would have made my list, had I included adult books.
I just saw your list. It’s fantastic. Lots of my favorites on it. 🙂
Brigid and Jenn were mine! I stopped reading and blogging for almost 2 years so I missed out on their releases. I hope to catch up soon!
Their latest releases have been great reads for me, so I hope you love them too. 🙂
I have only read Taylor Jenkins but I have many books by some of the other authors on my TBR.. hope to read some of their works soon.
I hope you enjoy them if you try them.
Blake Crouch- I completely agree. His stuff is crazy! Recursion anjd dark Matter both blew my mind. And Taylor Jenkins- Reid is on a ton of lists this week, and rightly so- I’ve only read one of her books but it was very good.
Jenn Bennet is someone I want to try.
I really can’t wait to read more from Crouch. He is fantastic!
I love Leigh Bardugo, too! 💜✨
I loved The Hate U Give, and I need to read On the Come Up. 👍✨
I did the audio version for On the Come Up and thought it was wonderful.
Omg, yes yes yes to everything on this list! I wish I could’ve listed all my auto buy authors and I didn’t realize just how many I’d consider auto buy until I did this post 😂 But TJR, Schwab, CLo, and Kristoff made it onto my list too. Most of the others in this list are also considered mostly auto buys for me! Great list 😃
Oh I know. I could have easily done 10 more that I consider auto-buys, lol.
Christina Lauren and Taylor Jenkins Reid are both on my virtual and literal bookshelves waiting to be read… I really must get on to that!
I hope you love them as much as I do! 🙂
YAAAAS! Totally agree with Jenn Bennett! What I love about her books is that no matter what your usually reading preferences are, young adult, romance, contemporaries or just anything that sounds like a great read, she appeals to a wide audience. Brigid Kemmerer is another one that I’m really warming to as well, I’ve loved her last few books but really didn’t like her Elementals series. She’s definitely matured as an author. Great list Suzanne, will be checking a few of your favourites out!
Glad to hear you’re a fan of both Bennett and Kemmerer too. 🙂
Great List!!! Schawb is awesome and I have seen her on so many people’s lists 😀
She really is the best. I recommend her to pretty much everyone who ever asks me for book recs.
Schwab is on a lot of lists including my own! Great list!
Lauren @ Always Me
Love her so much!
I think I own all of Brigid’s books, including A Curse So Dark And Lonely despite the fact I’ve only actually read Letters To The Lost, that’s how much of an impact that one book had on me, must get round to reading the others!
I hope you enjoy all of the rest of Brigid’s books. I think she’s such a great storyteller and I adore her characters.
I have only read the Great Alone, but this author is already one of my favourite))
The Great Alone and The Nightingale are my favorites from her so far but I can’t wait to read more of her books.
I loved The Great Alone – I need to get hold of her other books, too. But since reading your list – it’s Blake Crouch that I need to get hold of… Thank you for this great article:)
Oh yes, I think you would love Blake Crouch! 🙂
