Can’t Wait Wednesday – WHISPER NETWORK by Chandler Baker
“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted at Breaking the Spine, which encourages fellow bloggers to spotlight upcoming releases that we’re excited about. It is a meme that I have loved participating in for over a year now, but as Jill is no longer actively posting, from now on I’ll just be linking to Can’t Wait Wednesday, hosted by Tressa at Wishful Endings, which is a spinoff of the original WoW meme.

My selection for this week is WHISPER NETWORK by Chandler Baker. This one caught my attention because it just seems so timely because of the Me Too movement and more and more women feeling empowered enough to fight back against men who behave inappropriately. I also read on Netgalley that it has a humorous angle to it as well, which immediately brought to mind the old 9 to 5 movie with Dolly Parton, Jane Fonda, and Lily Tomlin. (BTW – If you haven’t seen that movie, you are really missing out. It’s hilarious!)

From Goodreads:
Four women learn their boss (a man who’s always been surrounded by rumors about how he treats women) is next in line to be CEO—what will happen when they decide enough is enough?
Sloane, Ardie, Grace, and Rosalita are four women who have worked at Truviv, Inc., for years. The sudden death of Truviv’s CEO means their boss, Ames, will likely take over the entire company. Ames is a complicated man, a man they’ve all known for a long time, a man who’s always been surrounded by…whispers. Whispers that have always been ignored by those in charge. But the world has changed, and the women are watching Ames’s latest promotion differently. This time, they’ve decided enough is enough.
Sloane and her colleagues set in motion a catastrophic shift within every floor and department of the Truviv offices. All four women’s lives—as women, colleagues, mothers, wives, friends, even adversaries—will change dramatically as a result.
“If only you had listened to us,” they tell us on page one, “none of this would have happened.”

Thanks!
I can definitely see how this could be a funny story, mixed with some serious stuff – sounds really good!
Doesn’t it? I really hope it’s as good as it sounds.
WOW. This sounds intense.
Doesn’t it? It sounds intense but an extended blurb I read also promises humor, so I’m very intrigued.
This sounds amazing! Not my usual genre, but I might have to make an exception 😊

What a teaser synopsis and the possibilities of what direction this could take … Great find!

Right? I love that it sounds so intense yet promises to have a humor angle as well.
Cool concept and this is the first time I’m seeing this one. Thanks for sharing it with us!
You’re welcome!
That “if only” line right there makes me want to read this and see what happens. Especially since in real life I don’t know how many times I’ve seen iffy people get promoted or things about them get swept under the rug.

Right? So frustrating to see that happen.
This sounds like it could be very interesting. I hope you enjoy reading it.

Doesn’t it?!
This sounds like such an intense and amazing read! Definitely adding this to my TBR list – thanks so much for sharing!
You’re welcome!
I love your mention of 9 to 5 since my mom and I were just quoting that movie the other night.. Such a classic. 🙂

I love that movie so much!
I absolutely love how empowered this sounds and important. I’m assuming this was probably inspired by the Me Too movement and explores the misogynist sexism and harassment women face even in the corporate workplace. If only, if only women were being heard and I think this is one book that a lot of female readers will find satisfying. Thanks so much for sharing Suzanne, looking forward to grabbing a copy!

I think so too. I even found the synopsis all by itself immensely satisfying, lol.
This sounds so good, Suzanne! I love how much of a teaser we are given! Thanks for putting this book on my radar!
I really hope the story is as good as it sounds. I read an extended synopsis on Netgalley that promises a humorous angle that has me very intrigued.
I like the sound of this book. It’s great to see one that addresses workplace harassment. I do hope this book turns out great!

9 to 5 is the BEST! And this book — I geuinely hope it’s as good as the blurb sounds!

I hope so too and I really hope it leans toward a 9 To 5 style story in terms of the humor.
