Can’t Wait Wednesday – CODE NAME SAPPHIRE by Pam Jenoff
“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted at Breaking the Spine, which encourages fellow bloggers to spotlight upcoming releases that we’re excited about. It is a meme that I have loved participating in since I first started blogging, but as Jill is no longer actively posting, from now on I’ll be linking to Can’t Wait Wednesday, hosted by Tressa at Wishful Endings, which is a spinoff of the original WoW meme.

My selection for this week is CODE NAME SAPPHIRE by Pam Jenoff. I’ve been on the hunt for new WWII historical fiction to add to my TBR and came across this one. My last two reads from Jenoff were both five stars, so I’m excited to get my hands on a copy of her latest, which sounds like such a powerful story.

From Goodreads:
A woman must rescue her cousin’s family from a train bound for Auschwitz in this riveting tale of bravery and resistance, from the bestselling author of The Lost Girls of Paris
1942. Hannah Martel has narrowly escaped Nazi Germany after her fiancé was killed in a pogrom. When her ship bound for America is turned away at port, she has nowhere to go but to her cousin Lily, who lives with her family in Brussels. Fearful for her life, Hannah is desperate to get out of occupied Europe. But with no safe way to leave, she must return to the dangerous underground work she thought she had left behind.
Seeking help, Hannah joins the Sapphire Line, a secret resistance network led by a mysterious woman named Micheline and her enigmatic brother Mateo. But when a grave mistake causes Lily’s family to be arrested and slated for deportation to Auschwitz, Hannah finds herself torn between her loyalties. How much is Hannah willing to sacrifice to save the people she loves? Inspired by incredible true stories of courage and sacrifice, Code Name Sapphire is a powerful novel about love, family and the unshakable resilience of women in even the hardest of times.

Thank you! 🙂
This sounds like a great WWII tale.
I really hope it will be. 🙂
I am on a break from WWII books and so many keep coming out. They all sound good, I just overdid it, LOL. I hope you enjoy this one when you get a chance to read it. Have a great day!
I did that a few years ago and it took me a while to get back to them. They can be emotionally draining.
I’m always up for WWII historical fiction!
Same here and I’m excited that so many good ones are coming out in 2023.
I haven’t read historical fiction in a while, but Code Name Sapphire seems like one I’d like. For now, I’m looking forward to Christmas books 🙂
There are some fun Christmas books coming out this year. I hope you enjoy them. 🙂

It’s been years since I’ve read anything from Jenoff but I loved what I did read.
What a horrible situation Hannah finds herself in.
I really need to go back and read her older stuff. I’ve only read her most recent and loved everything I read.
I love Pam Jenoff’s books. Thanks for the heads up, Suzanne.
I do too. You’re welcome!
Wow — why did we not learn more about women and what they did in the war, considering this gem is inspired by true stories?
Right? I completely agree with you.
I am adding that one to my TBR as I love WWII stories!!
I hope it’s a great read for us both. 🙂
