Can’t Wait Wednesday – RAYNE & DELILAH’S MIDNITE MATINEE by Jeff Zentner
“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted at Breaking the Spine, which encourages fellow bloggers to spotlight upcoming releases that we’re excited about. It is a meme that I have loved participating in for over a year now, but as Jill is no longer actively posting, from now on I’ll just be linking to Can’t Wait Wednesday, hosted by Tressa at Wishful Endings, which is a spinoff of the original WoW meme.

My selection for this week is Rayne & Delilah’s Midnight Matinee by Jeff Zentner. The cover for this book is initially what caught my eye, but then what really sealed the deal for me was Rainbow Rowell’s comment on the front cover: “Anyone can break your heart–Jeff Zentner can also make you laugh out loud!” That sounds like my kind of read so sign me up!
RAYNE & DELILAH’S MIDNITE MATINEE by Jeff Zentner
Publication Date: February 26, 2019
From Goodreads:
A contemporary novel about two best friends who must make tough decisions about their futures–and the TV show they host–in their senior year of high school.
Every Friday night, best friends Delia and Josie become Rayne Ravenscroft and Delilah Darkwood, hosts of the campy creature feature show Midnite Matinee on the local cable station TV Six.
But with the end of senior year quickly approaching, the girls face tough decisions about their futures. Josie has been dreading graduation, as she tries to decide whether to leave for a big university and chase her dream career in mainstream TV. And Lawson, one of the show’s guest performers, a talented MMA fighter with weaknesses for pancakes, fantasy novels, and Josie, is making her tough decision even harder.
Scary movies are the last connection Delia has to her dad, who abandoned the family years ago. If Midnite Matinee becomes a hit, maybe he’ll see it and want to be a part of her life again. And maybe Josie will stay with the show instead of leaving her behind, too.
As the tug-of-war between growing up and growing apart tests the bonds of their friendship, Josie and Delia start to realize that an uncertain future can be both monstrous…and momentous.

I think it’s going to be a fun read.
This sounds so unique! I love the idea of a story revolving around a teen hosted TV show, it could be really good!

Me too!
I have this one on my wishlist as well! I am really intrigued by the whole creature feature show aspect. Zentner seems to write books that rip my heart out, so I think that I will have to prepare before I read it. lol I hope that it is one we both enjoy. 🙂
This will be my first Zentner read so I’m pretty excited. I’ve always heard great things about his books.

You’re welcome! 🙂
This sounds exactly like my kind of read too Suzanne and have just added it to my Goodreads. This will be my first book by Jeff Zentner but have heard such wonderful things about both Goodbye Days and The Serpent King. I love the unique setting, I can’t think of any other young adult read taking place in a community television studio, sounds like a John Hughes film. Thank you so much for putting it on my radar! ♡♡

This will be my first time reading Zentner as well. I keep hearing great things about his books so I’m overdue to try one.
This sounds like a lot of fun! Can’t say I’ve ever heard of something with quite the same plot idea, so that really intrigues me!
Right? It sounds unique for sure!
Is that a dog at the bottom of the steps? Guess you can see my priority. I’ll be looking for an answer is some reviews when they start coming out. Hope you enjoy the book 🙂
It definitely looks like a dog but I guess I’ll find out for certain when I read it. 🙂
