Can’t Wait Wednesday – Spotlight on REIGN OF THE FALLEN

“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted at Breaking the Spine, which encourages fellow bloggers to spotlight upcoming releases that we’re excited about.  It is a meme that I have  loved participating in for over a year now, but as Jill is no longer actively posting, from now on I’ll just be linking to Can’t Wait Wednesday, hosted by Tressa, which is a spinoff of the original WoW meme.

My selection for this week is Reign of the Fallen by Sarah Glenn Marsh.  I have to admit the cover is what initially attracted me to this book.  The skull wearing a crown certainly does make an impression.  But then when I read the synopsis, it captures my attention every bit as much as the cover.  Someone is intentionally creating zombies?!  Why?!  I have to know!

REIGN OF THE FALLEN by Sarah Glenn Marsh

Publication Date:  January 23, 2018

From Goodreads:

An LGBT fantasy series that follows a talented necromancer who must face down a deadly nemesis who has learned how to turn her magic into a weapon.

Odessa is one of Karthia’s master necromancers, catering to the kingdom’s ruling Dead. Whenever a noble dies, it’s Odessa’s job to raise them by retrieving their souls from a dreamy and dangerous shadow world called the Deadlands. But there is a cost to being raised–the Dead must remain shrouded, or risk transforming into zombie-like monsters known as Shades. If even a hint of flesh is exposed, the grotesque transformation will begin.

A dramatic uptick in Shade attacks raises suspicions and fears among Odessa’s necromancer community. Soon a crushing loss of one of their own reveals a disturbing conspiracy: someone is intentionally creating Shades by tearing shrouds from the Dead–and training them to attack. Odessa is faced with a terrifying question: What if her necromancer’s magic is the weapon that brings Karthia to its knees?

A lavish fantasy with a surprising and breathtaking LGBT romance at its core, Reign of the Fallen is a gutsy, unpredictable read that will grab readers by the throat and never let go….

Even with an epic, ominous cover and title respectively, I would not have picked this to do with necromancy! I should have paid closer attention to the sparkly skull and crown! Intriguing pick, Suzanne.

I was the same way. I was captivated by the unusual cover for a while before I realized what the book was even about, lol.

I can’t wait for Wonder Woman either. Leigh Bardugo is a new favorite author of mine and I’m so thrilled she’s the one who wrote it. I think it’s going to be one of those books that actually lives up to the hype 🙂

I’m so ready for this one! Generally, anything ‘zombie’ is a major turn off for me in books/movies, but I just love the sound of it! I hope you enjoy it. 🙂

What an interesting premise! This one is new to me and it sounds like it is an amazing and diverse fantasy. I will definitely be adding it to the TBR. Thanks for sharing it! 🙂

This looks good, and yeah that’s quite the cover! Sarah Glenn Marsh too- I just read her Fear The Drowning Dee a while back. It wasn’t bad…

I still need to read Fear the Drowning Deep. I don’t think I’ll ever get through all of the books I need to read, lol.

I’ve seen this one around for request but I’m holding strong!!! I don’t want to overwhelm myself any more than I already have! It’s a great pick though and thanks to this post I’m going to have a harder time squeezing my eyes closed and clicking the cross instead of ‘Request’. 😉

Haha! I actually haven’t requested it either, for the same reason. I’m trying really hard to get caught up on my ARCs while I’m on vacation though so that I can feel free to start hitting that ‘request’ button again, haha!
