Top 10 Books I’m Thankful to Have Finally Read This Year

Created at canva.com

Top Ten Tuesday is a fun weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.  This week’s topic is Top Ten Books I’m Thankful For (Happy Thanksgiving week in the USA!).  I tweaked this topic a bit since I couldn’t begin to name just ten books that I’m most thankful for.  Instead, I decided to go with the top ten books I’m thankful to have finally gotten off of my TBR.  I’ve always accumulated books faster than I can read them, but this seems to have gotten out of control since I started blogging.  Older books have been pushed aside in favor of newer releases, and I’ve also gotten so caught up in immediately buying books that were super-hyped but then setting them aside for months (*cough* more like years) in favor of other new releases.  This year I decided to actively start getting my backlist under control by participating in several challenges designed to do just that.  It’s nowhere near under control yet, but I am happy that I was able to knock off this list of books, each of which had been on my TBR for at least a year, and quite often, several years.

Happy Thanksgiving to all who are celebrating this week!

I read 6 of these, and they were all fantastic! There are so many books I want to get to on my TBR (especially the ones I actually have – no excuses there). Glad you got to these and are happy you made the effort!

Yeah, actually having them in my possession seems to make me slow down in my urgency to read a book. No idea why. I guess maybe the idea that it’s just there whenever I’m ready for it. I’m planning to make my backlist a priority in 2018, that is, if I can keep myself from getting too distracted by new releases, lol.

Great list – I wish that I was doing as well with my TBR – but, hopefully, with less requests in the pipeline I should start making a dent in my own books soon. Except at the back of my mind something sits lurking ‘the best laid plans, etc, etc’

LOL! I know, right? As much as I tend to get caught up in the new releases, I’m amazed I even knocked 10 older books off my list. Continuing to put a dent in the backlist is probably my number 1 goal for 2018.

I’ve read a couple of these, and although they didn’t become favorites, I’m still glad I experienced them. Like yours, my TBR has been exploding lately, and I don’t know how I’m going to get to everything!

Same. Mine is completely out of control these days. I’ll definitely be doing more backlist challenges next year in hopes of continuing to peck away at it.

I still need to read Heartless and A Monster Calls. I’m trying to focus more on books that I own, since they do get pushed aside for ARCs and whatnot. I loved Illuminae!

A bunch of my friends keep telling me I need to watch the Outlander series. I may have to check it out soon. I read the first book and thought it was pretty good.

I haven’t read Everything, Everything but my daughter and I did watch the movie. It was so good and I would love to pick up the book too. I do have the audio book of Caraval, I really need to get listening. 🙂

Love your take on the topic! I have a lot of work on my backlist as well. Illuminae is definitely one of those books that I’m also thankful I finally read this year! 🙂 A Monster Calls, Heartless and When We Collided are still on my TBR so I hope to get to them soon 🙂

Haha! I don’t know that I’ve made any progress overall since I can’t stop buying new books, but this was at least me getting rid of a few of the older ones in the pile.

Ooh, I’m glad you read these also! I’ve actually read five of these and loved them all! I’m happy to hear that you were able to successfully start getting your backlist under control–that is always a fantastic feeling. 🙂
