Can’t Wait Wednesday – Spotlight on WARRIOR OF THE WILD by Tricia Levenseller

“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted at Breaking the Spine, which encourages fellow bloggers to spotlight upcoming releases that we’re excited about.  It is a meme that I have  loved participating in for over a year now, but as Jill is no longer actively posting, from now on I’ll just be linking to Can’t Wait Wednesday, hosted by Tressa, which is a spinoff of the original WoW meme.

My selection for this week is WARRIOR OF THE WILD by Tricia Levenseller.  After reading and loving Adrienne Young’s Sky in the Deep, I’ve been on the hunt for more Viking inspired stories.  I was thrilled to come across this one, which just sounds fabulous!

My selection for this week is THE LANTERN’S EMBER by Colleen Houck.  I will freely admit that what first drew me to this book was that stunning cover, but it’s the synopsis that has me so excited for this book.  It just sounds like the perfect read for fall, especially right around Halloween!

Can’t Wait Wednesday – Spotlight on THE LONELIEST GIRL IN THE UNIVERSE by Lauren James

* * * * *

My selection for this week is THE LONELIEST GIRL IN THE UNIVERSE by Lauren James.   I have to admit that the cover of this book is what really drew me to it – that image of the girl sitting alone, surrounded by all of that darkness and looking out at the vastness of space.  As I started reading the synopsis, I got really excited when I saw that it’s actually a sci-fi thriller, which wasn’t at all what I was expecting based on the cover.  I especially want to know what J’s mission is and why it makes Romy suddenly think that there are worse things than being all alone in space.  It sounds so ominous…

My selection for this week is BLACK WINGS BEATING by Alex London.   The comment on the cover from Kendare Blake is actually what got me excited about this book.  Blake describes Black Wings Beating as having “Clever writing; boisterous, endearing characters; and threats coming from every direction.”  That definitely sounds like my kind of book!

My selection for this week is LETTING GO OF GRAVITY by Meg Leder.   This is one of those books that I was initially drawn to because of the gorgeous cover but then read the synopsis and knew I had to read the book.  I love sibling stories and this one just sounds like it has the potential to be very moving.

From Goodreads:

Twins Parker and Charlie are polar opposites.

Where Charlie is fearless, Parker is careful.

Charlie is confident while Parker aims to please.

Charlie is outgoing and outspoken; Parker is introverted and reserved.

And of course, there’s the one other major difference: Charlie got leukemia. Parker didn’t.

But now that Charlie is officially in remission, life couldn’t be going better for Parker. She’s landed a prestigious summer internship at the hospital and is headed to Harvard in the fall to study pediatric oncology—which is why the anxiety she’s felt since her Harvard acceptance is so unsettling. And it doesn’t help that her relationship with Charlie has been on the rocks since his diagnosis.

Enter Finn, a boy who’s been leaving strange graffiti messages all over town. Parker can’t stop thinking about those messages, or about Finn, who makes her feel free for the first time: free to doubt, free to make mistakes, and free to confront the truth that Parker has been hiding from for a long time.

That she keeps trying to save Charlie, when the person who really needs saving is herself.

It once seemed so easy to Prince Rhen, the heir to Emberfall. Cursed by a powerful enchantress to repeat the autumn of his eighteenth year over and over, he knew he could be saved if a girl fell for him. That was before he destroyed his castle, his family, and every last shred of hope.

Nothing has ever been easy for Harper Lacy. With her father long gone, her mother dying, and her brother barely holding their family together while constantly underestimating her because of her cerebral palsy, she learned to be tough enough to survive. My selection for this week is What If It’s Us by Becky Albertalli and Adam Silvera.   I actually just heard about this book for the first time yesterday and got so excited about it that I bumped the book I had originally planned to spotlight today.  It sounds like it’s going to be a super-cute read.  Plus, it’s set in New York, which is always a bonus for me, and Becky Albertalli is an auto-buy author for me.  I’ve actually not read a book from Adam Silvera but I have They All Die at the End on my Kindle so hopefully I’ll at least get that one read before this comes out since I always hear such wonderful things about his books.

From Goodreads:

Arthur is only in New York for the summer, but if Broadway has taught him anything, it’s that the universe can deliver a showstopping romance when you least expect it.

Ben thinks the universe needs to mind its business. If the universe had his back, he wouldn’t be on his way to the post office carrying a box of his ex-boyfriend’s things.

But when Arthur and Ben meet-cute at the post office, what exactly does the universe have in store for them?  Maybe nothing. After all, they get separated.  Maybe everything. After all, they get reunited.

But what if they can’t quite nail a first date . . . or a second first date . . . or a third?  What if Arthur tries too hard to make it work . . . and Ben doesn’t try hard enough?

What if life really isn’t like a Broadway play?  But what if it is…

Can’t Wait Wednesday – Spotlight on LITTLE BIG LOVE by Katy Regan

“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted at Breaking the Spine, which encourages fellow bloggers to spotlight upcoming releases that we’re excited about.  It is a meme that I have  loved participating in for over a year now, but as Jill is no longer actively posting, from now on I’ll just be linking to Can’t Wait Wednesday, hosted by Tressa, which is a spinoff of the original WoW meme.

* * * * *

My selection for this week is LIttle Big Love by Katy Regan and I have to admit that the main reason I’m excited about it is the comparison in the blurb to About a Boy and Parenthood, which are two of my favorites. Parenthood is one of those shows that gave me all the feels and that I could only watch with a box of tissues nearby because I knew I’d sob at some point during almost every episode.  I’m really hoping that this book packs a similar emotional punch and by the description, it sounds entirely possible.

LITTLE BIG LOVE by Katy Regan

Publication Date:   June 5, 2018

From Goodreads:

About a Boy meets Parenthood in this smart, big-hearted love story about a family for whom everything changed one night, a decade ago, and the young boy who unites them all.

Ten-year-old Zac Hutchinson collects facts: octopuses have three hearts, Usain Bolt is the fastest man on earth. But no one will tell him the one thing he wants to know most: who his father is and where he went.

When Zac’s mother, Juliet, inadvertently admits that his dad is the only man she’s ever loved, Zac decides he is going to find him and deliver his mom the happily ever after she deserves.

But Liam Jones left for a reason, and as Zac searches for clues of his father, Juliet begins to rebuild what shattered on the day that was at once the happiest and most heartbreaking of her life.

Told through the eyes of Zac, Juliet, and grandfather Mick, Little Big Love is a layered, heartfelt, utterly satisfying story about family, love, and the secrets that can define who we are.
