Top Ten Tuesday – 10 Books I Was SO EXCITED to Get, but Still Haven’t Read
Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together. Top Ten Tuesday has been one of my favorite memes ever since I started blogging, so huge thanks to Jana for taking over the hosting duties!
This week’s TTT topic is Books I Was SO EXCITED to Get, but Still Haven’t Read. In my head, I call this “The List of Shame.” Those books I just had to have, couldn’t wait to get my hands on them, and then proceed to let them sit on my shelf for months or even years before I finally get around to reading them. I did finally put a dent in the last list I made like this, but there are always more to share. The biggest trend I see is that I’ve neglected my fantasy reading for a while now. During the pandemic I have craved pretty much exclusively romance so all of those fantasy novels I was dying to read got pushed aside. I did finally read the entire Poppy Wars trilogy this year though so I’m hoping to start working my way through all of these series as well. I think the book that has the “honor” of sitting on my shelf unread the longest is Uprooted. I didn’t love Spinning Silver as much as I hoped to so I’ve kind of lost interest in Uprooted as a result. Honestly the only reason I haven’t just gotten rid of it is that the cover is so stunning, lol.
10 Books I Was SO EXCITED to Get, but Still Haven’t Read
1. EMPIRE OF THE VAMPIRE by Jay Kristoff
2. THE CITY OF BRASS by S.A. Chakraborty
3. THE LANGUAGE OF THORNS by Leigh Bardugo
5. AN ENCHANTMENT OF RAVENS by Margaret Rogerson
6. THE NEAR WITCH by V.E. Schwab
8. THE COUSINS by Karen McManus
9. WHEN WE LEFT CUBA by Chanel Cleeton
10. THE FRIEND ZONE by Abby Jimenez
* * * * * *
I haven’t read The Cousins yet either.

Hopefully we’ll both enjoy it when we finally get to it, lol.
You know, I think we have a physical copy of Uprooted from BEA (unread). It’s not my thing, but people seem to enjoy it. I LOVED The Friend Zone. That book started my love affair with Abby Jimenez. The Cuba books were really, really good, and I am always here for a McManus book.

I’m not even sure why or how I managed to skip over that one Cuba book. I’ve loved all of the rest of them.
I have a copy of Uprooted around here, too. Sigh.
Hopefully we’ll both get to it some day.
Oh yes, Empire of the Vampire would be on my list too. I’m determined to knock it out by the end of the year, though😁

I am too. We’ll see how it goes.
I’ve really fallen behind on Jane Harper’s books. When We Left Cuba was a fantastic read, I hope you love it!
Same on Harper. I have three of her books sitting on my shelf unread, lol.
I’m so curious about Uprooted.
Here is our Top Ten Tuesday.
I hear really good things about it.
Jane Harper is one of my favourite authors so I hope you enjoy The Dry! Uprooted and The Cousins were also great reads. The City of Brass made it onto my list today as well—I feel like I’ve had that one for ages now and I might even feel like picking it up now! I hope you enjoy all of these reads on the “list of shame” whenever you get to them 😉

I really liked The Cousins. I suspect it’s not most people’s favorite McManus book, or maybe I just didn’t see a lot of reviews, but something about it- the mystery, the island- I don’t know, but I hope you like it when you get to it. 🙂

I still do really want to read that one. I’ve enjoyed the rest of her books so much.
List of Shame sounds about tight! And I think we all have them. 🙂 Maybe sharing them will nudge us to read them? Maybe?

I hope so but kind of doubt it, haha!
List of shame sounds awful but I know I feel guilty for having bought and not read the books! I am slowly clearing off my shelves. I hope you enjoy these when you do get a chance to read them.

That’s great that you’re making progress on the books you own. I’m trying to do the same. If I’d stop buying more, I’d be in great shape, lol.
I liked The Cousins, but it wasn’t my favorite book of hers. Still very good, though. I LOVED When We Left Cuba. Seriously so good. Hurry up on that one. 😉 I want to read that Jimenez book as well.

Yeah, I don’t even know how I skipped over that Cuba book because I’ve loved all of her other ones. I actually just got the audiobook so I’m hoping that will entice me to pick it up soon.
I LOVED Uprooted in fact it is the first book I got on audio. I think the audio helped to make it a favorite. I want to read Dry and The Friend Zone but I do not have them.

Oh cool, thanks for the tip about the audio on Uprooted. I’ll have to see if my library has it.
City of Brass is on my list today, too. And I really want to read An Enchantment of Ravens, but I don’t have a copy yet. Uprooted was excellent; I also own Spinning Silver, but it made my list for today as well. I hope you get to read at least a few of these soon.

Glad to hear you enjoyed Uprooted. Someone recommended that I try the audiobook so I think I’m going to do that eventually.
Jane Harper is one of those authors that I always read right away. She doesn’t have too many books out, so I still get really excited when a new one is published!

I really need to prioritize her books. I always hear such good things about them.
I hope you enjoy these when you get the opportunity to read them.

I’ve also had The Near Witch on my shelf for quite a few years now but still haven’t read it (though it wasn’t on my list this week). Of the ones on your list, I’ve read The City of Brass, The Language of Thorns, Uprooted and An Enchantment of Ravens. I really loved The City of Brass and The Language of Thorns, but I wasn’t much impressed with either Uprooted or An Enchantment of Ravens. Hope you enjoy all of these, whenever you end up reading them.

I have had The Near Witch for a while as well LOL And The Cousins was real good 🙂
V.E. Schwab is one of my favorites so that one is especially embarrassing, lol.
I did enjoy Uprooted, but I haven’t read Spinning Silver, so I can’t help you by saying it’s similar or totally different. Hope you’ll enjoy it if you do decide to give it a try though! Empire of the Vampire is still on my TBR too, as well as every single Chanel Cleeton book – they’re also on my list of shame, haha 🙂
I really love Cleeton’s books. Still not sure how I’ve managed to skip over this one, lol.
I don’t own The Near Witch but it’s one I want to read. I do, however, own The Cousins and need to read that. I’m really trying to read more from my own shelves. I’ve had some books for years and years and years.

Of course I do! 🙂 And if I had to push one of these on you I’d choose City of Brass and Empire of the Vampire!

Empire of the Vampire is definitely high priority for me. I’m hoping to do the audio since the book sitting on my shelf is such an enormous brick, haha.
