Can’t Wait Wednesday – Spotlight on GIRL MADE OF STARS by Ashley Herring Blake
“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted at Breaking the Spine, which encourages fellow bloggers to spotlight upcoming releases that we’re excited about. It is a meme that I have loved participating in for over a year now, but as Jill is no longer actively posting, from now on I’ll just be linking to Can’t Wait Wednesday, hosted by Tressa, which is a spinoff of the original WoW meme.

My selection for this week is GIRL MADE OF STARS by Ashley Herring Blake. I absolutely loved Ashley’s last novel How to Make a Wish. I thought she did such a beautiful job creating relatable characters and exploring different kinds of relationships (friends, family, romantic, etc.). Her new book tackles some very difficult topics — consent, sexual assault, and victim blaming. As soon as I read the synopsis, Girl Made of Stars became a must-read for me. I have a feeling it’s going to be heart-wrenching at times, but it’s a timely story about subjects that we need to be having open dialogues about.
GIRL MADE OF STARS by Ashley Herring Blake
Publication Date: May 15, 2018
From Goodreads:
“I need Owen to explain this. Because yes, I do know that Owen would never do that, but I also know Hannah would never lie about something like that.”
Mara and Owen are about as close as twins can get. So when Mara’s friend Hannah accuses Owen of rape, Mara doesn’t know what to think. Can the brother she loves really be guilty of such a violent crime? Torn between the family she loves and her own sense of right and wrong, Mara is feeling lost, and it doesn’t help that things have been strained with her ex-girlfriend, Charlie.
As Mara, Hannah, and Charlie navigate this new terrain, Mara must face a trauma from her own past and decide where Charlie fits in her future. With sensitivity and openness, this timely novel confronts the difficult questions surrounding consent, victim blaming, and sexual assault.

The synopsis gave me chills, I can’t imagine the feels I will experience when I read this book. And can we just take a moment to look at that cover.
Same here! And yes, that cover is incredible!
Oh my Suzanne, this sounds like a powerful, if heartbreaking read. Definitely going on my TBR.

Doesn’t it?
That synopsis grabs you. Now I have to go look at her other book since you loved it.
Oh yes, that one was so good. I’ve heard Suffer Love is also great but I haven’t picked that one up yet.
Ugh, it’s sad that this is so timely, but it is. I can’t even imagine what Mara must go through in relation to her twin.
It really is sad.
This book does sound really heart-wrenching. But I bet it’s going to be an amazing read as well!
I hope it will be a great read.
Definitely and emotional roller coaster read and the cover is beautiful. Hope you enjoy this one!

I haven’t heard of this book–but I agree it seems to cover some highly necessary issues. I’ll have to check it out when it’s released. On a side note, I also nominated you for the Blogger Recognition Award over on my blog. You can find the post here. I’d love for you to participate, but no pressure!
Oh! Thanks so much for tagging me. I appreciate it 🙂
oooh, that one sounds really good! This is the first I’m hearing of it. Will have to add it to my TBR. You can check out my pick for this week in the link below!
Thanks, looking forward to seeing your pick for this week 🙂
Woah, this sounds like an intense one. It must be really tough to hear something so awful about your brother but know that the girl would never lie either.

Right? I feel like it’s just going to be so heart wrenching.
WHOA, this one sounds fantastic and I kind of need to get my hands on it. Now! Haha
Haha, I know, right? Me too!
Where can I get started. This books is great. So I kind of maybe already have the book because I won a giveaway with hmhteen. But it is absolutely heart wrenching and I think it has such an important message and now is one of my favorite books. I will definitely be reading her other books. But I think you will love this book. It was so powerful and the cover is amazing. I would just like to warn you these weird things might fall from your eyes. I think their called tears. Just don’t be alarmed when they. Just continue the wait because it will definitely be worth it. Now time for me to preorder the hardcover and her new middle grade book!
This is my account that I just started because I’m considering blogging I may post a review here.
Good to know. I can’t wait to read it. Good luck with your blog if you decide to do it 🙂
