Can’t Wait Wednesday – SISTERS OF SHADOW AND LIGHT by Sara B. Larson
“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted at Breaking the Spine, which encourages fellow bloggers to spotlight upcoming releases that we’re excited about. It is a meme that I have loved participating in for over a year now, but as Jill is no longer actively posting, from now on I’ll be linking to Can’t Wait Wednesday, hosted by Tressa at Wishful Endings, which is a spinoff of the original WoW meme.

My selection for this week is SISTERS OF SHADOW AND LIGHT by Sara B. Larson. I’m a sucker for a story about sisterly love and I also like that this book sounds like it may have a bit of a Strange the Dreamer vibe.
SISTERS OF SHADOW AND LIGHT by Sara B. Larson
Publication Date: November 5, 2019
From Goodreads:
From the acclaimed author of DEFY, Sara B. Larson, SISTERS OF SHADOW AND LIGHT is a timeless and fantastical tale of sisterly love and powerful magic
“The night my sister was born, the stars died and were reborn in her eyes…”.
Zuhra and Inara have grown up in the Citadel of the Paladins, an abandoned fortress where legendary, magical warriors once lived before disappearing from the world―including their Paladin father the night Inara was born.
On that same night, a massive, magical hedge grew and imprisoned them within the citadel. Inara inherited their father’s Paladin power; her eyes glow blue and she is able to make plants grow at unbelievable rates, but she has been trapped in her own mind because of a “roar” that drowns everything else out―leaving Zuhra virtually alone with their emotionally broken human mother.
For fifteen years they have lived, trapped in the citadel, with little contact from the outside world…until the day a stranger passes through the hedge, and everything changes.

Doesn’t it?
I love the focus on the sister’s relationship, instead of a romance, haha!
Right? So do I!
This sounds like it might having Sleeping Beauty influences, or maybe I’m mixing up my fairy tales. In any case, I love the sound of it😁
I was thinking that as well, especially with that hedge surrounding the place.
This one is completely new to me but it sounds great. Thanks for sharing!
You’re welcome!
It sounds really good and I am certainly curious about the stranger showing up. Great pick!
I’m curious about that too!
I can’t wait for Fire and Ash by CV Wyk but …no release date yet!!
Hopefully you won’t have to wait too long!
I’m intrigued after that synopsis. I want to know what happens when the stranger arrives! I hope you enjoy this one when you read it, Suzanne. I am adding it to my wish list. Have a great week!
Right? I’m curious about the stranger too.
Intriguing and interesting!
I think so too!
I am curious about this one. I was a fan of the Defy series, and sister books are usually good for me.
I’ve not tried the Defy series but I’m sure it will go on my list if I enjoy this one.
This sounds fascinating. Magic and sisters…who could ask for more 🙂 Thanks for sharing, Suzanne. I don’t have a wait list, I’m slogging through my TBR. I shouldn’t say slog because it does feel good to finally read some titles I’ve been wanting to for years. I’ll wait for your review of this one!
I really need to work on my TBR more. I just constantly get distracted by shiny new books, lol.
This sounds like it might be good… the whole Citadel of the Paladins thing, and them being trapped. Hmm…
I really hope it’s as good as it sounds.
I somehow missed this one! I really do like books about the connection between sisters.
I do too and I love that this is so focused on the sisters’ relationship.
Epic CWW, Suzanne! Magic and sisters? I think this could be soooo good!
I think so too!
OK. I have added this. I didn’t even know anything about this, but the premise reminds me (just a bit) of the Caraval series, which I know was polarizing, but I LOVED!
Thanks for putting this on my radar!
I hadn’t thought about Caraval but now that you say that, yes I can totally see it. Hopefully we’ll both love this one!
I have her Defy series, but haven’t kept track of her new releases. I’ll definitely be reading this one. Thanks for sharing!
You’re welcome!
