Ten Books I’ve Added to my To-Be-Read List Lately

November 8, 2016/16 Comments/by Suzanne

top ten tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday is a fun weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. This week’s topic is  Ten Books I’ve Added to my To-Be-Read List Lately.  This was a pretty easy topic for me since I’m quite literally adding new books to my TBR list pretty much every day.  The ten I have selected made it on to my TBR for a variety of reasons – some are based on blogger reviews I’ve read, others because I’ve received ARCs to review, and still others for random reasons like maybe a gorgeous cover caught my eye.

Ten Books I’ve Added to my To-Be-Read List Lately

1. Ever the Hunted by Erin Summerill

01

This one made it onto my list because I’ve read several great reviews from bloggers who have read ARCs.  It sounds amazing!

Goodreads Synopsis: Seventeen year-old Britta Flannery is at ease only in the woods with her dagger and bow. She spends her days tracking criminals alongside her father, the legendary bounty hunter for the King of Malam—that is, until her father is murdered. Now outcast and alone and having no rights to her father’s land or inheritance, she seeks refuge where she feels most safe: the Ever Woods. When Britta is caught poaching by the royal guard, instead of facing the noose she is offered a deal: her freedom in exchange for her father’s killer.

However, it’s not so simple.

The alleged killer is none other than Cohen McKay, her father’s former apprentice. The only friend she’s ever known. The boy she once loved who broke her heart. She must go on a dangerous quest in a world of warring kingdoms, mad kings, and dark magic to find the real killer. But Britta wields more power than she knows. And soon she will learn what has always made her different will make her a daunting and dangerous force.  (Read more…)

2. Dorothy Must Die by Danielle Paige

02

This one made it on to my list as part of my birthday haul (which I, note to self, really need to hurry up and do a post on since my birthday was last month).  I saw this on sale and gifted it to myself, mainly because I LOVE the cover.

Goodreads Synopsis:  I didn’t ask for any of this. I didn’t ask to be some kind of hero. But when your whole life gets swept up by a tornado – taking you with it – you have no choice but to go along, you know?

Sure, I’ve read the books. I’ve seen the movies. I know the song about the rainbow and the happy little bluebirds. But I never expected Oz to look like this. To be a place where Good Witches can’t be trusted, Wicked Witches may just be the good guys, and winged monkeys can be executed for acts of rebellion. There’s still a yellow brick road – but even that’s crumbling.

What happened? Dorothy.

They say she found a way to come back to Oz. They say she seized power and the power went to her head. And now no one is safe.

My name is Amy Gumm – and I’m the other girl from Kansas.

I’ve been recruited by the Revolutionary Order of the Wicked.  I’ve been trained to fight.

And I have a mission.   (Read more…)

3. Timekeeper by Tara Sim

03

Another addition to the list based on some great blogger reviews.

Goodreads Synopsis:  Two o’clock was missing.

In an alternate Victorian world controlled by clock towers, a damaged clock can fracture time—and a destroyed one can stop it completely.

It’s a truth that seventeen-year-old clock mechanic Danny Hart knows all too well; his father has been trapped in a Stopped town east of London for three years. Though Danny is a prodigy who can repair not only clockwork, but the very fabric of time, his fixation with staging a rescue is quickly becoming a concern to his superiors.

And so they assign him to Enfield, a town where the tower seems to be forever plagued with problems. Danny’s new apprentice both annoys and intrigues him, and though the boy is eager to work, he maintains a secretive distance. Danny soon discovers why: he is the tower’s clock spirit, a mythical being that oversees Enfield’s time. Though the boys are drawn together by their loneliness, Danny knows falling in love with a clock spirit is forbidden, and means risking everything he’s fought to achieve.

But when a series of bombings at nearby towers threaten to Stop more cities, Danny must race to prevent Enfield from becoming the next target or he’ll not only lose his father, but the boy he loves, forever.   (Read more…)

4. The Book of Lost Things by John Connolly

04

A friend from college was telling me about this book and it just sounded so good that I had to add it to my list.

Goodreads Synopsis:  High in his attic bedroom, twelve-year-old David mourns the death of his mother, with only the books on his shelf for company. But those books have begun to whisper to him in the darkness. Angry and alone, he takes refuge in his imagination and soon finds that reality and fantasy have begun to meld. While his family falls apart around him, David is violently propelled into a world that is a strange reflection of his own — populated by heroes and monsters and ruled by a faded king who keeps his secrets in a mysterious book, The Book of Lost Things.

Taking readers on a vivid journey through the loss of innocence into adulthood and beyond, New York Times bestselling author John Connolly tells a dark and compelling tale that reminds us of the enduring power of stories in our lives.   (Read more…)

5. Half of a Yellow Sun by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

05

The beautiful cover is what caught my eye on this book, but I have been meaning to read more of Adichie’s books anyway because Americanah was so good.  I also added We Should All Be Feminists and Purple Hibiscus.

Goodreads Synopsis:  With effortless grace, celebrated author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie illuminates a seminal moment in modern African history: Biafra’s impassioned struggle to establish an independent republic in southeastern Nigeria during the late 1960s. We experience this tumultuous decade alongside five unforgettable characters: Ugwu, a thirteen-year-old houseboy who works for Odenigbo, a university professor full of revolutionary zeal; Olanna, the professor’s beautiful young mistress who has abandoned her life in Lagos for a dusty town and her lover’s charm; and Richard, a shy young Englishman infatuated with Olanna’s willful twin sister Kainene. Half of a Yellow Sun is a tremendously evocative novel of the promise, hope, and disappointment of the Biafran war. (Read more…)

6. The Portable Dorothy Parker by Dorothy Parker

06

Don’t laugh but I added this one to my list after my last Gilmore Girls rewatch. 🙂

Goodsreads Synopsis:  This sublime collection ranges over the verse, stories, essays, and journalism of one of the twentieth century’s most quotable authors. (Read more…)

7. Iceling by Sasha Stephenson

08

This book is on my list because I recently received an e-ARC from the First to Read program.

Goodreads Synopsis:  Lorna’s adopted sister, Callie, is part of a mysterious group of non-lingual teens, Icelings, born on a remote Arctic island, who may not be entirely human. Now Callie wants to go home.

Seventeen-year-old Lorna loves her adoptive sister, Callie. But Callie can’t say “I love you” back. In fact, Callie can’t say anything at all.

Because Callie is an Iceling—one of hundreds of teens who were discovered sixteen years ago on a remote Arctic island, all of them lacking the ability to speak or understand any known human language.

Mysterious and panicked events lead to the two sisters embarking on a journey to the north, and now Lorna starts to see that there’s a lot more to Callie’s origin story than she’d been led to believe. Little does she know what’s in store, and that she’s about to uncover the terrifying secret about who—and what—Callie really is.  (Read more…)

8. The Most Dangerous Place on Earth by Lindsey Lee Johnson

07

I recently received an e-ARC from Netgalley and this one also piqued my interest because of the praise from Anthony Doerr.

Goodreads Synopsis:  A captivating debut novel for readers of Celeste Ng’s Everything I Never Told You and Curtis Sittenfeld’s Prep, The Most Dangerous Place on Earth unleashes an unforgettable cast of characters into a realm known for its cruelty and peril: the American high school.

In an idyllic community of wealthy California families, new teacher Molly Nicoll becomes intrigued by the hidden lives of her privileged students. Unknown to Molly, a middle school tragedy in which they were all complicit continues to reverberate for her kids: Nick, the brilliant scam artist; Emma, the gifted dancer and party girl; Dave, the B student who strives to meet his parents expectations; Calista, the hippie outcast who hides her intelligence for reasons of her own. Theirs is a world in which every action may become public postable, shareable, indelible. With the rare talent that transforms teenage dramas into compelling and urgent fiction, Lindsey Lee Johnson makes vivid a modern adolescence lived in the gleam of the virtual, but rich with the sorrow, passion, and beauty of life in any time, and at any age.  (Read more…)

9. A Piece of the World by Christina Baker Kline

09

I loved Orphan Train so when I saw Baker Kline had a new book coming out, it had to go on the list.

Goodreads Synopsis:  From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of the smash bestseller Orphan Train, a stunning and atmospheric novel of friendship, passion, and art, inspired by Andrew Wyeth’s mysterious and iconic painting Christina’s World.

“Later he told me that he’d been afraid to show me the painting. He thought I wouldn’t like the way he portrayed me: dragging myself across the field, fingers clutching dirt, my legs twisted behind. The arid moonscape of wheatgrass and timothy. That dilapidated house in the distance, looming up like a secret that won’t stay hidden.”

To Christina Olson, the entire world was her family’s remote farm in the small coastal town of Cushing, Maine. Born in the home her family had lived in for generations, and increasingly incapacitated by illness, Christina seemed destined for a small life. Instead, for more than twenty years, she was host and inspiration for the artist Andrew Wyeth, and became the subject of one of the best known American paintings of the twentieth century.

As she did in her beloved smash bestseller Orphan Train, Christina Baker Kline interweaves fact and fiction in a powerful novel that illuminates a little-known part of America’s history. Bringing into focus the flesh-and-blood woman behind the portrait, she vividly imagines the life of a woman with a complicated relationship to her family and her past, and a special bond with one of our greatest modern artists.

Told in evocative and lucid prose, A Piece of the World is a story about the burdens and blessings of family history, and how artist and muse can come together to forge a new and timeless legacy.  (Read more…)

10. A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness

10

That creepy cover is what got this book onto my list.

Goodreads Synopsis:  The monster showed up after midnight. As they do.

But it isn’t the monster Conor’s been expecting. He’s been expecting the one from his nightmare, the one he’s had nearly every night since his mother started her treatments, the one with the darkness and the wind and the screaming…

This monster is something different, though. Something ancient, something wild. And it wants the most dangerous thing of all from Conor.  It wants the truth. (Read more…)

🤠 Review - TRIGGER HAPPY 🤠

Author - Meredith Trapp

Pub Date - 10/20/2026

Okay, I’m not going to lie - I came so close to DNFing this book almost as soon as I started it. I hadn’t read the synopsis and was just going off the cover, which was giving cute cowboy romance vibes. When I started reading and it became clear the book was about rival contract k!llers and started with the clean up of some pretty gnarly crime scenes, I was hesitant to continue because I didn’t think it would be my thing. That said, if you’re like me when you start it, keep going because this book is so much fun!

The story follows Sabrina, who is a Manhattan socialte, and Lawton, a wild cowboy. Both have been trained in their respective family businesses, which just happen to be rival murder-for-hire businesses. There’s bad blood between the families, so it’s very awkward when both Sabrina and Lawton get hired for the same job in Wyoming and have to pretend to be a happily married couple.

I loved the undercover element and how it allowed these two to get to know one another in a new way. They were clearly attracted to one another, so it was fun to watch them try and fail to fight their new feelings for one another.

This was such a great time and had so many laugh out loud moments!

I did an immersive read and thought the audiobook was especially hilarious. The narrators, Kelsey Navarro Foster and Jesus E. Martinez, did such a great job bringing these characters to life and capturing the overall lighthearted tone of the story.

Perfect for fans of:

Feuding Families

✨ Review - UNDONE ✨

Author - Peyton Corinne

Pub Date - 10/20/2026

I’m so sad to see the Undone series end, but what an incredible ride it has been! Every book has been so beautiful and has packed an emotional punch, but I think this final one hit me the hardest. Lily and Toren have both been through so much and my heart just broke for them over and over again. At the same time, I was rooting so hard for them to find the love and happiness together that they both deserved.

Toren especially had my heart because he’s so misunderstood. I hated how he was so beaten down and felt so unworthy of love. I actually had tears in my eyes when Coach Harris and his wife were so kind to Toren just because Toren couldn’t believe that someone could actually care about him.

My heart hurt for Lily as well. She’s a talented artist but is told time and again by her father that art is not a career, and he forces her down an academic path that she doesn’t want and isn’t suited for. Between the emotional abuse and the being set up for academic failure, Lily begins to struggle with her mental health.

I love a second chance romance, but this one almost broke me to hear what drove them apart in the first place. It made me all the more glad they found their way back to one another.

I did this as an immersive read and thought the audiobook narration was incredible. Andre Bellido and Caitlin Elizabeth perfectly capture the angst, the yearning, and the deep emotional connection between Lily and Toren.

The writing is beautiful and the emotion runs deep. Highly recommend this one!

📚 MESSY MONDAY - 26 in 2026 CHALLENGE UPDATE 📚 He 📚 MESSY MONDAY - 26 in 2026 CHALLENGE UPDATE 📚

Hey book friends! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend and that your Monday is off to a good start.

I spent part of my weekend doing some bookstagram housekeeping, which meant getting caught up on my 26 in 2026 challenge reviews.

I’ve been doing amazing on the challenge itself and only have 3 books left but was way behind on reviewing those books. I’ve never done a YES, NO, MAYBE style review before so I decided to go that route in my caption.

If you swipe through my slides though, there’s also a mini review for each book.

BOOKS READ:

Blood Over Bright Haven by M.L. Wang - YES

James by Percival Everett - YES/MAYBE (read The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn first).

The Housemaid’s Secret by Freida McFadden - MAYBE

The Serpent and the Wings of Night by Carissa Broadbent - YES

Crimson River by Devney Perry - YES

An Echo in the Bone by Diana Gabaldon - YES

Kill for Me, Kill for You by Steve Cavanagh - YES

Phantasma by Kaylie Smith - YES/MAYBE (depending on if you’re okay with gore).

❓QOTD - If you’re doing any reading challenges this year, how are you doing with them? Have you met your reading goal for the year yet? Have you read any of these books?

Review: James is a beautifully written reimagining of The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. It’s told from the perspective of Jim, a runaway slave, and is a much darker tale but the harrowing parts are well balance with other more humorous moments. I appreciated that it fleshes out Jim’s character and gives him so much more depth than the original. He comes across as wise and brave here, almost philosophical. I definitely recommending reading Huck Finn first and then reading this one to fully appreciate the different perspective

Review: Crimson River is the fifth book in The Edens series. It definitely works as a standalone but I recommend reading at least some of the earlier books first to meet the other Edens. Loved the heartfelt romance between Lyla and Vance, getting to learn more about the family, and I also loved the mystery and suspense elements, which made this such an addicting read.

Review: I’m still fully invested in Jamie and Claire and eve

Review - MISTLETOE ALL THE WAY

Author - Lauren Blakely

Pub Date - 10/6/2026

I still have several spooky season reads to get to, but I couldn’t resisting diving into Mistletoe All the Way, the new spicy holiday romance from Lauren Blakely. It’s a grumpy-sunshine, small town romance that is full of holiday cheer, and it was such a fun way to kick off my holiday romance reading.

Noah is a grumpy veterinarian who is not a fan of Christmas. He’s basically a sexy, broody Grinch who is trying to prove to his grandfather that he is the best person to take over the family horse farm now that his grandfather is retiring.

Eloise is a ray of sunshine - a little sweet, a little sassy, and passionate about making her PR business a success by securing work from the town mayor. She thinks she can achieve this by helping Noah win the town’s holiday competition and be crowned Mr. Holiday. Even though he can’t stand Christmas, Noah wants to take part in the contest to prove to his grandfather that he’s invested in the community. Eloise thinks she can change his mind when it comes to Christmas.

This was such a fun read! Eloise and Noah have great chemistry and I loved their opposites-attract dynamic and the hilarious banter between them. The Mr. Holiday competition was so entertaining and had me laughing out loud on several occasions. Poor Noah! 🤣

I was also invested in Noah & Eloise teaming up to save the horse farm from Noah’s scheming, shady cousin. The two of them make a great team, in every way.

I paired the e-arc with the audiobook & recommend this route. There’s a full cast narration lead by Erin Mallon and Teddy Hamilton, and they do a wonderful job capturing the fun and festive nature of the story, as well as the attraction between Eloise and Noah.

If you’re looking for a fun Christmas romance to add to your holiday TBR, you can’t go wrong with thiis book!

❄️ Review - HOME FOR THE HOMICIDES ❄️

Author - Elle Cosimano and Hannah Morrissey

Pub Date - 10/13/2026

I didn’t think I was read to start reading holiday books until I dove into Home for the Homicides. It’s a hilarious holiday-themed murder mystery that kept me chuckling to myself from start to finish, and that also features a healthy dose of spicy romance between the two rival detectives who are assigned to investigate the murder.

I had such a fun time with this clever story! It’s set in the town of Christmas, a cozy, charming town that looks straight out of a Hallmark holiday movie, right down to the all of the characters having holiday-themed names, including rival detectives Holly Frost and Mark Shepherd, although they might be better known by the unfortunate nicknames they’ve recently earned, Betty Crocker and Pole Licker, respectively.

Holly and Mark have been sent to Christmas not only to solve this murder, but also to hopefully redeem themselves. As they are forced to work together, we are treated to major unresolved sexual tension between them, so much yearning, and endless witty banter.

I’d consider this a cozy mystery. The murder victim came to town looking for love and ends up murdered with an icicle. While there are plenty of twists and turns to keep the reader guessing and interested, the stakes are still fairly low and the humor abounds.

I loved the balance between mystery and romance, and one of the other highlights for me was the narrator who a running, funny & sarcastic commentary. I also loved that the story takes place over 12 days, which immediately made me think of the 12 Days of Christmas.

The audiobook features a multi-cast narration with Angela Dawe, who does a brilliant job creating distinctive voices for all of the characters, as well as Colin Donnell, & Patti Murin. They were all so entertaining!

If you’re don’t think you’re ready for Christmas in October, this book will change your mind!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

🪦 Review - LOVE YOU TO DEATH 🪦

Author - Jenna Levine

Pub Date - 10/13/2026

I think I’m becoming obsessed with grim reaper romances! I’m a huge fan of Jenna Levine’s paranormal romances and she has really outdone herself with her latest, Love You to Death. It features Daniel, a jaded grim reaper who falls hard for Lucy, a recently deceased woman whose soul he has been sent to collect.

In spite of him being a reaper, I found Daniel to be very relatable. I think we’ve all probably experienced some job that we’ve done for so long that we just don’t want to do it anymore and with his being death over and over again, it’s easy to see why he is so jaded.

My heart broke for Lucy as soon as I realized Daniel had come for her. Her night was already such a mess and all she wants to do is go be with her sister and help her plan her wedding, and instead she gets hit by a bus. Talk about bad luck! I admired her pluck and determination to bargain with the reapers for more time so she can be there for her sister’s wedding, and I loved that she made such an impression on Daniel that he’s willing to break the rules and help her strike a deal with his bosses, a deal that leads to him having to closely monitor her for the extra time she has been granted.

I loved the connection that forms between Lucy and Daniel and especially that being around Lucy reminds Daniel of what it was like to be human. Lucy’s second chance at life is a second chance for him as well, and it was so great to watch him help her live what time she has left to the fullest.

I also loved that this was both a fun and swoony, slow burn romance and a very moving story about second chances and about being good enough just as you are. It made me laugh but it also just gave me such a full heart.

Highly recommend this book for fans of:

Paranormal romance
Grumpy Sunshine
Forced Proximity
Forbidden Romance
Balance of fun banter and poignant moments
Spicy Romance

🧹 Review - MEET CUTE MAGIC 🧹

Author - Morgan Elizabeth

Pub Date - 9/8/2026

Meet Cute Magic is the first book in the Heartwood Hollow series and it is just as cute and cozy as the name makes it sound!

Rosie is such an easy character to love and to root for. She runs a bookstore in Heartwood Hollow, and she and her sisters are witches. They also happen to be under a curse that doesn’t allow them to find love. Rosie isn’t having it though because she wants to her her one true love, so she decides she’s going to figure out how to break the curse.

I admired Rosie’s strength and determination as she sets out to conjure up the ghost who cursed them and make him tell her how to break it. Once she has her answer, she teams up with her neighbor Jack, who actually cannot stand her because she’s too bubbly and over the top for him, to go on a magical quest to round up all of the ingredients she needs. Why does Jack agree to help? Because the ghost who cursed Rosie is Jack’s grandfather!

I had such a good time following Rosie and Jack on this quest through the paranormal community. The banter between these two was hilarious and even though they’ve clearly been annoying each other for years, there’s also some major chemistry there. When they have to pretend to be a couple to get into a paranormal club to retrieve an ingredient, I just knew we were well on our way to finding out how Rosie and Jack really feel about one another, and I was so here for it!

Rosie and Jack are such endearing characters and they aren’t the only ones either. I loved Rosie’s sisters, Percy the cat, and Phillip the ghost, all of whom are quite meddlesome in the best way.

If you’re in the mood for a cozy fantasy with a dash of spice this spooky season, Meet Cute Magic is the book for you.

The audiobook was narrated by Lilly Drake and Michael Gallagher, who do a wonderful job of capturing the story’s lighthearted tone, as well as the chemistry and the pining between Rosie and Jack. They were a delight to listen to!

👻 Review - ENTITIES TO LOVERS 👻

Author - Mallory Marlowe

Pub Date - 10/13/2026

Mallory Marlowe is one of my favorite authors for paranormal romances and her latest, Entities to Lovers, is a must-read for spooky season! Not only is it spooky and atmospheric, but it’s also cozy and filled with New England fall vibes.

Rory and Ezra work as ghost tour guides at Ye Olde Spirit Shop in Boston. Sparks fly whenever they are together and they claim to loathe one another. It’s pretty obvious that’s not the case though because they’re always secretly checking each other out.

Things change, however, when they are forced to give a tour together and while bickering, break something in a haunted house, and end up cursed. Rory is a medium who can communicate with ghosts and when she hears “I’ll show you!”, she knows they messed up.

Their curse might be the most fun curse and the most creative use of forced proximity I’ve ever read about. Whenever they are apart, terrible things happen to each of them, but as soon as they are together again, they are surrounded by good fortune. That is, unless they start bickering again, them all hell breaks loose. It was such a good time following Ezra and Rory as they try to figure out what the ghost is trying to show them so they can finally break the curse.

The romance was everything and I was obsessed with Rory and Ezra as a couple, especially when they start giving more tours together. When they let their guard down around one another, they are an amazing team and clearly perfect for one another.

I honestly loved everything about this book, but a real standout was the tours themselves. I thought it was so fun that Ezra and Rory dress up like ghosts in period costumes and give the tour as if they are spirits.

Other standouts were the ghostly secondary characters, including a haunted porcelain doll named Clementine who gives gifts to people she likes, and then Luna, a spirit in Rory’s apartment who likes to tidy and organize, & help Rory pick out her outfits.

Spooky season romance perfection!

Author - Laura Langa

Pub Date - 10/9/2026

Thanks to @lauralangawrites for the gifted review copy!

Pardon the baseball pun, but Laura Langa has knocked it out of the park with Love Beyond the Diamond, the latest installment in her Waves Baseball series. I’ve enjoyed every book in the series so far, but I think this one is my favorite.

Shane is the gruff, tattooed right fielder for the Waves baseball team, and Willow is the chaotic artist who brings out the side of Shane that no one else sees. I was captivated by them from the moment they meet and Shane scoops Willow up and rushes her to the hospital because he notices something is off with her. Even under those tense circumstances, it was obvious they had incredible chemistry and I found myself fully invested in seeing how their relationship developed.

I was practically swooning by the time they end up in a marriage of convenience to help each other out, and I loved how supportive they were of each other. Shane helps Willow learn how to handle her new diabetes diagnosis while the marriage gives her health insurance she wouldn’t otherwise have, and Willows helps Shane learn how to just live and have fun by exposing him to childhood experiences he has never done before. I always love the way Langa writes relationships in her books and this one is definitely a new favorite. The tender moments, the passionate kisses, the longing, it’s all just chef’s kiss!

While the relationship is really sweet, there are also plenty of laughs in Love Beyond the Diamond, especially in the team group chat. If you like found family vibes, you’re going to love the Waves baseball players.

✨ Review - MAKE ME HATE YOU ✨

Author - Kandi Steiner

Pub Date - 10/7/26

How good is this book? Well, I received this package in the mail on Saturday and devoured the entire book on Sunday!

There’s just something that always gets me about romances that have their roots in childhood first loves. I just love getting glimpses into the couple’s history together and learning what happened to drive them apart when there are clearly still major feelings between them. In this story, Jasmine is returning to her hometown after being away for seven years. She has returned to be maid of honor in her best friend’s wedding but is dreading seeing Tyler, her best friend’s brother and the guy who broke her heart.

It’s obvious as soon as Jasmine comes face to face with Tyler that she isn’t over him, and it’s equally obvious that Tyler is feeling something for her as well. Being forced to work together as they help get ready for the wedding brings so many feelings to the surface for both of them. Old wounds are reopened, there’s plenty of resentment and confusion to go around, but above all of that, there is mutual attraction and major chemistry now that they are both adults. It’s an emotional journey as they have to confront their past history in order to a way to move forward, and I loved them together so I was rooting hard for them to find that connection again and to rebuild trust. I also loved that the story is told in dual POV so that I could get both of their inner thoughts along the way.

I thought the writing was beautiful, the character development fantastic, and the story itself completely binge-able.

If you love a second chance romance that has all of the angsty vibes, you’re definitely going to want to check out Make Me Hate You!

🧛🏻‍♂️ Reviews - BOUND and UNBOUND 🧛🏻‍♂️

Author - Ali Hazelwood

Pub Date - 10/06/26 (for paperback with both novellas)

Even though I’m not normally a big novella reader, I’m always going to read everything Ali Hazelwood writes and I’m so glad I read these paranormal novellas because they were such a good time and perfect for spooky season!

✨BOUND is a grumpy-sunshine romance with paranormal elements. It follows Veronica, a grad student/con artist who creates art forgeries to pay for her classes and Viktor Ashworth, a grumpy professor who catches her but instead of turning her in, recruits her to work on a special project with him.

I loved the dynamic between these two characters as they worked so closely together. Veronica is bold and outgoing, while Ashworth is stoic and a bit gruff. There’s fun banter, sarcasm, paranormal elements, undeniable chemistry, and a slow burn romance with plenty of yearning.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

✨UNBOUND follows Lilit, a 5,000 year old revenant, who develops feelings for Roman, an ER doctor and of course, a mortal. This goes against the revenent code because she’s meant to protect humans and to avoid relationships. Their mutual attraction is undeniable, even though they try hard to hide their feelings for one another. When someone starts hunting Lilit and Roman gets caught in the crossfire, everything changes. I really enjoyed the mix of action, banter, humor, and the paranormal vibes.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

My only quibble with both Bound and Unbound was that I wanted more, which is pretty much always the way I feel when I read a novella. It’s totally a me thing. 😅

🤠 Review - NEVER BEEN TAMED 🤠

Author - Corinne Michaels

Pub Date - 10/6/2026

Never Been Tamed is the second book in the Heartstone Ranch series, a series that I am obsessed with!

This installment follows Ares and Harper. Ares is a cardiologist who has come to Infinity Ridge after a patient death leads to him taking a forced sabbatical from his job in Chicago. He’s in Infinity Ridge to see his grandmother, try to revive his deceased grandpa’s local medical practice, and to just get his head on straight. Harper has lived in Infinity Ridge all her life and is currently the primary caretaker for her dad, Clyde.

I fell hard for Ares from the first moment he comes to town, when Clyde accidentally hits Ares’ car. Ares can sense right away by Clyde’s demeanor that he probably shouldn’t be driving, so he goes along with Clyde’s story and lets him off the hook. I just found that so endearing.

I found Harper equally endearing because she always wants to make those around her happy, although I did kind of want to shake her at times for never putting herself first. Especially when refusing to say no gets her stuck being a bridesmaid in her ex-boyfriend and ex-best friend’s wedding, who are now together because they cheated behind Harper’s back.

Ares and Harper have a fun meet cute at the bar, which leads a fake dating situation. Ares needs the townspeople to like him and come to his medical practice, which they are currently avoiding because he’s an outsider. Dating Harper, the town sweetheart, could really help with that, and Harper could use a hot boyfriend to get the town to stop pitying her and to make the wedding less awkward for her.

I had such a great time following Ares and Harper as they fail to fight their feelings for one another, and watching Clyde meddle. He pretends not to like Ares, but he really sees what a great guy he would be for Harper.

I thought this story had the perfect balance of humor, emotion and spice & I loved every page of it!
