Top Ten Tuesday – 10 Not So Scary Movies & TV Shows I Love to Watch during Spooky Season
Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together. Top Ten Tuesday has been one of my favorite memes ever since I started blogging, so huge thanks to Jana for taking over the hosting duties!
This week’s TTT topic is a Halloween Freebie, so since I’ve already shared some spooky season books in a previous TTT post this year, I decided it would be fun to share some of my favorite things to watch during spooky season. Now I’m a big chicken, so please keep that in mind as you peruse my list. You won’t find any Freddy Kreugers or chainsaw-wielding Jasons on there! My Halloween tastes lean toward the fun, silly, fantastical, and only slightly spooky variety. Who knows if the clips will actually play or not by the time this post goes live, but I’ve tried to share the official trailers for each of these in case, by some chance, you haven’t seen them before.

I love to watch not-so-spooky Halloween movies (I’m too easily scared for horror). Hocus Pocus is a go to, and I really enjoyed the sequel as well!
Hocus Pocus is my main go-to. 🙂
I’m with you on not reading/watching any overly spooky things. I love The Nightmare Before Christmas and The Addams Family! I remember watching Beetlejuice as a kid and being totally freaked out though—not sure I’ve watched it again ever since 😂
Haha!
I love spooky films that are just vibes without being too horrifying so naturally I watch Hocus Pocus every Halloween 😀
My Halloween-themed TTT
Same! Hocus Pocus is my main go-to every year. 🙂
What a great list! I’ve seen all of these, and I never get tired of watching Practical Magic😁
Same here!
Yes to Ghostbusters – I will watch that any time of year! Tom and I like to watch Goosebumps (the movie with Jack Black that came out a few years ago) – it’s so much fun, especially for readers of the Goosebumps books!
I forgot about Goosebumps! That is a fun one. 🙂
Now this is my kind of scary!
Glad I’m not the only one. 🙂
I love your Halloween movie choices! Charlie Brown is such a classic, and I never get tired of watching Ghostbusters or Practical Magic. 😀
Thanks! 🙂
“You won’t find any Freddy Kreugers or chainsaw-wielding Jasons on there” LOL! I would have been very shocked if you listed scary movies 😀 I love this list, great movies. I have not watched Hocus Pocus 2 yet.
Right? CSI is about as scary as I get, haha.
I’ve never seen Hocus Pocus. Someday I should!
My post: https://lydiaschoch.com/top-ten-tuesday-halloween-things-ive-never-done/
It’s such a fun movie. 🙂
Love your list! So many memories from these movies, too. Convinced my (now) 22-year-old daughter to watch Beetlejuice for the first time a couple years ago and it’s now one of her favorites.
Here is our Top Ten Tuesday.
Beetlejuice is such a fun film! Glad to hear she enjoyed it. 🙂
This is my kind of list for sure! Hocus Pocus is one of my all-time faves and I’m saving the sequel to watch on Halloween night 🙂
Hocus Pocus is one of my favorites too. I watch it every year. 🙂
Ah the great Pumpkin. Such a classic.
Right? It never gets old.
Hocus Pocus, Beetlejuice, The Nightmare Before Christmas, and Great Pumpkin are on my list as well. Practical Magic is a great movie. And I totally forgot about The Addams Family.
Right? I never get tired of Practical Magic.
I think “not so scary” is my moto Susan! :-))))
Mine too, haha!
I am probably one of the only people who has never seen Hocus Pocus, but I have seen all the rest (quite a while ago though). I think all Charlie Brown shows are a must at some point in ones life.
Hocus Pocus is such a fun one. We watch it every year. 🙂
I don’t have scary/spooky movies to stream each year. Our kids were always scared and now I don’t like scary stuff so we haven’t watched anything related to Halloween. Have a great week.
You too. Thanks for stopping by. 🙂
Ghostbusters is good to watch any time of year! Have you seen Ghostbusters Afterlife? It was a fun watch!

I still need to watch that one!
I wasn’t sure about a Hocus Pocus 2, but honestly, the trailer won me over <3
It’s pretty good. The first one is still my favorite but I’d watch the second one again. 🙂
Same! I like spooky, but not scary. You have some great ones on this list. I love classics like Ghostbusters, Practical Magic, Charlie Brown, etc. I’ve actually never watched Hocus Pocus, believe it or not.
Happy TTT!

Hocus Pocus is such a fun one. More silly than scary honestly, lol.
Love Charlie Brown! And Hocus Pocus!
Excellent list.
Thanks! 🙂
I tend to go with Harry Potter more for Christmas than Halloween, I think because it’s always on TV in the UK at Christmas, so I’ve always related it to that more!
We watch HP at Christmas too. I think there’s usually a Harry Potter marathon on one of the channels here during the holidays.
I don’t do the scary/slasher movies either. Nope! I’ve never seen Hocus Pocus or The Nightmare Before Christmas (they just never appealed to me) but I think I’ve seen all the rest. ET is such a classic. And the HP movies are always fun to watch.
ET really is a great one. I loved sitting down with my son to see his reaction the first time he watched it. 🙂
Lots of good choices! And one of the best times of the year for all things Harry Potter.
Right? Halloween and Christmas!
What a great list. I have already watched both Hocus Pocus movies and Nightmare Before Christmas. I will have to see if I can find Beetlejuice. I haven’t seen it in years.
Beetlejuice is such a fun one. I just love Catherine O’Hara.
The Nightmare Before Christmas is one of my all-time favorites. I watch it even when it’s not a holiday. 🙂
Same here!
