Top Ten Tuesday – 10 Books I Initially Wanted to Read Because of Cover Love
Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together. Top Ten Tuesday has been one of my favorite memes ever since I started blogging, so huge thanks to Jana for taking over the hosting duties!
This week’s TTT topic is actually supposed to be Titles or Covers That Made Me Want to Read/Buy the Book. I decided to focus on covers, mainly because I’m a sucker for a cool cover and because they are usually what first catches my attention and makes me interested in learning more about a book. As you can see from my selection, I’m very drawn to flowers, rich and vibrant colors, and to black and white covers with pops of red.
10 Books I Wanted to Read Initially Because of Cover Love
1. CHILDREN OF BLOOD AND BONE by Tomi Adeyemi
2. THE HOUSE IN THE CERULEAN SEA by T.J. Klune
3. EMPIRE OF THE VAMPIRE by Jay Kristoff (This book hasn’t come out yet but I preordered as soon as I saw the cover.)
4. THE LOST APOTHECARY by Sarah Penner
6. RED WINTER by Annette Marie
7. GODS OF JADE AND SHADOW by Silvia Moreno-Garcia
8. A SHADOW BRIGHT AND BURNING by Jessica Cluess
9. THE TEN THOUSAND DOORS OF JANUARY by Alix E. Harrow
10. THE ONCE AND FUTURE WITCHES by Alix E. Harrow

Children of Blood and Bone has such an amazing cover.
Doesn’t it? The second book in the series is equally stunning.
I haven’t read any of these, but my goodness, they all look fabulous. I’ve picked up books for the cover in the past, but now I almost always focus on the title and the blurb. Hope you’re doing well and sending hugs, RO
Thanks for stopping by, RO!
I’m drawn to flowery covers too, especially ones like The Once and Future Witches, it’s so intricate😁
Right? That’s one of my favorites. I really want to get hard copies of all her books for my collection because they’re so pretty.
The Klune book was one that grabbed my attention when I first saw it. I was surprised to learn it was an adult SFF book.
Me too. It’s so whimsical that I immediately thought it was a children’s book.
I am often drawn to covers! I really liked Nevernight – I need to actually read the rest.
It’s a good series. I enjoyed it more and more with each book.
Gorgeous cover choices. The House in the Cerulean Sea is my favorite. 🙂
Thanks!
I’m curious how these worked out for you. Did you love all of the stories as much as you loved the covers?
Most of them, yes. A Shadow Bright and Burning, not so much.
The only one I’ve read is Children of Blood and Bone which was fantastic on audio. I enjoy Annette Marie and I own both of the Alix Harrow books so I’ll get to them at some point. It’s a great list. I’d like to read all of them.
I just re-read Children of Blood and Bone on audio and enjoyed it even more than when I first read the e-book.
The House in the Cerulean Sea has such a stunning cover! And the cover for Red Winter is what drew me in at first too 🙂
It’s so stunning!
SOOOOO many great covers here, all of them have such great typography and look so nice together! I read and loved Nevernight!
That’s such a great series. 🙂
The Lost Apothecary and The Ten Thousand Doors of January were books that came to mind for me. Great covers!
Thanks! 🙂
These are all such striking covers! My TTT
Thanks!
I was definitely drawn to the covers of Children of Blood and Bone and A Shadow Bright and Burning as well (though I have yet to read the latter).
I actually never finished that series. The cover unfortunately was the best part for me, lol.
The Lost Apothecary is a FABULOUS cover.
It’s so pretty!
What a great list of books. All of those covers are stunning! I was drawn to The Lost Apothocary because of the cover; it’s gorgeous! Sadly, it didn’t hold my attention once I got about halfway through. I loved Once and Future Witches!
When you get the chance, I hope you come over and check out my post: http://readbakecreate.com/15-book-covers-that-scream-summer/
I’ve seen a lot of mixed reviews for The Lost Apothecary. I actually haven’t gotten around to reading it yet since those put me off a bit. Hopefully soon though.
Gods of Jade and Shadow is on my TBR because of the cover too, though it didn’t make my list this time. Awesome choices!
My TTT.
That’s one I still need to read. I fell in love with the cover but keep pushing it aside in favor of other books.
Great list! I’ve only read Nevernight but it was definitely the cover that drew me in.
That series consistently has the greatest covers.
Oh I agree, the Children of Blood and Bone’s cove rgot my attention the first moment I saw it~ ! These are sll stunning actually, but Red Winter makes me want to know more about it.
That’s exactly the way I felt when I first saw it.
These are some seriously gorgeous covers. I haven’t read any of these but I’ve always been drawn to The Ten Thousand Doors of January – just because of that cover. 🙂
It’s such a lovely one.
There are so many books on my shelves because I bought them because of the cover, lol. I’m also a sucker for a good cover!
I am too, lol!
I’ve listened to children of blood and bone on audiobook. Red Winter sounds great. I found that I’m able to write more if I listen to audio books.
I never used to like audiobooks but I gave them a second try a couple of years ago and now I love them.
Same for Klune and Harrow’s books! I ended up listening to them both. Partially because of the covers, partially because of the reviews.
