Top Ten Tuesday – Books I’d Love to See Adapted for Netflix or Hulu
Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together. Top Ten Tuesday has been one of my favorite memes ever since I started blogging, so huge thanks to Jana for taking over the hosting duties!
This week’s TTT topic is Books that Should be Adapted into Netflix Shows/Movies. I’m really feeling this topic because I recently watched the Hulu adaptation of Love, Victor, which ties into Becky Albertalli’s Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda. They did such a great job with the series that it has really had my wheels turning about what other books I love would make great movies or TV series. I have confined my topic to Netflix and Hulu mainly just because those are the two streaming services I have and I’m honestly not willing to go out and subscribe to every single service there is out there. So yeah, I want to see these bad boys show up on something I’m already paying for.

Books I’d Love to See Adapted for Netflix or Hulu
1. SHADES OF MAGIC by VICTORIA (V.E.) SCHWAB
My favorite fantasy series is of course at the top of my list of books I’d love to see brought to life onscreen.
It makes me giddy even thinking about actually seeing Kell, Lila, Rhys, and the Four Londons.

2. THE LUNAR CHRONICLES by MARISSA MEYER
Next on my list is my favorite fairy tale retelling, the futuristic Lunar Chronicles.
I think it would just be such much fun to actually watch these
characters in action and see all of the shout outs to the original fairy tales.

3. CARAVAL by Stephanie Garber
Although I’ll admit that the purple prose in these books occasionally felt a little much,
I think translating that same prose into an actual visual would make for a glorious series or movie.
* * * * *
4. THE BROWN SISTERS by Talia Hibbert
I adore Chloe and Dani Brown (and also can’t wait to meet their sister Eve in the upcoming third book).
I think their stories would just make for the cutest, sexiest rom-coms.
* * * * *
5. ONCE UPON A CON by ASHLEY POSTON
This is another fairytale retelling that I think would make a fun movie or series.
I’d love to get to actually attend the cool conferences we read about in these books.

6. LOVE FROM A TO Z by S.K. ALI
Adam and Zayneb were just so precious and I think it would make for a great Netflix film.
It has the perfect balance of super cute romance, with more serious topics covered as well.

After watching the film Love, Simon and the Hulu series Love, Victor,
I’m convinced that any of Becky Albertalli’s contemporary novels would be great on-screen.

8. ANYTHING by SANDHYA MENON
I’ve adored every contemporary novel I’ve read by Sandhya Menon and think they would be so cute as a Netflix series.
* * * * *
9. STALKING JACK THE RIPPER by KERRI MANISCALCO
I also like to watch darker shows like Riverdale and The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina,
so I think something like the Stalking Jack the Ripper series would be fantastic as either a limited series or film.

10. ANYTHING by KAREN MCMANUS
Edited to add that I just learned that One of Us is Lying actually is being made into a series for the Peacock streaming service.
Bummer that it’s not on Netflix or Hulu, but hopefully I’ll figure out a way to watch it.

Question: Would you watch any of these if they were adapted for Netflix or Hulu?
Great list! The Lunar Chronicles made my list this week, too, and Talia Hibbert’s books would be SUCH good rom-coms.
Thank you! 🙂
This is a lovely article – there are a number of series here that I don’t know. But yes – I’d love to see them featured. There is an AWFUL lot of really bleak stuff serialised at present and I’m struggling to find something suitably escapist, yet funny:)
I’ve been craving fun things to watch too but struggling to find something that works for me. I’ve actually ended up going back to oldies but goodies like Will & Grace and The Golden Girls.
I think The Lunar Chronicles would be awesome! So many settings, so many characters – it would be great to see that world come to life.
I do too. I think the visuals would be so cool!
I would TOTALLY watch a Talia Hibbert series OR a Sandhya Menon one!! And ohhh, One of us is Lying is already going to bee a tv series? AWESOME!
Yeah, I wish it was on a streaming service that I already subscribed to, but hopefully there’s a free trial option on Peacock that I can use once the series is available.
I’m kind of surprised some of these haven’t been made already, especially The Lunar Chronicles😁
Me too honestly. It feels like there are a lot of missed opportunities there.
I would love to see The Lunar Chronicles as a show! It would be amazing! Also love the idea of a Dimpleverse series of movies. I’m really curious to see how the Dimple movie coming out on Netflix will be since it sounds like Sandhya didn’t really have any input.
I didn’t even know there was a Dimple movie coming out. I’ll have to look for that.
Didn’t something by Schwab get optioned? I feel like it’s this series, but not positive. I sort of think Menon’s was too (though I included it on my list)
It’s entirely possible. I haven’t been very good about keeping up with what has already been optioned. I hope so though because they’ll all be must-watch for me. 🙂
I am excited about One of Us Is Lying! I would LOVE to see a tv series for the Shades of Magic and Lunar Chronicles series. I love those so much and it could be really well done in a TV format, I think.
-Lauren
I think so too. I was totally imagining them in my head as I was drafting this post and got so excited about the possibilities.
Awesome list! We had a few picks that were the same. I almost included the Shades of Magic series as well because I think that’d make an amazing series but there were just too many to choose from for this week’s topic 😂
I agree. I could have easily made a top 20 list this week, lol.
I’ve heard of a few of these but I haven’t read any of them.
If you read them, I hope you enjoy them. 🙂
I just need to read a few of these first… Actually, I’m one of those readers who don’t really mind to first watch the movie/series and then read the books. I’ve had good and bad experiences both ways. Shades of Magic will be great! I’ve only read the first one, but it was awesome.
Need to read Karen Macmanus still.
Happy TTT and here’s my 10 Books that should be adapted for Netflix
I think Shades of Magic would be incredible. I hope you enjoy the rest of the book series.
I’d love to watch Love from A to Z.
My TTT .
It would be so cute!
I’ve not read any of these but Caraval keeps popping up and gets so much praise, I’d imagine it would be really good on screen.
I think so. All that magic would be amazing on screen. 🙂
Yes yes yes to all of these books!
Here’s my Top Ten Tuesday post.
Right? They would be so good!
Yes to so many of these! There are tons of books being adapted lately but there are way too many streaming services! it is hard to keep track of where everything ends up and how I am going to watch it.
Right? It’s difficult to keep track of, not to mention expensive to have to subscribe to all of hem.
Caraval sounds like it would be fun. Once Upon A Con too.
Those Jack the Ripper books too look so good, I can see that being an AWESOME series.
Same here with McManus. So excited to see that but why not Netflix????????
I know. I’m so bummed it didn’t land on Netflix or Hulu. Hopefully there’s a free trial option or something we can use.
So many good ones here! I know When Dimple Met Rishi was teased on Netflix India a while back, but I could definitely go for a TV series covering all of the books! I’m also beyond excited for the One of Us is Lying adaptation, but I’m not sure how I’ll be watching it yet either since I don’t have Peacock.
I think the Lunar Chronicles would make good movies (or a series!), however I’d be most excited for a Once Upon a Con movie/series. Geekerella would be such a cute movie. Unfortunately I haven’t gotten a hold of the other two yet, so I can’t speak for them.
Geekerella would be so cute. 🙂
The Talia Hibbert would be amazing romcom Suzanne and I’d watch these high school crime mysteries of Karen Mcmanus in a heartbeat!
Same here. 🙂
We have a lot of these in common! I’d love to see the Once Upon a Con series on TV.
I think it would be so much fun!
I think The Lunar Chronicles may be the big winner this week. Here’s hoping someone is paying attention. 😉
Right? I really hope so!
Love your list, Suzanne. I think I’d watch most of these. Lol!
Thank you!
