Can’t Wait Wednesday – THE COURT OF MIRACLES by Kester Grant
“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted at Breaking the Spine, which encourages fellow bloggers to spotlight upcoming releases that we’re excited about. It is a meme that I have loved participating in for over a year now, but as Jill is no longer actively posting, from now on I’ll be linking to Can’t Wait Wednesday, hosted by Tressa at Wishful Endings, which is a spinoff of the original WoW meme.

My selection for this week is THE COURT OF MIRACLES by Kester Grant. I was sold on this book as soon as I read “Les Miserables meets Six of Crows.” That, coupled with the idea of an alternate Paris where the French Revolution has failed, makes this book too intriguing to pass up.
THE COURT OF MIRACLES by Kester Grant
Publication Date: June 2, 2020
From Netgalley:
Les Misérables meets Six of Crows in this page-turning adventure as a young thief finds herself going head to head with leaders of Paris’s criminal underground in the wake of the French Revolution.
In the violent urban jungle of an alternate 1828 Paris, the French Revolution has failed and the city is divided between merciless royalty and nine underworld criminal guilds, known as the Court of Miracles. Eponine (Nina) Thénardier is a talented cat burglar and member of the Thieves Guild. Nina’s life is midnight robberies, avoiding her father’s fists, and watching over her naïve adopted sister, Cosette (Ettie). When Ettie attracts the eye of the Tiger–the ruthless lord of the Guild of Flesh–Nina is caught in a desperate race to keep the younger girl safe. Her vow takes her from the city’s dark underbelly to the glittering court of Louis XVII. And it also forces Nina to make a terrible choice–protect Ettie and set off a brutal war between the guilds, or forever lose her sister to the Tiger.

I’m really intrigued by it. The last Les Mis retelling I read was excellent so I’m definitely interested in seeing another author’s spin on the classic.
I love the sounds of this one!!! I need to add it to my wishlist right now.

Thanks, I hope so too, and I hope you enjoy Six of Crows when you get to it.
This is a gorgeous cover, Suzanne! It reminds me of the ornate ceilings in some older Paris buildings. It’s such an intriguing premise — I can’t wait to start reading reviews for it — and I HOPE it’s as good as the blurb promises!

Same here! I really hope it lives up to that comparison to Six of Crows.
Les Mis combined with Six of Crows? The synopsis definitely makes it seem like that mix is fairly accurate. I would be curious to see what people end up thinking of this one!
