Can’t Wait Wednesday – THE GOOD LUCK GIRLS by Charlotte Nicole Davis
“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted at Breaking the Spine, which encourages fellow bloggers to spotlight upcoming releases that we’re excited about. It is a meme that I have loved participating in for over a year now, but as Jill is no longer actively posting, from now on I’ll just be linking to Can’t Wait Wednesday, hosted by Tressa at Wishful Endings, which is a spinoff of the original WoW meme.

My selection for this week is THE GOOD LUCK GIRLS by Charlotte Nicole Davis. The Westworld meets The Handmaid’s Tale comparison really grabbed my attention when I first read this book’s synopsis. I also like that it’s labeled as both fantasy and historical fiction on Goodreads and that it sounds like it’s going to be a pretty intense read.
THE GOOD LUCK GIRLS by Charlotte Nicole Davis
Publication Date: October 1, 2019
From Goodreads:
Westworld meets The Handmaid’s Tale in this stunning fantasy adventure from debut author Charlotte Nicole Davis.
Aster, the protector
Violet, the favorite
Tansy, the medic
Mallow, the fighter
Clementine, the catalyst
THE GOOD LUCK GIRLS
The country of Arketta calls them Good Luck Girls–they know their luck is anything but. Sold to a “welcome house” as children and branded with cursed markings. Trapped in a life they would never have chosen.
When Clementine accidentally murders a man, the girls risk a dangerous escape and harrowing journey to find freedom, justice, and revenge in a country that wants them to have none of those things. Pursued by Arketta’s most vicious and powerful forces, both human and inhuman, their only hope lies in a bedtime story passed from one Good Luck Girl to another, a story that only the youngest or most desperate would ever believe.
It’s going to take more than luck for them all to survive.

You’re welcome!
I’m immediately intrigued by the Westworld comparison, we just started watching it!
I’ve heard good things about it!
I have had my eye on this one as well. There seem to be quite a few of these Handmaid’s Tale inspired books releasing this year and I am here for them. I hope that we both enjoy it. 🙂

This is a new to me title, but I really like the sound of it. I am already hoping their escape is successful just from the book’s description. I hope you enjoy this one, Suzanne.

Thanks, I hope so too!
That sounds very intriguing. And the cover – just wow. The look on her face, how she stands there… Though I guess, that the black woman combined with the summary tells us everything. Happy reading and thanks for sharing this book with us.
Best wishes

Blimey – this one sounds an intense read!
It really does!
I haven’t seen The Handmaid’s Tale, because I don’t think I could stomach the content. The very idea of what they’re going through makes me sick. I know it’s fictional, but ugh. I’ve seen this book in passing, but haven’t officially added it to my TBR yet. I just don’t know if I want to experience that type of mental turmoil.

I’ve been loving Tor’s books too. Hopefully this one will be just as good as the others I’ve read.
Oh my, that is certainly a powerful comparison to those two shows/ stories. I haven’t heard of this one before — can’t wait for the reviews to see if it holds up to the promise in the blurb!

It sounds like it would make for a great audiobook!
I absolutely love Wednesday’s on blogs when I can pick up new reads, I’m terrible at keeping up with new releases. This sounds magnificent Suzanne, I love books with female uprisings and women fighting back. It’s frightening how accurate it is considering what’s happening around the world in terms of female equality and rights, especially in the US. Cannot wait to read this one either, great choice!
Yes, it definitely sounds like its themes will be timely ones.
I’d never heard of this book, but it sounds fantastic!

Doesn’t it? I really hope it’s as good as it sounds.
It seems like The Handmaid’s Tale is the comparison to make these days! This one sounds amazing, and I love the diversity. Thanks for sharing this, Suzanne!
I agree. The Handmaid’s Tale has certainly inspired its fair share of new books this year.
