Can’t Wait Wednesday – THE FOUNTAINS OF SILENCE by Ruta Sepetys
“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted at Breaking the Spine, which encourages fellow bloggers to spotlight upcoming releases that we’re excited about. It is a meme that I have loved participating in for over a year now, but as Jill is no longer actively posting, from now on I’ll just be linking to Can’t Wait Wednesday, hosted by Tressa at Wishful Endings, which is a spinoff of the original WoW meme.

My selection for this week is THE FOUNTAINS OF SILENCE by Ruta Sepetys. I’m always on the lookout for good historical fiction and I’ve had really good luck with Sepetys’ books so far. I’ve not read much at all about the time period her latest book focuses on so I’m excited to dive into this one.
THE FOUNTAINS OF SILENCE by Ruta Sepetys
Publication Date: October 1, 2019
From Goodreads:
Madrid, 1957. Under the fascist dictatorship of General Francisco Franco, Spain is hiding a dark secret. Meanwhile, tourists and foreign businessmen flood into Spain under the welcoming guise of sunshine and wine. Among them is eighteen-year-old Daniel Matheson, the son of a Texas oil tycoon, who arrives in Madrid with his parents hoping to connect with the country of his mother’s birth through the lens of his camera. Photography–and fate–introduce him to Ana, whose family’s interweaving obstacles reveal the lingering grasp of the Spanish Civil War–as well as chilling definitions of fortune and fear. Daniel’s photographs leave him with uncomfortable questions amidst shadows of danger. He is backed into a corner of decisions to protect those he loves. Lives and hearts collide, revealing an incredibly dark side to the sunny Spanish city.
Master storyteller Ruta Sepetys once again shines light into one of history’s darkest corners in this epic, heart-wrenching novel about identity, unforgettable love, repercussions of war, and the hidden violence of silence–inspired by the true post-war struggles of Spain.

The cover is so mysterious and striking — coupled with the blurb, it certainly does sound like it’s going to be an engrossing read, Suzanne. I hope you enjoy it!
Thanks, me too!
I still need to read one of her books!
Salt to the Sea is really good if you have any interest in WWII historical fiction.
Adding this to my shelf!
I hope you love it!
I had not heard of this, but I love that it’s a historical set in Madrid😁 Great choice!
Right? Pretty sure I’ve never read a historical fiction with that setting before.
I have yet to read anything by Sepetys, despite seeing rave review after rave review for her books. This setting is unique and I’ve definitely ever read anything set during the Spanish Civil War before.
This setting is new to me too. If you like WWII based historical fiction, I definitely recommend her book Salt to the Sea.
I STILL need to read this author. My sister loves Between Shades of Grey and I do want to read her stuff. This one sounds great!

I still need to read Between Shades of Grey but have heard wonderful things about it. Salt to the Sea is my favorite from her so far.
I’ve listened to previous titles by her, so this appeals to me. Good find!
Thanks!
I featured this book as well! I can’t wait!
I hope we both love it!
I had no idea that she has a new book coming out! I really enjoyed Between Shades of Grey. Thanks for sharing a new book for my TBR. 🙂
