Can’t Wait Wednesday – THE GIRL THE SEA GAVE BACK by Adrienne Young
“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted at Breaking the Spine, which encourages fellow bloggers to spotlight upcoming releases that we’re excited about. It is a meme that I have loved participating in for over a year now, but as Jill is no longer actively posting, from now on I’ll just be linking to Can’t Wait Wednesday, hosted by Tressa at Wishful Endings, which is a spinoff of the original WoW meme.

My selection for this week is THE GIRL THE SEA GAVE BACK by Adrienne Young. The Girl the Sea Gave Back is a companion novel to Young’s Viking novel, Sky in the Deep, and it features one of my favorite characters from that novel, Halvard, 10 years after the events of Sky in the Deep. I can’t wait to revisit Young’s Viking world and the main character of this new book sounds fantastic. I’m looking forward to seeing how she and Halvard end up crossing paths and also if we’ll get to see any other characters from Sky in the Deep.
THE GIRL THE SEA GAVE BACK by Adrienne Young
Publication Date: September 3, 2019
From Goodreads:
For as long as she can remember, Tova has lived among the Svell, the people who found her washed ashore as a child and use her for her gift as a Truthtongue. Her own home and clan are long-faded memories, but the sacred symbols and staves inked over every inch of her skin mark her as one who can cast the rune stones and see into the future. She has found a fragile place among those who fear her, but when two clans to the east bury their age-old blood feud and join together as one, her world is dangerously close to collapse.
For the first time in generations, the leaders of the Svell are divided. Should they maintain peace or go to war with the allied clans to protect their newfound power? And when their chieftain looks to Tova to cast the stones, she sets into motion a series of events that will not only change the landscape of the mainland forever but will give her something she believed she could never have again—a home.

I’d love to hear what upcoming book releases you’re waiting on this Wednesday? Leave me your link in the comments below and I’ll stop by and check out your CWW selection for this week. 🙂
First, wow. That cover is spectacular. The blurb is so interesting: I keep wondering if the two clans that have allied together — is one the home she thought she lost? Or is this about finding home with the Svell?
I had the same questions, lol.
I haven’t read Sky in the Deep, but it’s always fun to revisit characters and worlds!
I agree!
That cover is stunning, Suzanne, and I’m super intrigued by this one, too. I hope you love it!
Thanks, I hope so too!
Oh my gosh that cover! It’s one of the nicest covers that I’ve seen for 2019. I didn’t even know this book was coming out – I’m going to have to preorder this one!
It’s one of my favorite covers too. So gorgeous!
I’m really excited to revisit this world as well! It was so unique😁
It really was. 🙂
That cover is gorgeous and the premise just says read me!
Doesn’t it? I have a feeling it might even be better than the first book in the series.
I absolutely love this cover, I also can’t wait to read this one.
I love the cover too. It’s just stunning.
This one sounds really intriguing – and I LOVE that cover:))
I love the cover too. It’s gorgeous.
I’ve been seeing this one around lots of places. I think it’s going to be quite popular.
I think so too.
I’m looking forward to this too, especially revisiting that world and hopefully learning more about it. I hope some other Sky in the deep chars show up too. 🙂
Yes, I would definitely love to learn more about that world. I feel like we’re really just getting started with all there is to know.
Love the cover! Hope you enjoy!
Thanks, I hope so too. 🙂
I am not reading much fantasy these days, but that cover is incredible. Tova sounds kickass too.
Right? I love the cover too. It’s just beautiful.
I haven’t read anything by this author before. I hope you enjoy reading this book!!
My WoW
Thank you!
This is new to me, but it sounds really interesting. I love the cover!
Right? That cover is stunning!
Lovely cover. I need to read the first book this year
I hope you enjoy it!
I’m on the fence because I wasn’t in love with Sky in the Deep, but I am intrigued.
I might be wrong, but I have a feeling this one is going to be even better than Sky in the Deep was.
Suzanne I would buy it for the cover only!!!!!!!!!
Haha, same. It’s stunning!
Well, the cover is absolutely fantabulous, so if the book is half as good … 🙂
Right? I’m so in love with that cover.
Yay, it’s great when a companion novel is about a character you loved in the original! Unfortunately for me, they usually end up being about characters I don’t care about lol.
LOL! I’m intrigued by this one since the character is one I really liked in the first book and now he’s all grown up. Hopefully I’ll still like him, lol.
I absolutely cannot wait for this one too Suzanne! I loved Sky in the Deep and was disappointed at the time that it was a standalone, I wanted so much more from the fictional viking world. This is going to be an epic release, been keeping an eye out for when I’ll be able to preorder! Brilliant choice *claps wildly*
I’m glad I’m not the only one excited for this book. I can’t wait to revisit this world!
I feel like I’ve been living under a bit of a bookish rock. I guess I’ve been frequenting Bookstagram more often these days which is only really about new releases and backlisted books since.. It’s basically photos OF CURRENT BOOKS. Ha ha. Anyways, this one looks amazing and I didn’t even know about it until now!
I love Bookstagram. I need to get better about posting there more regularly. Hopefully I’ll do better now that spring is coming and the days are getting longer. More natural light for photo taking. 🙂
This sounds awesome. Shame it’s not out until September!
I know, right? I’d love to read it right now.
Ooooh I am super excited for this book too <3 The cover is amazing and I loved Sky in the Deep <3
I really can’t wait to revisit this world!
I have not yet read Sky in the Deep, BUT this cover is amazing!!!!
It really is. I love everything about it!
