I love a grumpy-sunshine romance and I’m all about a single dad storyline, so this one was calling to me from the very first page. Heck, honestly from that gorgeous cover, lol. I absolutely loved the premise too. Griffin is a famous rockstar, but he has had major writer’s block for a while now. He owes his label a new record but about the only thing he can write lately are children’s songs for his young daughter, Ava. Beverly is a puppeteer who writes children’s TV shows and she is currently desperately trying to save the one that has been her family’s life’s work. When Beverly and Griffin appear on the same entertainment show and Griffin accidentally wanders onto the set while Bevery is performing, she rolls with it and makes him part of her act. Griffin is surprised by how much he actually enjoys it, and when he hears about Beverly’s predicament, he offers to write music for her show and even temporarily moves to her small town, pretending to be her boyfriend, so that he can work with her. I truly loved everything about this story! Griffin and Beverly have the most incredible chemistry, both in their working relationship and as things start to heat up between them. I also adored every scene that featured Griffin’s daughter. Ava is the cutest little scene stealer, and it was so fun watching Griffin, Beverly, her whole family, and basically the whole town become a found family for her. This story was so sweet, so heartfelt, and like I said, just delivered everything I wanted and more. You know the moment when you’re reading and finally find where the book’s title comes from? That moment was truly magical in this one and made me cry! I actually haven’t read the first two books in the series, but this worked well as a standalone for me. It follows Effie Sherwood, who is the eldest but most impulsive and chaotic of the Sherwood Sisters. When she thinks Darius, the grumpy alpha werewolf has stolen her coven’s ancient book of spells, she decides to hop right on the back of his motorcycle while he’s making his getaway. Effie loves to push people’s buttons and as soon as she realizes how grumpy and buttoned-up Darius is, she can’t resist winding him up at every opportunity. To save face when he returns to his pack, Darius tells them that he has kidnapped Effie to hold her for ransom. Effie tries to use her magic to escape but keeps inexplicably snapping right back to Darius’ side. When the oracle tells them it’s because they’re actually fated mates, their reactions are the same “Oh, hell no!”, although neither can deny that they find the other irresistibly attractive. This was such a wild ride and a good time! I thought it was hilarious how hard they both tried to fight the idea that they were actually fated mates but yet often fell into bed with one another because they couldn’t fight their mutual attraction. Their chemistry is undeniable and the sassy banter, especially from Effie, had me cackling as I was reading. It was fun watching them get to know one another better and actually work together when it becomes clear that someone in the pack is trying to take Darius’ spot as alpha. I really enjoyed this witchy romcom and think I would have loved it even more if I had read first two books so I definitely want to do that at some point so I can meet Effie’s sisters. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ❓QOTD - If you had to choose a favorite - witches, werewolves, vampires, or other? AOTD - Definitely witches for me. I love the variety of witchy stories out there.

Knox Sterling is a self-made billionaire with a playboy reputation who has had a crush on his best friend, Amy, since they were kids. Amy is a grounding influence in Knox’s life, and he has never wanted to risk that friendship so he has kept his crush a secret for years. When he is in an accident and ends up in the hospital, however, he starts to think about life and how short it can be. When Amy, who is a school teacher, asks Knox to help her chaperone a field trip and serve as a mentor to her students, he can’t say no. The trip doesn’t go as planned, however, and Knox and Amy end up stranded in a small town overnight and there’s only one hotel room available.That and one reckless kiss is all that it takes for everything to change between them. Oh my gosh, this was such a fun listen! I love a reformed playboy storyline, and watching Knox yearn for Amy was everything. Their chemistry was incredible, both as friends and then as more than friends once all of that tension spills over, and I loved watching them together. There was just the right amount of spice after a slow burn buildup, and there’s also so much fun banter. I had a great time following their journey to a happily ever after! The audiobook is narrated by J.F. Harding and Stella Hunter, who turn in fantastic performances as Knox and Amy. Their voices compliment each other so well and really brought these characters to life in such a vivid way. This was also a quick listen and I was able to finish it in one afternoon while doing chores. It definitely made those chores so much more palatable, that’s for sure! Reckless Kisses is the fifth book in the Sterling Brothers series but worked great as a standalone for me. Thanks to @minotaur_books #partner and @macmillan.audio #macaudio2026 for the gifted review copies. 🔎 REVIEW - MOTHER DAUGHTER SISTER STRANGER 🔎 Author - Hank Phillippi Ryan Pub Date - 9/1/2026 Mother Daughter Sister Stranger is an addictive, bingeable psychological thriller that is filled with the perfect amount of twists and turns. I’ve been wanting to try one of this author’s thrillers for a while now, and wow, I totally ate this one up! Eliza’s niece, Piper, is supposed to be staying with her for one week while her mom is away. When Bea doesn’t show up and is unreachable by phone, Eliza heads to Bea’s house, only to discover that all of her clothes are missing. Abandoning her daughter is completely out of character for Bea, as is missing the Remembrance Day that honors their parents, so Eliza is sure that something awful has happened to her. This is a fast paced, twisty thriller with short chapters that really keep things moving and help build suspense as Eliza desperately tries to figure out what has happened to her sister, while also trying to keep her niece safe and calm since of course Piper is starting to worry about her missing mom too. Sometimes with thrillers, I love the twists and turns but don’t necessarily connect with the characters personally, but that was not the case here. I felt just as desperate to find Bea as Eliza and was completely invested in seeing how the story played out and was really hoping there was a happy ending for these sisters who have already lost so much. The author also did a great job with the twists and turns and I was misdirected as to who was responsible a couple of times and ultimately did not figure it out before the reveal. The audiobook was narrated by Stevi Incremona, who did an excellent job bringing the characters to life and giving them unique voices, as well as capturing the urgent tone and the ever building tension and suspense as long-buried family secrets are exposed, turning everything Eliza thought she knew upside down. This was my final read of August and it ended up being my favorite of the month! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 ❓QOTD - Who’s a new-to-you author you’ve enjoyed lately?

Thanks to @simon.audio #partner for the gifted aud Thanks to @simon.audio #partner for the gifted audiobook. 🧁 REVIEW - A TASTE OF MAGIC 🧁 Author - Tricia O’Malley Pub Date - 8/25/2026 If you’re a fan of second chance romances, reality TV baking shows, and cozy romantasy, you’re going to want to check out A Taste of Magic. It’s the second book in Tricia O’Malley Scottish Charms series and it’s delightful! It was so fun being back in the charming magical town of Briarhaven, where those with magic live openly and outsiders believe the magic is all an act to bring in tourists. I also loved getting Lyra’s story this time. Lyra MacGregor is a baker with a popular social media account. When a magical reality baking show wants to film in Briarhaven, Lyra immediately signs up, but then her magic decides to go wonky, turning sugar into salt, spoons into hedgehogs, etc. It’s too late to back out now though, although she would love to when she gets paired up with, of all people, her ex-boyfriend and high school sweetheart, Rabbie. I love a good second chance romance, and it’s so clear from the moment Lyra and Rabbie start working together on the competation that they are both still harboring unresolved feelings for one another. There’s some tension but it soon gives way to a heartwarming journey for them, and I was here for every magical baking mishap as they found their way back to one another. I really liked both characters too. Lyra is a bit chaotic, even when her magic doesn’t have a mind of its own, but she’s just so easy to like and to root for. Rabbie is Lyra’s opposite in many ways, but the two of them make a great team in every way. I loved how supportive he was of her, and determined the two of them were to find a way to make the competition work for them, even though he had never baked before and she can’t control her magic but can’t just not use it because of the contest rules. The audiobook is narrated by John Hartley & Siobhan Waring, and they were just a delight to listen to. I thought the accents sounded authentic and that they both captured the whimsical and romantic vibe of the story. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ❓QOTD - Favorite baked good? AOTD - Cinnamon rolls
💅 MATCH YOUR MANI MONDAY 💅 Hey book friends! I h 💅 MATCH YOUR MANI MONDAY 💅 Hey book friends! I hope you all had a great weekend and got plenty of reading time in. Today I’m sharing some fun goodies that were #gifted to me by @oliveandjune. I’m not normally a big nail girlie - I’m rough on mine because I’m always typing for work, typing book reviews, or otherwise working with my hands. My manis don’t last long and I just end up cutting my nails short. I’ve been eyeing Olive and June’s press on nails for a while now though since they come in such a variety of lengths and shapes and when they reached out and asked if I’d like to try some out, I couldn’t resist. As you can see in my last slide, they sent several sets in a variety colors and a removal kit as well. The soft plaid nails immediately caught my eye and looked perfect for late summer early fall. They were so easy to put on, lasted for well over a week even with me being rough on them, and they were easy to remove as well. I can’t wait to try some of the other colors. That velvet mocha is screaming fall, and the red looks perfect for Christmas! Thanks @oliveandjune! Because I’m a book girlie at heart though, I of course had to match that plaid set of nails to some of my favorite orange, blue, and white @berkleyromance books. Unfortunately for Allie, who needs her phone for her work, Milo is filming on location in Romania for three weeks. She’ll have to wait until he returns to London to get her phone back. In the meantime, they agree to play secretary for one another, relaying messages. With all of the back and forth, Allie and Milo quickly become friends and develop feelings for one another. Just before they are slated to meet in London, somehow all of their private chats end up leaked to the media, and they each blame the other and immediately break all contact until two years later when they coincidentally end up on the same scientific mission in the Arctic. Trapped together in the Arctic, Milo and Allie are forced to revisit old wounds and old feelings, which are clearly still there. I thought the premise of this story, the swapped phones, was such a fun and unique way to have a meet cute between characters. I also loved them bonding while playing secretary for one another. They had so many fun and flirty conversations as well as some meatier conversations with emotional depth as they got to know one another better. I also loved what felt like kismet when they end up in the Arctic together. I mean, what are the odds of Milo doing a documentary that just happens to tie in with Allie’s research? I could have done without the miscommunication, but even though it drove me crazy, it did feel realistic for their particular situation. Bottom line, I found both characters to be very likeable, which made the story an enjoyable read and listen overall. Rebecca Norfolk & Nikolas Salmon are both new-to-me narrators and they did a wonderful job bringing Allie and Milo to life & capturing both the humor & the more emotional moments between them. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ❓QOTD - Any books you’re hoping to finish before the end

It’s a multi-generational family drama that is part love story and part ghost story. Set in a small town in North Carolina, it follows several generations of women from the Wester family and the gift, or curse depending on your perspective, that they all share. I really enjoyed the way this story unfolds in a dual timeline. The first follows Willamena Wester back in 1976 where she meets and falls in love with musician named Jack. Willahema feels trapped and overly controlled by her grandmother and makes plans to run away with Jack, a decision that ultimately takes a tragic turn. The second timeline is set in the present day and follows Bailey Wester, who is Willamena’s granddaughter. Bailey has just returned to the small North Carolina town and even though her grandmother pushed her away years ago, the two of them reluctantly reconnect now that Bailey has returned. Reconnecting though stirs up long-buried secrets from the past. I don’t want to give anything else away, but I am going to saw that these characters really got under my skin, esepcially the grandmothers, who I actually found pretty infurating becausae of some of the choices they made. They definitely kept me reading though so that’s something! As we follow the two timelines, we explore the many ways that people, and especially the Wester women, can be haunted. Yes, there are actual spirits in the book, but equally haunting are old photos, memories, secrets, and a curse that just keeps giving. I thought the writing was just so beautiful and atmospheric, loved the hints of magical realism and the Gothic vibes, and was impressed at how much of an emotional punch, this short book (only 277 pages) packed. Marin Ireland narrates the audiobook & perfectly captures the emotional depth & the overall haunting tone of the story. Highly recommend! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 ❓QOTD - Favo

It comes with the final book they receive, right as they are ready to start Kindergarten. To date, that program has gifted over 300 million books to young readers worldwide. There’s so much to love about Dolly Parton, but as a lifelong reader, I loved what she did with this program the most. Yes, books are a treasure, and so was Dolly. Her job as Director of Operations for the scandal-ridden L.A. Aces is super stressful though, so much so that she often sleeps in her office rather than go home and rest. When the guys on the team decide that Michelle is way too uptight and needs to learn how to relax, it is Tristan Gold, the team’s goalie, who offers to show her the way. Tristan has been pining after Michelle for ages, so this is the perfect opportunity for him to really show her how much he likes her, that is, if she’ll let him. I love a good black cat/golden retriever romance and this one is just so good! Even though she tries so hard to resist Tristan’s charms, Michelle can’t help but be attracted to him because he’s just a walking green flag in pretty much every way. He’s sweet, flirty, supportive, and I just adored everything about him. He teases her about being so uptight, but he truly does worry about the stressful situation she is in and wants to be there for her. The two of them share incredible chemistry and engage in some of the most hilarious banter, but it’s those scenes where he takes care of her that really made me swoon. I mean, he even bakes her cookies! Aside from the excellent spicy romance, there’s also a tremendous amount of growth as Michelle figures out what she really wants for herself, both personally and professionally. I really liked her and was rooting for her to find a healthier professional path for herself. Another thing this book does really well is found family within the soccer team. Ted Lasso is one of my favorite shows, and the team dynamic here was giving major Ted Lasso vibes, so I was loving it! Riley and Luna actually meet for the first time when they are boarding the same plane to head to Europe to get ready for the tour. They become fast friends, which shocks Riley, because how in the world is she becoming friends with someone who is famous? I loved the dynamic of their friendship, even though Luna’s manager frowned up on it since Riley is hired help and should keep a professional distance from Luna. Riley and Luna weren’t having it though and the more they hang out together as they travel across Europe throughout the summer, the more they realize they may have more than friendly feelings toward one another. I enjoyed both of these characters and thought they both had tremendous character development. They’re both messy and conflicted, and so well drawn that they feel like real people. Riley is trying to work her way through the grief of losing her sister, which has made her put some of her career dreams on hold, while Luna is navigating her first ever feelings for a woman, while she also has a boyfriend who she wrote some of her biggest songs with. There’s some drama surrounding that storyline, especially the public scrutiny and pressure that goes along with Luna dating not only a woman, but one who isn’t a celebrity and the question of whether or not she cheated on her then boyfriend to be with this woman. This was such a bingeable summer romance, overall light and fun but with the perfect balance of drama to keep things interesting. I really enjoyed the author’s writing and look forward to reading more from her. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ❓QOTD - Riley’s specialty dishes are seafood-based from where she grew up cooking with her dads at their Lobster Shack in Provincetown.
