Top Ten Tuesday – It’s Back to School Time: Ten of My Favorite Reads with an Academic Setting
Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together. Top Ten Tuesday has been one of my favorite memes ever since I started blogging, so huge thanks to Jana for taking over the hosting duties!
This week’s TTT topic is School Freebie (In honor of school starting up soon, come up with a topic that somehow ties to school/education. The book could be set at school/college, characters could be teachers, books with school supplies on the cover, nonfiction titles, books that taught you something or how to do something, your favorite required reading in school, books you think should be required reading, your favorite banned books, etc.).
The last time we had a school freebie I shared 10 of my favorite reads that are set in school. That was a few years ago so I decided it would be fun to do the same post but updated for newer favorites. I’ve got a pretty wide selection here, from thrillers to romance, both Adult and YA so some are set in high schools while others are set at colleges or universities.
10 of My Favorite Reads with an Academic Setting
The “It” girl at Oxford is murdered and the list of possible suspects is a mile long because the “It” girl was also a mean girl.
2. SEE YOU YESTERDAY by Rachel Lynn Solomon
A YA romance with a major Groundhog’s Day vibe set at a college where two students
find themselves reliving the first day of college over and over again.
3. A BRUSH WITH LOVE by Mazey Eddings
A super cute romance that is set in a dental school.
4. AS IF ON CUE by Marisa Kanter
An enemies-to-lovers romance that features A pair of fierce foes are forced to work together to save the arts at their high school.
5. PERFECT ON PAPER by Sophie Gonzales
A bisexual girl who gives anonymous love advice to her classmates is hired by the hot guy to help him get his ex back.
6. FOR YOUR OWN GOOD by Samantha Downing
A twisty thriller set at a prestigious private school where the Teacher of the Year is determined to teach everyone a lesson.
Teddy knows best and you’d better stay out of his way if you know what’s good for you…
7. THIS MAY END BADLY by Samantha Markum
A longtime rivalry between two boarding school escalates and spirals into pure chaos
when it’s announced that the two schools will be merging into one. The students just aren’t having it…
8. I KISSED SHARA WHEELER by Casey McQuiston
Shara Wheeler and Chloe Green are locked in a fierce race to win the title of class valedictorian. When Shara abruptly goes missing but leaves clues to her whereabouts, Chloe decides to play the game and find her. Because really, it’s just not as satisfying to win valedictorian because your rival stopped coming to school.
9. NINTH HOUSE by Leigh Bardugo
Set at Yale, this is a dark fantasy read that features Ivy League secret societies.
10. MY OXFORD YEAR by Julia Whelan
Set at Oxford, this is an emotional story about a determined young woman eager to make her mark in the world
and the handsome man who introduces her to an incredible love that will irrevocably alter her future.

For the first time in a long time, I haven’t read any of the book you shared! My Oxford Year was on my radar for a while but I never got around to it.
I just finally got around to that one recently. It’s really good!
I surprisingly haven’t read any of these but 90% of them are on my TBR 😂 Glad to see that you enjoyed them so much!
I hope you enjoy them all when you read them!
For Your Own Good was such a crazy read! See You Yesterday is one I’m really looking forward to finally reading!
I hope you love it!
I’ve read and LOVED both See You Yesterday and Ninth House, and Perfect on Paper, My Oxford Year and I kissed Shara Wheeler are all on my TBR still 🙂
I hope you love them!
I didn’t realize some of these are set in schools. For Your Own Good is a book I’ve been eyeing, even more so now that I know there’s a school involved 😁
That’s a wild one!
I’d somehow missed the fact that Ninth House has an academic setting. Cool!
Yeah, it’s a pretty interesting book too with those secret societies.
I should read My Oxford Year sometime.
Here is our Top Ten Tuesday. Thank you!
It’s really good!
I’ve read the Ruth Ware, Leigh Bardugo and Julia Whelan ones and rated them highly.
I enjoyed all of those too. 🙂
I loved A Brush with Love. So unique!
I loved that one too. Never thought a dental school would ever be a setting for a romance, but it really worked for me. 🙂
I’m reading As If on Cute Right now and really enjoying it! I love love loved I Kissed Shara Wheeler as well.
Shara Wheeler was so good!
I’ve read Ninth House and I enjoyed that one, looking forward to the sequel coming out next year.
Me too. I think I need to reread Ninth House before it comes out though to make sure I remember everything important.
I enjoyed My Oxford Year. And I can’t wait to read See You Yesterday. Love your list. 😀
That was such a fun read for me. I hope you love it!
Boy, it’s tough to find the comment square on your page I have to click around and click around till a cursor shows up. Anyway, that aside, Ninth House is on my list too and seems to be a popular one this week. I’m not familiar with any others on your list, but I haven’t read this one by Ruth Ware, so I’ll look for that one. But, sheesh, there are so many new-to-me books this week; my TBR is popping its seams!

I think the Top Ten Tuesday meme adds new books and authors to my TBR every week, haha.
I am so happy to see My Oxford Year here!!!
Such a good read!
I loooovve the sound of ninth House and cannot wait to read it!
It’s a good one! Oh and the sequel comes out next year.
My Oxford Year was SO GOOD! I hardly remember any buzz for it when it came out, but with Whelan’s newest book out, I am seeing it around more. Don’t care why, just happy to see people loving on a great book
I don’t remember much buzz for it either. I loved it and I also just finished her latest and thought that was great too. Oh and before I forget, I’m still having the random commenting issue on your site. I thought it was resolved but that nonce failure happened again tonight. I’ll try again in the morning since I seem to have better luck then.
I have not read any of these but you do have a nice mix. I went rogue, wasn’t feeling the topic today. Have a great week.
I really enjoyed your topic this week. 🙂
I want to pick up The It Girl. Sounds good! I recently listened to the newest Julia Whelan and loved it. I should go back to her first book.
I just read both of Whelan’s books and really loved them.
Ninth House made my list this week too. I haven’t read any of the other books on your list, but so many of them are on my TBR! Someday! 😀
Right? So many books, so little time to read them all, haha.
The only book on your list that I have read is Perfect on Paper!
