Can’t Wait Wednesday – WILDER GIRLS by Rory Power
“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted at Breaking the Spine, which encourages fellow bloggers to spotlight upcoming releases that we’re excited about. It is a meme that I have loved participating in for over a year now, but as Jill is no longer actively posting, from now on I’ll just be linking to Can’t Wait Wednesday, hosted by Tressa at Wishful Endings, which is a spinoff of the original WoW meme.

My selection for this week is WILDER GIRLS by Rory Power. The blurb on Netgalley describes this book as a feminist Lord of the Flies, which piqued my interest right away. Lord of the Flies was one of the most fascinating and disturbing books I read in high school so any books dubbed as similar are automatically going to be of interest to me. Also, that cover is pretty fabulous as well. Creepy yet beautiful.
WILDER GIRLS by Rory Power
Publication Date: July 9, 2019
From Goodreads:
It’s been eighteen months since the Raxter School for Girls was put under quarantine. Since the Tox hit and pulled Hetty’s life out from under her.
It started slow. First the teachers died one by one. Then it began to infect the students, turning their bodies strange and foreign. Now, cut off from the rest of the world and left to fend for themselves on their island home, the girls don’t dare wander outside the school’s fence, where the Tox has made the woods wild and dangerous. They wait for the cure they were promised as the Tox seeps into everything.
But when Byatt goes missing, Hetty will do anything to find her, even if it means breaking quarantine and braving the horrors that lie beyond the fence. And when she does, Hetty learns that there’s more to their story, to their life at Raxter, than she could have ever thought true.

I really like the sound of this one – school stories are always fun and add in a life-changing viral infection running rampant… Thank you for sharing!
You’re welcome!
I have had my eye on this one as well. The Lord of the Flies comparison has me really intrigued. Definitely one to check out. Thanks for sharing it! 🙂
You’re welcome. Yes, I really want to see how it compares to Lord of the Flies.
First time I’ve seen this title. Pretty scary!
Right?
Ooh, something weird is definitely going on here! Hope you enjoy this one!
Thanks!
Great choice, I love this cover, although it makes me a little uncomfortable, lol. Added to my list!
I know, right? It’s beautiful and creepy all at the same time, lol.
Ever since I saw that cover for this a little while ago I’ve been so intrigued! The premise sounds super intriguing and I’m definitely keeping my eye out for this one, it sounds right up my alley. Great pick!
Thanks!
I saw this one a few weeks back and it is definitely one I want to read. It’s gaining in popularity and I hope we both love it!
I hope so too! 🙂
I’ve never read or seen Lord of the Flies but this sounds interesting.
Lord of the Flies is a disturbing but excellent read so I’m hoping the comparison here works well.
Oh yeah. Boarding school plus something toxic plus a quarantine, having to venture outisde a fence- this one may push all the buttons lol! Awesome cover too.
Right? Sounds wild, doesn’t it?
Gosh, that cover Suzanne! Whew, this is going to be a good if intense like crazy too. Lord of the Flies stuck with me long after I read it in high school too — I agree, one of the most disturbing books.
I think this book is going to be a wild ride!
Oh wow this sounds so interesting! I hadn’t heard of it before! Definitely will be on the lookout for this one! <3
Also I absolutely can't wait for King of Scars by Leigh Bardugo!
Oh yes, King of Scars is definitely one I can’t wait to get my hands on!
This sounds delightfully claustrophobic.
Lol, right?
This one has such a cool cover! I’ve never read Lord of the Flies, but I might one day since I feel like people bring it up a lot, and it sounds interesting. Sounds like this will be a cool kinda retelling!
It’s definitely a good one to read since so many other books and movies seem to reference it. I found it to be a fascinating but disturbing read.
This sounds interesting and cool cover too.
I love the cover too.
Yeah, I’d be game for a feminist Lord of The Flies, too. Suzanne! I’ll be watching for your thoughts on this one.
It sounds pretty wild, doesn’t it?
