Top Ten Tuesday – Backlist Hall of Shame: 10 Books I’ve Said I’m Dying to Read for Years (but still haven’t)
Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together. Top Ten Tuesday has been one of my favorite memes ever since I started blogging, so huge thanks to Jana for taking over the hosting duties!
This week’s TTT topic is Backlist Books I Want to Read. I tweaked the topic a bit because I want to talk about those books that I’m embarrassed are still on my backlist because I’ve been saying for years now that I want to read all of them. I’ve lost track of how many backlist/TBR reading challenges I’ve put these titles on and yet somehow I still haven’t read them. Hell, most of you who have been following me since my earliest blogging days are probably shaking your heads and laughing that these books are still on my TBR, and I’m laughing/cringing right alongside you, lol.
The shame is real this time though and I’m determined to start putting a dent in this list because I really do want to read them all. Even if I only read one a month or so, my goal is that these ten books will finally be off my TBR by the end of 2019. For those who have read these, which one do you think I should start with? I’m leaning towards Tell Me Three Things or Lily and the Octopus, mainly because they’re standalones.

Great list! You’ve got some wonderful books ahead of you! I especially liked The Crown’s Game and And I Darken.
My TTT this week.
Glad to hear you enjoyed those two books so much. 🙂
I read MOTOE years ago and I love And I Darken but I haven’t got to the others yet either.
I’m glad I’m not the only one who still hasn’t read most of these.
I loved Hunted and Murder on the Orient Express is mind-blowing. So, I’d recommend you to start by any of them.
Happy readings! 😉
Tânia @MyLovelySecret
Thanks for the recs 🙂
I implore you to read The Crown’s Game! I absolutely loooove it. And it’s a good winter read. I hope you enjoy all of these lovelies.
Thanks for sharing,
~Brittany @ Brittany’s Book Rambles
Thanks for the head’s up. I will plan to read it this winter then. 🙂
Ink & Bone is the only one I’ve read on this list, and I LOVED it. But hey, I think we all have these lists, I know my list is miles long! All those shiny new books just keep coming😁
Right?! So many books, so little time, lol.
I need to get to Rebel of the Sands soon!
I’m glad I’m not the only one who hasn’t read Rebel yet.
Oh gosh, there are so many books (especially series) that I said I want to read and just haven’t had time to get to. I have read Murder on the Orient Express and Hunted though – the first was a good one, and the second wasn’t my most favorite, but it’s not too bad.
-Lauren
I think mixed reviews are why I haven’t gotten to Hunted yet. It sounds so good that I just can’t bring myself to take it off my TBR, lol.
Three of my favorites are on your list Suzanne! And I darken, rebel of the sand and Throne of Glass 😉
I’m glad to hear you enjoyed those three books. I’ll have to make a point to get to those soon. 🙂
I feel you on this one, I have the biggest hall of shame. Ink & Bone is a really great series, and The Crown’s Game was also one I really enjoyed. Hope you finally get a chance to read these!
I’ve had several people tell me now that The Crown’s Game is excellent so that will end up being one of my winter reads.
Tell Me Three Things is such an enjoyable contemporary and I cannot say enough about And I Darken. I haven’t got a chance to continue the series, but this first book was amazing. If you pick them up, I hope you enjoy!
I’m glad to hear this about both of these books, especially Tell Me Three Things since I now have the audio book and plan to listen to that later this week.
I only read Ink and Bone from this list, and I love it. The Great Library may be my favourite YA series.
I’m really glad to hear how much you enjoyed this series. 🙂
Rebel of the Sands has also been on my TBR for a long time! I really need to get around to it!
I’m glad I’m not the only one who hasn’t gotten to it yet!
Great list! Good luck!
Thanks, I probably need it, lol!
I listened to the audio book of Tell Me Three Things last year and enjoyed it so much. It dealt a lot with family relationships and grief and of course there was some romance. 🙂 I liked it so much I ended up buying a physical copy for my bookshelf. The Crown’s Game was entertaining – and, coincidentally, another audio book. Unfortunately the reviews for the follow-up were lukewarm so I haven’t read that one yet.
I’m glad to hear that about Tell Me Three Things because I just checked the audiobook out from my library.
Most of these are on my list too! Though I did actually read Tell Me Three Things this year. And I own several of them too, so really no excuses, just haven’t gotten there yet.
I hear ya. So many books, so little time!
My list is outrageous and I wouldn’t know where to start😬
Mine is outrageous too. It was hard to just put 10 books on my list of shame, lol.
ToG is one of my favorite series. At least if you start it now, you can read all the way to end, no waiting. TDC is another favorite. And Tell Me Three Things was so wonderful! I hope you get to some of these, because there are some great ones on your list.
I’m glad to hear you say that because I just borrowed the audiobook for Tell Me Three Things from the library. 🙂
I have several of these on my list, too, and have for such a long time. Like you, I really want to read them! Like with Lily and the Octopus, the author has a new book coming out, and I have the ARC, so I’m sure I’ll get to the newer one first. I like your plan of one book a month.
I didn’t even realize Rowley had another book coming out. Well, that’s certainly motivation for me to get my butt in gear, lol.
Haha, I love the title of this post. I need to read more Agatha Christie, too. I hope you enjoy all these!
I’ve enjoyed all of the Agatha Christie books I’ve read so far so I really have no excuse as to why this one is still on my unread shelf.
I have a whole stack of books I really, really mean to read. And I never read them. I need to look and see what’s in that stack lol.
That’s what I did and was basically like “OMG, you guys are still sitting here unread? How?!” LOL!
I need to read Orient Express. And Three Dark Crowns is a fun series- I hope you like it. 🙂
I think Tell Me Three Things looks like a good read too.
I keep hearing good things about Three Dark Crowns so I’m really looking forward to diving in sometime soon.
Ha! Yes, I know this feeling. I also have a list of books I’ve been saying I’d read for years but still haven’t. I have read Rebel of the Sands though! It was pretty good!
I’ve had several people say that Rebel of the Sands is amazing so I think I’m going to try to squeeze that one in before the end of the year.
Oh honey, I know how you feel. I have so many books I want to read, and I am still trying to get to them. I still feel so bad, but then I remember there are so many good ones to look forward to and that helps a bit 😉 (Rebel of the Sands is so good though!)
I think Rebel of the Sands has gotten the most positive comments so far so I want to try to squeeze that one in before the end of the year if I can.
MURDER ON THE ORIENT EXPRESS is on my backlist as well! 🙂 I keep putting it off because I really didn’t like the movie… lol!
Haha! I know what you means. I’ve had the movie sitting on my DVR for two months now and still haven’t gotten all the way through it.
This is a great list, and I hope you enjoy Rebel of the Sands as much as I did:)
Thanks, I hope so too. If I have time, I’m going to try to squeeze it in before the end of the year.
I personally don’t think you are missing out with Throne of Glass and Inke and Bone but that is my unpopular opinion haha.
I really enjoyed Rebel of the Sands but completely lost interest in the sequels.
I’ll be curious to see if I end up on the unpopular opinion side of things as well, lol.
We read so much that the lists just seem to keep growing and growing and growing, right?(lol) I’ve murder on the Orient Express, but never had the opportunity to read it either. Thanks to you, i’m adding it to the list too!(lol) Hugs and happy Saturday! RO
Thanks, Happy Saturday to you too!
Throne of Glass is the only one on this list that I’ve read. However, I did buy And I Darken and Three Dark Crowns when they were on sale for $1.99 earlier this year on Amazon.com. I guess I’ll have to get to them at some point too.
I bought those two when they were on sale as well and then promptly forgot that I owned them, lol.
I LOVED Tell Me Three Things so I highly recommend 🙂 And of course Throne of Glass, but that’s such a huge series, so I’d start with the standalones like Tell Me Three Things 😉
I’m really glad to hear you enjoyed Tell Me Three Things. I have the ebook book but just checked the audio out of the library so I can listen to it instead.
