Can’t Wait Wednesday – Naomi Novik’s SPINNING SILVER
“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted at Breaking the Spine, which encourages fellow bloggers to spotlight upcoming releases that we’re excited about. It is a meme that I have loved participating in for over a year now, but as Jill is no longer actively posting, from now on I’ll just be linking to Can’t Wait Wednesday, hosted by Tressa, which is a spinoff of the original WoW meme.

My selection for this week is SPINNING SILVER by Naomi Novik. I’ve not read anything by Novik before, although I’m constantly hearing great things about her novel Uprooted. As most of you know, I’m kind of obsessed with retellings and I’ve never read a Rumplestilskin retellng before so reading the synopsis for Spinning Silver has me all kinds of excited! (And look at that amazing cover too!) I also just picked up a copy of Uprooted because the e-book is on sale at Amazon so I’m all the more excited to dive into Novik’s stories.
SPINNING SILVER by Naomi Novik
Publication Date: July 10, 2018
From Goodreads:
Miryem is the daughter and granddaughter of moneylenders… but her father isn’t a very good one. Free to lend and reluctant to collect, he has loaned out most of his wife’s dowry and left the family on the edge of poverty–until Miryem steps in. Hardening her heart against her fellow villagers’ pleas, she sets out to collect what is owed–and finds herself more than up to the task. When her grandfather loans her a pouch of silver pennies, she brings it back full of gold.
But having the reputation of being able to change silver to gold can be more trouble than it’s worth–especially when her fate becomes tangled with the cold creatures that haunt the wood, and whose king has learned of her reputation and wants to exploit it for reasons Miryem cannot understand.

I’d love to hear what upcoming book releases you’re waiting on this Wednesday? Leave me your link in the comments below and I’ll stop by and check out your CWW selection for this week. 🙂
I think this will be one great read!
I hope so!
this one is new to me. I am adding it to my trb. looks really good.
Hope you enjoy it!
I have not read anything by the author wither but man have I been hearing so much about this one!
Right? I think it’s going to be super popular when it comes out.
That is a very cool cover, and I enjoy retellings as well, so I’ll have to keep my eye out!
I love the cover too!
Retelling are such a thing now but this is the first I’ve seen of a Rumplestilskin retelling. Pretty unique. And this looks like it’s a stand-alone? Totally rare for a YA fantasy! (I’m currently feeling series burn-out, can you tell? 🙂
I hear you on the series burn out. I’ve been reading a lot of stand alones lately for the same reason.
I LOVED Uprooted and I’m dying to read this as well! Great choice, and the wait isn’t too long😊
I’m really glad to hear you enjoyed Uprooted. It sounds so good that I just couldn’t resist buying it this week when I saw Amazon had it on sale.
Seems like I always see this several times a week each Wednesday. It’s going to be one popular book!
I think so too!
This sounds fun and also seems to have some possible fairy tale connections. Enjoy it!
Laura 🙂
Thanks!
This sounds great! I also haven’t read Uprooted but like you I’ve heard great things. I tried Uprooted as an audiobook but the narrator was terrible so eventually I’ll just have to pick up the hardcover.
Thanks for sharing,

Ugh, that’s a bummer about the narrator on the Uprooted audiobook. Narrators can really make or break an audiobook. I think I’ll just be sticking with the ebook.
I loved Spinning Silver! I was really excited about a Rumpelstiltskin retelling as well, and I think it was executed wonderfully, super magical. I hope you like it and Uprooted as well when you read them!
I’m so glad to hear you read and loved this one 🙂
Ooo… I love the sound of this one. I really enjoy her writing – particularly Uprooted! So I am waiting to see if I will get lucky and an approval for this book… This is definitely going on my wishlist.
I’m really glad to hear that you enjoyed Uprooted. I’m waiting to see if I get approved for Spinning Silver as well. Thankfully it’s not a long wait to read it if I don’t.
I havn’t seen a Rumpelstilskin retelling before either! … i also think i definitely need to onow more about this author’s other work!
Right? I always hear great things. Glad I don’t have to wait long for this one. Just a few more weeks!
the cover for this is gorgeous and the book itself seems wonderful, I really need to read her first book maybe this fall
I’m hoping to get to it this summer.
This does look good. I haven’t read Novik yet either but her stuff’s supposed to be pretty good I guess! Uprooted gets a lot of raves!
Yeah, I keep hearing good things about her books.
I loved Uprooted and am so excited about this one. I hope it is as good as it sounds!
I’m really glad to hear you enjoyed Uprooted 🙂
Yaaassss! I LOVED Uprooted. Really loved it. And I’m so excited about this one! I’ve started the Temeraire series but only got through the first two books so far. I really need to find time to get back to that!
I hope you enjoy Uprooted as much as I did!
I’m really glad to hear you loved Uprooted. I’m excited to get to it, hopefully this summer 🙂
OMG, SUZANNE. I actually just finished reading this one and it’s AMAZING. It’s atmospheric, magical–but it’s 95% descriptions and 5% dialogue, if you’re into that kind of thing. xD

Yay, so glad to hear you loved this one. You’re the first person I’ve heard from that has already read it.
I’ve heard amazing things about Uprooted too. I actually didn’t realize this was a Rumplestiltskin retelling—not you have me wanting this for sure!
If you read it, I hope you enjoy it!
