Can’t Wait Wednesday – Spotlight on BRUJA BORN by Zoraida Cordova

“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted at Breaking the Spine, which encourages fellow bloggers to spotlight upcoming releases that we’re excited about.  It is a meme that I have  loved participating in for over a year now, but as Jill is no longer actively posting, from now on I’ll just be linking to Can’t Wait Wednesday, hosted by Tressa, which is a spinoff of the original WoW meme.

My selection for this week is BRUJA BORN by Zoraida Cordova.  Labyrinth Lost, the first book in this series, was such an amazing read that I just can’t wait to get my hands on the second book in the series, which follows one of the other sisters in the Mortiz family.  I remember reading last year that the author created this series because she wanted a Latina version of the TV series Charmed so I like the idea that each book will focus on a different sister.

BRUJA BORN by Zoraida Cordova

Publication Date:   June 5, 2018

From Goodreads:

Three sisters. One spell. Countless dead.

Lula Mortiz feels like an outsider. Her sister’s newfound Encantrix powers have wounded her in ways that Lula’s bruja healing powers can’t fix, and she longs for the comfort her family once brought her. Thank the Deos for Maks, her sweet, steady boyfriend who sees the beauty within her and brings light to her life.

Then a bus crash turns Lula’s world upside down. Her classmates are all dead, including Maks. But Lula was born to heal, to fix. She can bring Maks back, even if it means seeking help from her sisters and defying Death herself. But magic that defies the laws of the deos is dangerous. Unpredictable. And when the dust settles, Maks isn’t the only one who’s been brought back…

I really enjoyed Labyrinth Lost and am eager to see where Cordova is going with this story. I am also a fan of sibling series. I like that each book features a different sister, while still telling the overall story.

I’ve been side-eyeing this book. I do like the sound of it but wasn’t sure if I was supposed to have read the others in the series first.
    Hope you enjoy.

This is only the second book in the series so you’re not far behind, but yeah I think I’d probably read Labyrinth Lost before I tried to read this one.

I was thinking the same thing about the covers. This one is lovely too, but it’s definitely not at all similar to Labyrinth Lost’s cover.

I’m SO curious now and I’ll have to put my hands on Labyrinth Lost, especially after reading your comment! I mean, a sort of Alice in Wonderland vibe? I’m in!
Thanks for sharing, here’s my WoW 🙂

I really like the premise and managed to miss the start of this series – that said, right now I’m a tad swamped… But I will keep an eye on this one and in the meantime, I hope you enjoy it!

Whew, this sounds like it’ll me emotionally spent and wanting more to be honest — and book 2 already? I wish I could stop being surprised at how quickly books are coming out, but I’m always, always surprised lol

It always surprises me too. I think back to just a few years ago even and it seemed like the wait between books in a series was years.

I really love that aspect of it too, especially since I definitely wanted to know more about the other two sisters while reading Labyrinth Lost.
