Top Ten Tuesday – Books I Love That Were Written Over Ten Years Ago
Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together. Top Ten Tuesday has been one of my favorite memes ever since I started blogging, so huge thanks to Jana for taking over the hosting duties!
This week’s TTT topic is Books I Love That Were Written Over Ten Years Ago. I think I focused mainly on classics the last time we did a similar topic so I decided to go a different and somewhat convoluted route this time. I went back eleven years to 2011, and counted backwards from there to 2002, figuring out what my favorite book published in each of those years was. It was an interesting journey for me to see how long I’ve had eclectic reading tastes and jumped from genre to genre.

9. THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA by Lauren Weisberger (2003)
10. THE NANNY DIARIES by Emma McLaughlin and Nicola Kraus (2002)

I have read and enjoyed all of these (except the Stieg Larsson book).

This is a great list! We have a couple in common. I loved The Nanny Diaries, and My Sister’s Keeper was my first Jodi Picoult book!
It was my first Picoult book too!
I haven’t read many of these books, but I did see the movies.

I had The Kite Runner on my list today too and another one of Picoult’s books as well. I had no idea The Night Circus was written so long ago! It feels more recent because of how popular it is and how I keep seeing it being circulated on all the platforms esp. Instagram! 😂 Great list!

I can’t believe it, but I’ve actually read all of these! And loved them all. Room is probably my least favorite of the bunch, and just seeing The Nanny Diaries makes me want to grab my copy and reread it😁

Fun twist of the topic, Suzanne. 🙂 I remember loving that Stieg Larsson series. I was so invested and eagerly waited for each new book. My husband continued the series even after Larsson died and someone else continued the series, but I didn’t.

I didn’t continue it after Larsson died either. I saw so many mixed reviews that I just decided to stop with Larsson’s final book and consider it a trilogy.
The Night Circus, the Book Thief and The Hunger Games made my list this week too – though it feels hard to believe they were already released so long ago!

Great list and fantastic picks. We have The Hunger Games in common this week, but also a Harry Potter book and I almost added The Night Circus and The Girl With A Dragon Tattoo to my list.

Oh, I really should read The Book Thief. The Night Circus and Harry Potter are excellent choices for today. I decided to narrow the topic down a bit, so I went with books that are older than I am for my list.

I’ve noticed my tastes have changed or move around too over the course of years. Even blogging- looking back at my early years (that makes me feel old) I was reading such different stuff! Anyway- The Hunger games- yes! And I haven’t read Night Circus but I did read her The Starless sea recentloy- that was pretty wild.

Me too, especially since it’s still so popular and shows up all over Instagram.
What a clever way to parse the theme! This is the first list that I’ve read all but 1 of the books – Nanny Diaries is the outlier. I’m hard pressed to come up with one of these as a favorite; they’re all really good. And reading a variety of genres is terrific – I read the same way. 🙂
