Top Ten Tuesday – 2021 Releases I Was Excited to Read But Didn’t Get To
Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together. Top Ten Tuesday has been one of my favorite memes ever since I started blogging, so huge thanks to Jana for taking over the hosting duties!
This week’s TTT topic is Most Recent Additions to 2021 Releases I Was Excited to Read But Didn’t Get To. I’m forever behind on new releases I want to read so I could probably easily do a list three times this long, but I restrained myself and picked ten I truly wished I could have squeezed in last year.
2021 Releases I Was Excited to Read But Didn’t Get To
1. THE GUNCLE by Steven Rowley
2. HERE’S TO US by Becky Albertalli and Adam Silvera
3. YOU’LL BE THE DEATH OF ME by Karen McManus
4. EMPIRE OF THE VAMPIRE by Jay Kristoff
5. SURVIVE THE NIGHT by Riley Sager
7. SIX CRIMSON CRANES by Elizabeth Lim
8. IN THE WILD LIGHT by Jeff Zentner
9. THE SECRET BRIDESMAID by Katy Birchall
10. THE LADIES OF THE SECRET CIRCUS by Constance Sayers

I tried to read The Guncle last year, but it just didn’t work for me. I wasn’t in a great place mentally to read a book dripping with grief (don’t let the cover fool you!). I want to give it another try, though, as I’ve heard great things about it.

Thanks for the head’s up on that. I’ll have to make sure I’m in a good place when I finally read it.
Don’t get me started!
LOL!
I’ve heard lots of great things about The Guncle and I thought Float Plan was fun.
Yeah, I haven’t seen any bad reviews for The Guncle yet. Very excited to finally get to that one.
I accidentally ended up with two special editions of Empire of the Vampire so I made myself read it while it was still being talked about…otherwise it’s so chunky I would have probably put it off forever. I did like it but I always think long books should be shorter!
The fact that it’s such a brick is why I keep pushing it aside even though I really want to read it, lol.
I’ve seen Empire of the Vampire on lots of lists today, including mine. I hope we all get to read it this year😁
I’m pretty determined to get to that one and a couple of other Kristoff books I have on my shelf.
I just finished Float Plan and thought it was a really good read, I hope you enjoy it!
Yay, so glad to hear this. 🙂
I haven’t read Six Crimson Cranes yet either.
Glad I’m not the only one. I just ran out of time.
Empire Of The Vampire is on my list too. All the other books on your list are unfamiliar but I will check them out. Happy reading!
Happy reading to you too!
The Guncle looks awesome!
Here is our Top Ten Tuesday.
I think so too. 🙂
I didn’t love Survive the Night, but I absolutely adored The Float Plan. Happy reading! 🙂
I saw some mixed reviews for Survive the Night that have had me hesitant to pick it up.
Empire of the Vampire was such a beast of a book but its one I’m glad I was able to read last year – I look forward to your thoughts on it if/when you read it!
I’m pretty determined to read that one this year.
Here’s To Us is also a book I haven’t read yet, though I really want to! And while I’m not usually into thrillers, I do want to try Survive The Night. Hope you’ll enjoy all of these when you get to them!
Thank you!
My audio hold for The Guncle just came up on Overdrive this morning and I pushed back the hold on it… again. I don’t know if I’ve lost interest or if I’m just not in the mood. Maybe we’ll both get to it soon!
I really hope to. I’ve only seen great reviews for it.
I forgot all about THE LADIES OF THE SECRET CIRCUS! That’s one I wanted to read last year as well. Oops. Hopefully, I’ll get to it this year. I hope you enjoy it and all these others!
Happy TTT!

Thank you!
I read half of those books, and I vote yes for them. Seriously, Guncle, Death, Float Plan, Bridesmaid, and Wild Light were all 4.5-5 stars for me. So good! I heard amazing things about the Kristoff book too.
This makes me even more excited to read all of these. The Guncle is high priority for me.
I really had hoped to get to THE LADIES OF THE SECRET CIRCUS this past year but am going to make it a priority to read it this year. Six Crimson Cranes is another one I really want to read. I hope you get a chance to read these!
Thanks! Hopefully we’ll both get to those titles in 2022. 🙂
Well I didn’t get to any of these either. lol
LOL. So many books, so little time to read them all. 🙂
You’ll Be the Death of Me- SAME! I was going to read it the hot minute it came out and I still haven’t!
Survive the Night was recommended to me also.
I’ve been so bad about McManus’ books lately. I still need to read The Cousins too.
We match on Empire of the Vampires and Six Crimson Cranes! Great list!
Hopefully we’ll both get those read this year. 🙂
Six Crimson Cranes has such a stunning cover, but not too intrigued by the description. Hope you’ll like it. Happy reading! My TTT https://readwithstefani.com/2022-resolutions-and-goals/
Happy reading to you as well!
I adored Six Crimson Cranes and I hope you do too! I also want to read The Guncle, EOTV and The Secret Bridesmaid! I hope you enjoy all these books whenever you get to them 😊
I really hope I’ll be able to get to Six Crimson Cranes soon. I’ve seen so many wonderful reviews for it.
Well Suzanne I hope you’ll give EotV and The Guncle a chance this year! 🙂
Both of those are top priority for me. 🙂
I really loved The Secret Bridesmaid! I own The Guncle and need to read that one soon.
I’m glad to hear you enjoyed that one. It sounds so good. 🙂
