🤠 REVIEW - CHASING THE WILD 🤠

Author - Elliott Rose

First Published - 6/22/24, Re-Released 9/30/25 Deluxe Limited Edition

I’ve been in my spicy cowboy romance era for a while now so I couldn’t resist reading Chasing the Wild, the first book in the Crimson Ridge series. Chasing the Wild is an age-gap, forbidden romance that follows Layla Birch, a young woman who is studying to be a veterinarian but is down on her luck, thanks to her ex taking a loan out in her name and then defaulting on it. She heads to Devil’s Peak Ranch to confront her loser ex and instead meets her ex’s ruggedly handsome father, Colton Wilder. Layla is immediately attracted to Colton, and the feeling is mutual. Colton is furious with his son for stealing money from Layla, but at the same time, doesn’t want to hurt his son, so he deems Layla off limits. He does help her though, giving her a place to stay and a job tending to the animals on his ranch so that she can get the hours she needs to finish up her certification. All carefully laid plans go out the window, however, when a big winter storm blows in and snows the two of them in together.

I enjoyed this one! The forbidden angle really hooked me right away because there’s just so much tension and pining. They want each other so badly but Colton has just started to mend his relationship with his son and doesn’t want to jeopardize that. Colton and Layla just have this insane chemistry and they just really understand one another. Once they’re blocked off from the outside world, it becomes impossible to resist the temptation and oh boy, the spice starts spicing!

I was very invested in Colton and Layla as a couple and rooting for them to find a way to get what they wanted without costing Colton his relationship with his son. I thought the conclusion was satisfying and look forward to reading more from Elliott Rose.

Perfect for fans of:

🍁 Review - IT’S DIFFERENT THIS TIME 🍁

Author - Joss Richard

Pub Date - 9/30/25

There’s something magical about New York City in the fall and Joss Richard perfectly captures that magic in her debut novel, It’s Different This Time. This is a second chance romance between June and Adam, two former roommates who used to rent a brownstone in NYC until a falling out sent them in different directions. Years later, an unusual circumstance has the pair somehow inheriting their former brownstone and now they must come together to figure out what to do about the property, which is now worth millions.

I really enjoyed this book so much! Richard’s vivid descriptions made me feel like I was really strolling the streets of the West Village in the fall, soaking up the cozy vibes. I also loved that June and Adam’s time together when they first lived in the brownstone is revealed to the reader in flashbacks so that we can watch them go from strangers to roommates to more and then see the lead-up to what drove them apart.

I loved both June and Adam and thought they were both such well-developed characters. They definitely each have their flaws, but it’s clear regardless of the awkwardness we see when they are first reunited, how much the chemistry and the feelings between them are still there. I really liked the two of them together and was rooting for them to finally have an honest, heart-to-heart discussion about what drove them apart before so that they could hopefully find their way to a happily ever after.

There’s so much to love in this book - the romance, the Broadway moments as June returns to the stage, the delicious foodie scenes from Adam who is a chef, plus the found family vibes, and so much more.

I look forward to reading more from this author!

🎧 The audiobook is narrated by Ferdelle Capistrano, who did a wonderful job of bringing every aspect of this beautiful second chance romance to life.

✨Review - THE BONE THIEF ✨

Author - Vanessa Lillie

Pub Date - 10/28/25

The Bone Thief is the follow-up novel to Vanessa Lillie’s Blood Sisters, where readers first met Syd Walker, a Cherokee archeologist who works for the Bureau of Indian Affairs.

In The Bone Thief, Syd is called in to investigate when centuries-old skeletal remains are found on the grounds of a summer camp where the land was originally owned by the local Narragansett Tribe. Even though the archeological site is secured overnight, the remains are missing by the time Syd returns the next morning. Not only that, but a local Native teen has also gone missing.

As Syd investigates both disappearances, she interacts with privileged campers and their wealthy parents, most of whom belong to the Founders Society, an elite club with roots dating back to Colonial America. They claim ancestral rights to this land, even though the tribal community strongly disagrees. As Syd digs deeper into what turns out to be a series of disappearances and a history of violence against the Narragansett tribe, the more the clues lead her to the Founders Society and therefore the town’s most powerful citizens.

This was such a great book. It’s clearly well researched and it reads like part thriller, part history, so it’s both an educational read and a haunting, twisty thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat. It also manages to pack an emotional punch as it reveals the injustices against indigenous people. Syd is a fantastic protagonist and just an all around well developed character. I loved getting to know more about her in this book, including the glimpses into her personal life since her wife is pregnant. I love Syd’s quiet strength and the way she pours her whole heart into uncovering the truth and finding those who have gone missing. She’s a very easy character to root for.

🎧Carolina Hoyos narrates the audiobook & does a wonderful job bringing Syd to life and capturing the suspenseful, atmospheric quality of Lillie’s writing.

🧡 Review - LAST ON THE LIST 🧡

Author - Amy Daws

Original Pub Date - 6/15/22; Re-release - 9/30/25

I’m a sucker for a single dad x nanny romance so I just had to read Last on the List even though it’s the fifth book in Amy Daws’ Wait with Me series, and I haven’t read the first four books. Thankfully it worked great as a standalone and I really enjoyed it!

Millionaire CEO and single dad Max Fletcher desperately needs a nanny to help out with his young daughter. Cassandra “Cozy” Barlow has basically taken a year off from her life and adopted a “why do more when you can do less” attitude, but when her sister asks her to interview for a nanny position with one of her high maintenance clients, she agrees to go. While Cozy’s “do less” attitude does not impress Max at all, his daughter Everly instantly wants to be best friends with her so Max hires Cozy.

I really enjoyed both main characters and I loved how Cozy won Max over, even though he initially hires her just to make his daughter happy. Max realizes that there’s so much more to Cozy than meets the eye, and I think Cozy realizes the same thing about her grumpy millionaire boss. I loved all of the tension as Max and Cozy try to fight their obvious attraction to one another. They have amazing chemistry, and I thoroughly enjoyed watching them navigate their evolving relationship. As much as I enjoyed the romantic angle of the story, I have to admit that Cozy mentoring Everly and helping her grow and be truly happy was my favorite part of the book. Everly was one of those kids whose mom signed her up for every possible activity, so she was constantly on the go and wasn’t really enjoying any of it. Cosy’s careful outlook on life was exactly what Everly needed and watching the two of them together just put a smile on my face.

This was my first time reading Amy Daws and I’m excited to read more from her!

Perfect for fans of:

✨Single Dad x Nanny
✨Grumpy MMC
✨Strong, Sassy, Plus-Sized FMC
✨Opposites Attract

❄️ Review - ANNE OF AVENUE A ❄️

Author - Audrey Bellezza & Emily Harding

Pub Date - 10/28/25

Anne of Avenue A is the third book in the For the Love of Austen series. A contemporary retelling of Jane Austen’s Persuasion, Anne of Avenue A is a second chance romance that is set in NYC around the holidays.

The story follows Anne Elliot, a young woman who is a bit too self-sacrificing for her own good. Freddie Wentworth, the love of Anne’s life, had the career opportunity of a lifetime in Argentina and desperately wanted Anne to go with him. Moving to Argentina didn’t align with Anne’s own career plan, and afraid he would pass up the opportunity to stay with her, Anne dumps him.

Fast forward eight years and Freddie is back. Not only is he back, but he is wildly successful and has unknowingly rented out Anne’s childhood apartment. Anne is still living in the same building and as soon as they see each other again, it’s obvious that the old chemistry is still there, although the old wounds reopen as well.

I love a good forced proximity story and this one is well written. Anne and Freddie have numerous awkward encounters in their comings and goings around the building, but that awkwardness soon gives way to a guarded friendship and more. I loved the chemistry between these two characters and the dialogue was just fantastic. I was really rooting for Anne to put herself first for a change and go after what she wants and really enjoyed her growth as the story progressed. There’s also a great cast of secondary characters who add a layer of fun to the story.

If you enjoy charming romantic reads about forgiveness and second chances, coupled with a little NYC holiday magic, this is the book for you.

I had to do an immersive read when I saw Teddy Hamilton and Brittany Pressley narrated the audiobook and, as always, they were fantastic, especially when it came to delivering those heartfelt moments between Anne and Freddie. They had my whole heart!

FALLEN CITY by Adrienne Young

Pub Date: 11/4/2025

Thanks to @WednesdayBooks @saturdaybooks and @adrienneyoungbooks for this beautiful #gifted copy of Fallen City.

Readers, meet your new obsession!

Fallen City is described as “an epic love story that defies the Gods”, a Greco-Roman fantasy with forbidden romance to forced enemies, perfect for fans of A Fate Inked in Blood or The Will of the Many.

I just started reading Fallen City today and I’m already obsessed!

Synopsis:

In the great walled city of Isara, political turmoil ignites a rebellion one hundred years in the making. But when a legionnaire falls in love with a Magistrate’s daughter, their love will threaten the fate of the city and the will of the gods.

Luca Matius has one purpose—to carry on the family name, maintaining its presence in the Forum once his powerful and cruel uncle dies. But his noviceship with the city’s Philosopher places him in the middle of a catastrophe that will alter the destiny of his people.

Maris Casoeria was raised amidst the strategic maneuvers of the Citadel’s inner workings, and she knows what her future holds—a lifetime of service to a corrupt city. But her years of serving as a novice to the last Priestess who possesses the stolen magic of the Old War has made her envision a different kind of future for the city. When she meets Luca, a fated chain of events is set into motion that will divinely entangle their lives.

As a secret comes to light and throws the city into chaos, Luca and Maris hatch a plot to create a calculated alliance that could tip the scales of power. But when an execution forces Luca to become the symbol of rebellion, he and Maris are thrown onto opposite sides of a holy war. As their fates diverge, they learn they are at the center of a story the gods are writing. And even if they can find their way back to each other, there may be nothing left.

Happy Halloween Eve! Today I’m sharing my thoughts on some audiobooks I’ve listened to this spooky season.

PLAY NICE by Rachel Harrison (Thanks to @prhaudio for the #gifted ALC)

Pub Date - 9/9/25

I love Rachel Harrison’s books and Play Nice is my new favorite from her. I loved that this book is part haunted house story, part family drama. It’s a dark story, but has some humor as well, particularly Clio’s snarky personality, which I found very entertaining. I loved the spooky atmosphere of the house, and the flashbacks to when Clio, her mom, and sisters lived in the house. Everyone had always assumed Clio’s mom was imagining the house was haunted, and the path to the truth is a wild, messy, ride for Clio as an adult. Alex Finke and Natasha Soudek narrate and the way they set the tone and bring Harrison’s characters to life made this a binge-listen for me. So good! ⭐️⭐️⭐⭐️⭐️️
️

HOT FOR SLAYER by Ali Hazelwood (Purchased)

Pub Date - 9/23/25

This novella is a forbidden romance between Lazio, a vampire slayer who has amnesia, & Aethelthryth (Ethel), the vampire he has been hunting for centuries. Ethel lets Lazio crash on her couch since he has no one else who can help him, and the two of them start to bond over sudoku puzzles. The two of them were so cute together, and their obvious mutual attraction had me eager to see what would happen if Lazio got his memory back. This was such a fun listen and Nina Yndis and Maxim Reston were great narrators, especially the banter and the yearning between Lazio & Ethel. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

BURY OUR BONES IN THE MIDNIGHT SOIL by V.E. Schwab (Libby)

Pub Date - 6/10/25

This is a sapphic vampire story that follows three vampires and how their lives intertwine over the course of a few centuries. Schwab’s writing is poetic and atmospheric, & the way these characters are developed made me feel like I really knew them. There are also themes of hunger and feminine rage that sucked me in. The narrators were Julia Whelan, one of my all time favorites, Marisa Calin, and Katie Leung, and they were all just perfect. I was mesmerized listening to their performances. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐ 💫
