About Me

me

Hi, I'm Suzanne. Proofreader by day, book blogger by night, devourer of books 24/7. My reading tastes: Basically you name it, I probably like it. I read a lot of contemporary and historical, both adult and YA, and I've also been enjoying more and more fantasy lately. Hobbies include: buying and hoarding of books, rambling about books to anyone who will listen, and trying to recommend books to my family and friends whether they are readers or not - because seriously, how can you not love to read books?

🩵Review - FOREVER NEVER 🩵

Author - Lucy Score

Pub Date - 3/4/21

Forever Never is a small town, grumpy-sunshine romance set on Mackinac Island. There’s a hint of forbidden romance in that Remi should probably be off limits to Brick for so many reasons even though he’s attracted to her - she’s his brother’s former high school sweetheart, his boss’s daughter, and his ex-wife’s best friend. Remi has had a crush on Brick forever though so she’s not going to make it easy for him.

I really enjoyed this book! Brick and Remi had great chemistry and I was quickly invested in their very complicated relationship, both past and present. I also liked that this book had a bit of suspense to it. Remi has returned to the island after years of living elsewhere and when she returns home, trouble follows her. Brick works in law enforcement and is super protective. He senses that something is off even though Remi won’t tell anyone what is going on. I ate that storyline up! There’s also plenty of fun, flirty banter and steamy scenes once Brick and Remi give in to their mutual attraction. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

💜 Review - PLAYBOOK 💜

Author - Rebecca Jenshak

Pub Date - 7/25/24

Playbook is the second book in the Holland Brothers series. This one works as a standalone and it’s a fake dating, grumpy-sunshine football romance.

I loved the main characters, London and Brogan, and thought they had amazing chemistry. I thought the author having them meet because London is assigned Brogan’s former P.O. box and starts his receiving his fanmail (mostly panties) because Brogan forgot to forward his mail was so creative.

I loved the dynamic of their relationship as they become friends first and then came up with the fake dating arrangement. It was clear how much they grew to care about one another, & they also had amazing banter, so it was just so easy to root for them as a couple. This book also had a great found family dynamic with the Holland family treating Brogan like he is one of their own.

I enjoyed this book & look forward to continuing the series! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

✨Review - ONCE UPON A TIME IN DOLLYWOOD ✨

Author - Ashley Jordan

Pub Date - 8/5/25

Once Upon a Time in Dollywood is Ashley Jordan’s debut novel and it is a beautifully written romance that also explores infertility, mental health, grief, and some other heavy topics. As the author states in a note at the beginning of the book, this is not a light-hearted romance. It’s filled with raw emotion and flawed characters who will have you rooting for them to find their way to each other and to a happily ever after.

Eve is a playwright living in NYC. Her professional life is thriving, but her personal relationships are a disaster. Therapy isn’t helping so she abruptly leaves NYC and heads to Gatlinburg, TN and the little cabin where her late grandmother used to live. Eve needs time alone and to get her next play written. Jamie, the single dad next door, is not part of her plan. Jamie has also come to his cabin in Gatlinburg to escape, tired from doing battle with his narcissistic ex custody of their 8 year old son. Neither Eve nor Jamie is looking for romance, but decide a steamy fling could be a nice distraction. But things of course get complicated when the fling gives way to real feelings.

I really loved how Jordan wrote both of these characters. Eve and Jamie are both so wounded from their other relationships, Eve probably more so than Jamie based on what we learn about her as the story progresses. Jamie falls for Eve first and I adored how patient he was with her because he recognized how much she had to work through before she was ready to fully be in a relationship with him.

I alternated between the print ARC and the ALC and quite enjoyed the narration of Matt Haynes and Adenrele Ojo. I thought they really highlighted the chemistry between Jamie and Eve and really brought out the emotional depth in the story.

This was just a beautiful story that had me feeling all the emotions and I can’t wait to read more from this author!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

🎧 Behind the Bench - Audiobook Narrator Reveal 🎧 Behind the Bench - Audiobook Narrator Reveal 🎧

Hey book friends! If you’re a lover of hockey romances and audiobooks, I’ve got some news to share you don’t want to miss!

Jillian Arly’s fantastic debut hockey romance, Behind the Bench, is now being published in audiobook format and the narrators, Anthony Palmini and Mollie Stark, were announced this morning.

I fell in love with Behind the Bench and its main characters, Ellie and Lincoln, when I read it earlier this summer and cannot wait to listen to it again on audio, especially with these two incredible narrators!

Stay tuned for release date details.

Behind the Bench is already available in paperback and on KU. Highly recommend checking it out if you’re into slow burn sports romances, enemies to lovers, and badass heroines!

❓QOTD - If you’re a fan of audiobooks, what’s one you’ve loved recently and what speed do you like to listen to them? If not, what are you currently reading?

AOTD - I love audiobooks and just finished Love at First Sighting, which was such a fun listen. 1.75x is my usual listening speed. Any faster and I can’t keep up! 😅

Thanks so much to @read_bloom for the gifted copy. As most Lucy Score fans probably know by now. Bloom Books has been re-releasing the Blue Moon small town romance series with new covers.

I hadn’t read the series when it was originally released so I’m reading it now as the books are being re-released and I’m obsessed with it! If you’re a Gilmore Girls fan, Blue Moon is like Stars Hollow, the quirkiest small town ever!

The first four books are already available for purchase with their new covers, and as of today, the fifth book in the series, Holding on to Chaos, is now officially available for purchase with its stunning new cover as well!

✨Holding On to Chaos Synopsis✨

Eva is a hot mess running from her past and doesn’t mind telling a fib or two to protect her secrets. It’s too bad that she moved to the nosiest small town in the world with Sheriff Sexy—the tall, built, human lie detector. He’s suddenly showing interest and treating every conversation like it’s an interrogation.

Donovan loves his nice, quiet, hippie town and he’s got some pretty strong feelings when it comes to a certain klutzy redhead, too. But she’s hiding something. Just when he starts to peel back those layers to get to the naked truth, the entire town loses its collective mind—and inhibitions—in what town elders identify as an astrological apocalypse.

Can he save the girl from her past and the town from itself?

❓QOTD - Have you ever bought a book based on the cover alone?

AOTD - My very first Lucy Score book was a cover purchase because it had a dog on the cover. 😂

✨ Review - HE FALLS FIRST ✨

Author - Jill Shalvis

Pub Date - 8/5/25

He Falls First is the first book in Jill Shalvis’ new Colburn Brothers small town romance series and it’s an absolute delight!

Penny is a chef and she has just left a bad relationship behind to return home to Star Falls, CA to help her grandma raise her 12 year old brother, Wyatt. All Penny wants to do is keep her little family going. She’s not interested in meeting new people, especially men. That is, until Ryder Colburn saves her from getting hit by a car.

The lore in Star Falls is that if you see three shooting stars, you will meet your soulmate. Ryder Colburn doesn’t really believe this, but after seeing the shooting stars and then meeting Penny, he has to wonder when he can’t stop thinking about her. He’s too busy for romance, running the family business and taking care of his ailing father, but finding it harder and harder to fight his attraction to Penny, especially when he’s hired to do some work on her house and they’re suddenly in close proximity.

I adored every character in this book, but Penny and Ryder really stole my heart. Both of them are dealing with some past trauma, hers from that relationship, his from emotional abuse doled out from the father he now has to care for. They both have a healing journey they need to take, so there are some emotional and vulnerable moments. Ryder, as the title states, falls first, but he has to work for it because Penny has built up some pretty big walls to protect herself. I loved how patient and sweet he was with her every step of the way. Their romance is a slow burn, which I thought was realistic considering how wounded both characters were at the start, and being able to watch them heal together made their own relationship worth the wait.

The ALC arrived just as I was finishing the ARC so I circled back to listen to that & was so impressed with the performance of Lila Winters and Sebastian York. They brought Penny & Ryder to life exactly how I had imagined them & I just loved that!

✨Review - Well, Actually✨

Author - Mazey Eddings

Pub Date - 8/5/25

I love Mazey Eddings’ spicy romcoms & her latest, Well, Actually, is just so much fun!

Eva Kitt has always dreamed of being a journalist but instead finds herself hosting Sausage Talk, a talk show where she interviews B-list celebrities over lukewarm hotdogs. It’s not her dream job & it doesn’t help matters that her ex, Rylie Cooper, is a beloved social media personality who has built a platform deconstructing toxic masculinity and teaching men how to be good partners.

One drunken night Eva decides to call Rylie out, posting a video on social media, pointing out that he was one of the most toxic men she ever met in college, not to mention, one of the worst sexual experiences. By the time Eva wakes up the next morning, her video has gone viral and her bosses are calling — not to fire her, but to see how they can capitalize on this viral moment by having Eva confront her ex live on Sausage Talk!

I was into the duo of Eva and Rylie from the moment they appear on her show. They have major black cat/golden retriever energy, which is just irresistible, and I thought it was so funny that all Rylie wants to do is make amends for his previous horrendous behavior while Eva wants to skewer him. They agree to a series of dates so that Rylie can prove to Eva that he has, in fact, grown up, and I ate these dates up because I could tell that even though Eva was trying to fight it every step of the way, she still has feelings for Rylie and was liking the man he has become and wondering if a second chance was possible for them.

I was listening to the audiobook & loving Ariel Crow’s spirited performance, especially the talk show clips, Eva’s sarcasm & the banter between Eva & Rylie, when the physical copy arrived and then I started both. 1.7x is my preferred listening speed & it was perfect for an immersive reading with the physical book.

Well, Actually is perfect for fans of enemies-to-lovers and/or second chance romance.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

🎧 Review - THE LOCKED WARD 🎧

Author - Sarah Pekkanen

Pub Date - 8/5/25

Sarah Pekkanen is one of my go-to authors when I want to read a twisty thriller and The Locked Ward did not disappoint!

I was so intrigued by the premise - imagine that a sister you never knew existed, a twin no less, reaches out to you from a prison psychiatric ward through her attorney and asks you to visit. This is the situation Amanda finds herself in at the beginning of the book and because her curiosity gets the better of her, Amanda heads to the prison to meet Georgia Cartwright for the first time.

There she learns Georgia has been locked away in an asylum for violent offenders while she awaits trial, accused of killing her other sister. The case has been all over the news because the Cartwright are a powerful family in the area, so Amanda can hardly believe that she is somehow connected to them. She is even more shocked when Georgia swears she is innocent and begs Amanda to help get her out of the asylum. Amanda isn’t sure she trusts Georgia but she knows she has to at least try to help her. Plus, this has opened up a whole can of worms about her own identity now that she knows she was separated from her own twin at birth. Trying to sort everything out regarding Georgia’s guilt or innocence leads Amanda down a twisty rabbit hole of secrets surrounding the Cartwright family.

I was pretty hooked on the story from that opening scene at the asylum, and I also enjoyed the switch in perspective from Amanda’s sleuthing chapters to the downright eerie chapters from Georgia’s perspective as she remained locked up hoping to be set free.

It’s definitely a slow burn in terms of pacing, but I was fully engaged both in finding out if Georgia was innocent or not, and in finding out why the twins were separated at birth so I was okay with the slower build up, especially since the payoff was so worth it.

January LaVoy narrates the 9hr, 4min audiobook & as always, she does such a fantastic job when it comes to building up the suspense and making me want to binge listen.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

📚 JULY WRAP-UP 📚 Hey book friends! I hope y 📚 JULY WRAP-UP 📚

Hey book friends! I hope your August is off to a great start. How was your July?

I had a pretty great month. I was on vacation for part of July & since I didn’t travel, it was a staycation that turned into a huge readathon!

I read 29 books. My hubby was also off, and he and I spent hours most days working on some projects out in our yard so my audiobook game was exceptionally strong those days, sometimes listening to a book and a half a day, and I knocked several older books off my TBR, including two 25 in 2025 challenge reads.

My photo features all of the physical copies I read, but I also read a few e-arcs and listened to several audiobooks as well.

While I read a lot during my vacation, I was lazy about writing and posting reviews so several reviews for books on this list will be hitting my feed this week.

🩷🎀 PINK WEDNESDAY 🎀🩷 On Wednesdays, w 🩷🎀 PINK WEDNESDAY 🎀🩷

On Wednesdays, we read pink!

Hey book friends! Today I’m sharing some gorgeous pink books that I have coming up soon on my TBR. Some are ARCs I’ve recently received from publishers and one is a book I’ve been wanting to read for a while now that I finally purchased when I saw a copy at my local indie bookstore a few weeks ago.

Books Featured:

🩷Not Part of the Plan by Lucy Score - This is the fourth book in the Blue Moon small town romance series, re-released with this beautiful new cover on 7/8/25. Thanks so much to @read_bloom for the gifted copy. I’m so excited to continue this series.

🎀Gabriela and His Grace by Liana De la Rosa - This is the final book in the Luna Sisters historical romance trilogy, and it releases on 8/26/25. This one follows the youngest and most rebellious Luna sister and I can’t wait to read it. Thanks so much to @berkleyromance for the free book!

🩷Sparks Fly is the adult debut from Zakiya N. Jamal and it follows a late bloomer who thought a visit to a sex club might jump start her love life, but instead makes an instant connection that turns her whole world upside down. This book releases 12/2/25. Also, a huge thanks to @berkleyromance for this free book.

🎀On Loverose Lane by Samantha Young is the first book in the Return to Dublin Street series. This book released back on 2/20/25 and I remember seeing rave reviews for it all over Booksta. It’s a witty, emotional and steamy fake-dating sports romance in which ambitious entrepreneur, Beth Carmichael, meets her match in the grumpy football captain who moves into the apartment above hers. It has been on my Amazon wishlist for months but when I saw a copy in my local Indie bookstore, I had to grab it up and support a small business.

❓QOTD - What’s an underhyped book that you wish got more attention?
🐶 Two for Tuesday - Doggone Delightful Series 🐶

Thanks to @readforeverpub #partner for the gifted finished copy of Pugs and Kisses! 🩷

Those who follow me probably remember I reviewed the e-arc and the ALC for Pugs and Kisses a couple of weeks ago & loved it. It was a ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ star read for me.

I hadn’t read Pardon My Frenchie, the first book in the Doggone Delightful series yet though, so I had to run out and grab a copy of that as well.

I ended up reading Pardon My Frenchie while I was on vacation and it was so fun! It’s an enemies-to-lovers romcom that follows Ashanti, the owner of Barkingham Palace, a dog boarding business, and Thaddeus, a grumpy former army officer, who is looking to open a bar that caters to former servicemen. Ashanti and Thaddeus butt heads from the start. First, when he buys the building she had been hoping to buy to expand her business. Then, second, when he shows up at her place of business to pick up Puddin’, the Standard Poodle who belongs to one of her favorite customers. Puddin’ also happens to be the boyfriend of Ashanti’s French Bulldog, Duchess.

Thaddeus was so gruff when he came in to get Puddin’, and it was so obvious that he couldn’t stand Puddin’, that Ashanti was really put off by him at first and so was I.

It turns out that Thaddeus is the grandson of Ashanti’s customer and because his grandmother has gone into an assisted living facility that doesn’t allow pets, he has moved into her house and agreed to keep Puddin’. His hostility toward Puddin’ is because he has beef with Puddin’ going way back to when he was a teen and lived with his grandmother and Puddin’ used to eat all of his stuff. 😅

Once Thaddeus starts to show his warmer side and that he would do anything for his grandmother, even make peace with Puddin’ (who of course was going to win him over anyway because he’s adorable) Ashanti and I both warmed up to him and the rest of the story was just filled with swoony goodness.

If you’re looking for some doggone cute romcoms, you can’t go wrong with this series. Pardon My Frenchie was a ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ star read for me as well.
