Can’t Wait Wednesday – ALL THESE MONSTERS by Amy Tintera

“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted at Breaking the Spine, which encourages fellow bloggers to spotlight upcoming releases that we’re excited about.  It is a meme that I have  loved participating in for over a year now, but as Jill is no longer actively posting, from now on I’ll just be linking to Can’t Wait Wednesday, hosted by Tressa at Wishful Endings, which is a spinoff of the original WoW meme.

My selection for this week is ALL THESE MONSTERS by Amy Tintera.  This will be the first book in a new science-fiction duology, and even though it doesn’t come out for almost a year, it sounds so amazing that I just couldn’t wait to share it.

Can’t Wait Wednesday – LIFE AND LIMB by Jennifer Roberson

My selection for this week is LIFE AND LIMB by Jennifer Roberson.  I have been in such a rut with my fantasy reading for months now. Everything I read just feels like more of the same old, same old.  This book, however, caught my eye because it just sounds so different from any other fantasy series I’ve read.  It has bikers, cowboys, gods and goddesses, demons, the minotaur, and more. You name it, it’s in there!

LIFE AND LIMB by Jennifer Roberson

Publication Date:  November 5, 2019

From Netgalley

A biker and a cowboy must stop the apocalypse in the first book of the Blood and Bone modern western fantasy series.

“The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn’t exist. —Baudelaire

He is, after all, the master of lies.  But is it lies when a man comes calling and says the End of Days is nearing?  That you must do everything within your power to stop it? Even when you have no powers. You are, after all, just a human.

Or do you have no powers? Are you just a human? And what the hell are you supposed to do about preventing hell-on-earth when you’re fresh out of prison, a biker ex-con who can’t even vote?

But the man who bears the message, the mission, is not a stranger shouting on a street corner while hoisting a sign promising death and damnation. He is someone you’ve known since boyhood, someone you trust implicitly. Someone who has never, ever lied to you. He’s Grandaddy.

But who is he really? And who are you? Are you truly a weapon meant to be wielded against the devil’s return? Against the End Times. The End of Days. Apocalypse and Armageddon.

Demons, Grandaddy says, are now loosed upon the earth in the first spasms of a most unholy war. Demons inhabit and make real the beasts and characters of fiction, folklore, fairytales. Gods and goddesses walk the earth. The minotaur. Murderers. A horseman without his head. Myth becomes reality. Legends—and lies—are truths.

And maybe the man you’ve always trusted isn’t entirely human.

My selection for this week is ALL THE BAD APPLES by Moira Fowley-Doyle.  I love to read books that feature topics that are very timely, and the fact that this topic is also controversial leads me to believe this is going to be a powerful story.  I’ve not read anything by this author before either so I’m looking forward to giving her book a try.

From Netgalley

Unflinching and gorgeously written, this feminist novel is important, timely, and a compulsive read. From the highly acclaimed author of the beloved The Accident Season comes an epic breakout novel examining the very topical and controversial issue of women’s sexual and reproductive rights, which has never been higher on the public’s radar.

When Deena’s wild older sister Mandy goes missing, presumed dead, Deena refuses to believe it’s true. Especially when letters start arriving–letters from Mandy–which proclaim that their family’s blighted history is not just bad luck or bad decisions but a curse, handed down to women from generation to generation. Mandy’s gone to find the root of the curse before it’s too late for Deena. But is the curse even real? And is Mandy still alive? Deena’s desperate, cross-country search for her beloved sister–guided only by the notes that mysteriously appear at each destination, leading her to former Magdalene laundry sites and more–is a love letter to women and a heartbreaking cathartic journey.

THE STARLESS SEA by Erin Morganstern

Publication Date:  November 5, 2019

From Goodreads:

From the New York Times bestselling author of The Night Circus, a timeless love story set in a secret underground world–a place of pirates, painters, lovers, liars, and ships that sail upon a starless sea.

Zachary Ezra Rawlins is a graduate student in Vermont when he discovers a mysterious book hidden in the stacks. As he turns the pages, entranced by tales of lovelorn prisoners, key collectors, and nameless acolytes, he reads something strange: a story from his own childhood. Bewildered by this inexplicable book and desperate to make sense of how his own life came to be recorded, Zachary uncovers a series of clues–a bee, a key, and a sword–that lead him to a masquerade party in New York, to a secret club, and through a doorway to an ancient library, hidden far below the surface of the earth. What Zachary finds in this curious place is more than just a buried home for books and their guardians–it is a place of lost cities and seas, lovers who pass notes under doors and across time, and of stories whispered by the dead. Zachary learns of those who have sacrificed much to protect this realm, relinquishing their sight and their tongues to preserve this archive, and also those who are intent on its destruction. Together with Mirabel, a fierce, pink-haired protector of the place, and Dorian, a handsome, barefoot man with shifting alliances, Zachary travels the twisting tunnels, darkened stairwells, crowded ballrooms, and sweetly-soaked shores of this magical world, discovering his purpose–in both the mysterious book and in his own life.

My selection for this week is THE LADY ROGUE by Jenn Bennett.  I’m a huge fan of Jenn Bennett’s contemporary novels but, even though I’m also a big fantasy reader, I’ve yet to try one of her fantasy novels.  I’m excited to remedy that with her upcoming release.  I love the The Last Magician meets A Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue comparison and that it had a Vlad the Impaler connection as well.

My selection for this week is THE GUINEVERE DECEPTION by Kiersten White.  The Legend of King Arthur has always fascinated me, so as soon as I saw this was a reimagining of the Arthurian legend, I knew it would be a must-read for me.  Plus, there’s a changeling, which sold it all the more for me.  According to Goodreads, this is also the first book of White’s Camelot Rising trilogy, which is also pretty exciting news.

THE GUINEVERE DECEPTION by Kiersten White

Publication Date:  November 5, 2019

From Goodreads:

From New York Times bestselling author Kiersten White comes a new fantasy series reimagining the Arthurian legend, set in the magical world of Camelot.

There was nothing in the world as magical and terrifying as a girl.

Princess Guinevere has come to Camelot to wed a stranger: the charismatic King Arthur. With magic clawing at the kingdom’s borders, the great wizard Merlin conjured a solution–send in Guinevere to be Arthur’s wife . . . and his protector from those who want to see the young king’s idyllic city fail. The catch? Guinevere’s real name–and her true identity–is a secret. She is a changeling, a girl who has given up everything to protect Camelot.

To keep Arthur safe, Guinevere must navigate a court in which the old–including Arthur’s own family–demand things continue as they have been, and the new–those drawn by the dream of Camelot–fight for a better way to live. And always, in the green hearts of forests and the black depths of lakes, magic lies in wait to reclaim the land. Arthur’s knights believe they are strong enough to face any threat, but Guinevere knows it will take more than swords to keep Camelot free.

Deadly jousts, duplicitous knights, and forbidden romances are nothing compared to the greatest threat of all: the girl with the long black hair, riding on horseback through the dark woods toward Arthur. Because when your whole existence is a lie, how can you trust even yourself?
