Can’t Wait Wednesday – SANCTUARY by Paola Mendoza & Abby Sher

My selection for this week is SANCTUARY by Paola Mendoza and Abby Sher.  This book is categorized on Goodreads as Science Fiction/Dystopian fiction, but wow, when I started reading the synopsis, it was terrifying to think about how plausible the story actually sounds.  I think this is a book that’s going to keep me on the edge of my seat rooting for Vali and her family, and I was also glad to get to the last line in the synopsis and see that as frightening as the story sounds, there is also hope.

My selection for this week is LOVE SONGS FOR SKEPTICS by Christina Pishiris.  This book grabbed my attention as soon as I saw the shoutout to fans of Sophie Kinsella and Josie Silver.  It also features a second chance romance, which is one of my favorite romantic tropes. 🙂

My selection for this week is SUPER FAKE LOVE SONG by David Yoon. I haven’t read Yoon’s last novel Frankly in Love yet but I keep hearing great things about it.  My reading tastes during this pandemic have really trended to fun books so Yoon’s upcoming release caught my eye.  It sounds very entertaining. 🙂

My selection for this week is EARLY DEPARTURES by Justin A. Reynolds.  I really enjoyed Reynolds’ debut novel, Opposite of Always, so I’m looking forward to checking out his next book.  This one is described as a YA contemporary novel with a speculative twist, perfect for fans of Nicola Yoon, Becky Albertalli, and Adam Silvera.  I love how unique the storyline is and that it hits on a theme that many of us can probably relate to…losing someone without having had the chance to say goodbye.

My selection for this week is THE MIDNIGHT LIBRARY by Matt Haig.  I really enjoyed Matt Haig’s How to Stop Time so when I saw he had a new book coming out and that it’s actually a book about books, it became a must-read for me.

My selection for this week is THE CONDUCTORS by Nicole Glover.  I know this book doesn’t come out until next year, but it just sounds like such a fantastic read that I couldn’t wait to share it with you all.  The comparisons to Jim Butcher and Octavia Butler caught my attention right away, and even though I love historical fiction, I’ve not read many set in the post Civil War landscape so I’m intrigued by that. I also can’t wait to meet Hetty and Benjy and learn more about them and about their line of work.

My selection for this week is DEAR JUSTYCE by Nic Stone.  If you saw my Can’t Wait Wednesday post from last week, you know I was just talking about how Nic Stone’s novel, Dear Martin, was one of my favorite reads from 2017.  Well, imagine my excitement when I was scrolling through Netgalley a couple days later and saw that there’s actually a sequel to Dear Martin coming out this fall.  It also sounds like it’s going to be just as moving, timely, and powerful a read as the first book in the series.

My selection for this week is THIS IS MY AMERICA by Kim Johnson.  I was sold on this book as soon as I saw it being compared to Dear Martin, which was one of my favorite reads from 2017, and when I saw that Nic Stone herself had done the blurb on the cover.  It sounds like a powerful, relevant and timely read, and from the reviews I’ve seen so far, it’s incredibly well written too, with characters that are going to capture your heart.

My selection for this week is SOME OTHER NOW by Sarah Everett.  This Is Us is one of my favorite TV shows so seeing this book described as This Is Us for teens called to me like a moth to a flame.  With that comparison, I’m pretty sure it’s a book that will have me reaching for the tissues.

My selection for this week is THE COUSINS by Karen M. McManus.  Why am I excited?  Because it’s Karen McManus (!) and because I love juicy stories about dark family secrets and this book sounds like it’s full of them.  McManus has also posted on Goodreads that this is a standalone YA mystery and not part of the One of Us is Lying series, which probably accounts for why the book doesn’t have “three” in its title.
