My selection for this week is WE CAN’T KEEP MEETING LIKE THIS by Rachel Lynn Solomon. So far every book I’ve read by Solomon has ended up being a 4.5 to 5 star read for me, so I’m very excited to find out that, in addition to her upcoming adult contemporary romance, The Ex Talk, which I’ll be reviewing on Friday, she also has a YA contemporary coming out this summer. It sounds like the perfect summer read too.

My selection for this week is MISFIT IN LOVE by S. K. Ali. I really loved the first book in this series so I’m very excited to get to spend more time with these characters in what sounds like the perfect summer read.

Top Ten Tuesday – My Reading and Blogging Goals for 2021

It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together. Top Ten Tuesday has been one of my favorite memes ever since I started blogging, so huge thanks to Jana for taking over the hosting duties!

This week’s TTT topic is Resolutions/Hopes for 2021 (bookish or not!). Since I haven’t yet posted my list of goals for reading and blogging, I’m going that route this week. Some of these are new goals, while others are repeats of goals I had for 2020, either because I failed at them last year or because I did okay and want to continue to work on that same goal in the coming year.

My Reading and Blogging Goals for 2021

1) My number one goal this year is a repeat goal from 2020 and that is to read more of the books I own. I love ARCs of course, but I hate feeling like I’m neglecting books I’ve purchased. I actually did pretty good with this goal last year, reading 53 of the books I had physically sitting on my shelves. Where I didn’t do as well, however, were all of those ebooks I have sitting on my kindle. They were basically out of sight, out of mind since I had all of those physical books staring me in the face. To help better keep track of those ebooks, I have made myself a MASTER LIST of all of the books I own and want to read in 2021. I’m not taking part in any challenges this year but am setting a goal for myself of reading 60 books I already own.

2) This is also a repeat goal from 2020. I really want to continue to only participate in blog tours where I have already requested a review book. I did pretty well at this in 2020; I think I only ended up participating in one tour where I didn’t already have the book and I really cut down on the number of tours I did overall. Hoping to stay on track in 2021.

3) This is also an ongoing goal since my struggle to finish series continues. In 2020, I had a list of 9 series I wanted to finish or get caught up in. I finished 2 series, got caught up in 2 others, and read one book in another. So yeah, not great. For this year, I have 8 series that I want to finish and 3 new ones sitting on my shelf that I want to start.

4) This is also a repeat goal from last year. I really want to work more on my Bookstagram account. Sometimes I post every day of the week, but then disappear for weeks at a time. I want to work on posting more consistently, taking better photos, and on interacting more on the platform.

5) I also want to get better when it comes to re-reading books I love. To keep it low pressure, I’m setting a personal goal of 1 re-read a month. Below are the books I’m hoping to re-read. Some are old favorites, while others are series books I need to re-read in order to facilitate goal #3 above.

6) I am aiming to keep my Netgalley percentage at 85% or above in 2021. I did pretty good with this goal in 2020, definitely better than in prior years, so I’m hoping I can continue to not request more than I can reasonably keep up with.

7) In 2021, I really want to increase the amount of Nonfiction titles I read. Most years I only read maybe 1 or 2 nonfiction books. As with the re-reads, this year I’m setting a personal goal of 1 nonfiction book a month. Here’s a list of titles I’m hoping to read:

8) In 2021, I really want to work on being better organized. I’ve never been a super-organized person, but the pandemic and everything that has happened because of it (working from home, having my child at home for virtual schooling since last March, etc.) has really done a number on what few organizational skills I had, haha. I need to get back on track in terms of my work-life balance, and in terms of my blog (consistent posts, a more consistent schedule for blog hopping, etc.). It will be baby steps of course because I’m still working from home and we’re still short-staffed, and my child is still doing virtual school for the foreseeable future, but there will be some progress.

9) This year I really want to have some guest posting on my blog. One of my BFFs is also an avid reader and I’ve been talking to her about maybe doing some buddy reads/reviews with me or perhaps even sharing some reviews of her own. She reads a lot of mysteries and psychological thrillers so I think her recs would be a great addition since I haven’t been reading much in those areas of late.

10) Lastly, I’ve already mentioned that I’m not doing any challenges this year. That’s not strictly true. I am doing the Goodreads Challenge and have set my goal at 150 books. I read 173 books in 2020 but some of that was due to the pandemic and politics and never wanting to turn on my TV. In hopes that 2021 won’t be a repeat, I’m sticking with the 150. It’s challenging but definitely doable, especially based on all of my reading goals above.

My selection for this week is TWICE SHY by Sarah Hogle. I have to admit that I was first drawn to this book by the intriguing cover with the guy sitting in a tree flying paper airplanes. I was sold on it as soon as I read the synopsis and can’t wait to meet this cute but crotchety groundskeeper, lol.

Top Ten Tuesday – Most Anticipated Releases for the First Half of 2021

This week’s TTT topic is Most Anticipated Releases for the First Half of 2021. There are lots of new releases I’m excited about coming out the first half of the year, so the only challenge here was to narrow my list down to just ten. It seems like almost all of my favorite authors have books coming out this spring. As you’ll see from my list, contemporaries and particularly rom-coms are still factoring very high on my priority list, although historical fiction and a little fantasy squeaked in there with Chanel Cleeton, Kristin Hannah and Nicole Glover.

My selection for this week is THE INTIMACY EXPERIMENT by Rosie Danan. Danan’s last book, The Roommate, was such a delightful and unique read that I’m very much looking forward to The Intimacy Experiment, which is a companion book for the first and focuses on one of my favorite characters from that first book, Naomi Grant, a smart and sassy adult film actress who really stole the spotlight in every scene she was in throughout The Roommate.

Top Ten Tuesday – Ten of My Favorite Reads from 2020

It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together. Top Ten Tuesday has been one of my favorite memes ever since I started blogging, so huge thanks to Jana for taking over the hosting duties!

This week’s TTT topic is Favorite Books of 2020. It was hard to pick just ten favorite books because as bad as 2020 was overall, it was actually a really great reading year for me. As of the moment I’m sitting here drafting this post, I’ve read 172 books this year, the most I’ve ever read, and looking through my Goodreads shelves, most of those reads were 3 stars and above so yay! I did have more DNFs than ever before, which I also consider a win because I’m finally getting better at just saying no to books that aren’t working for me. All of that said, I’m sharing 14 of my favorite reads from this year. All of the books below are a combination of 2020 releases and older releases since one of my big goals this year was to read more of the older books that have been sitting neglected on my bookshelves. I did pretty well with that goal as well and will have a second half of 2020 Beat the Backlist wrap up coming later this week to share all of the older books I’ve read in 2020.

Anyway, back to my favorites of the year…I rated all of these 4.5 or 5 stars and as you can see, I had winners from a variety of genres. Light, fluffy, and romantic books were my favorites overall, but I still had some darker and more atmospheric reads in there too. I’d highly recommend any of these titles to someone looking for a read they won’t be able to put down.

My Favorite Reads from 2020

(In no particular order)

1. THIS IS MY AMERICA by Kim Johnson – most powerful book I read this year.

2. BEACH READ by Emily Henry – the book whose cover made me think it would be a light and fluffy read but ended up being so much more.

3. BLACKTOP WASTELAND by S.A. Cosby – My favorite crime novel of the year. It’s so action-packed that it reads like The Fast and the Furious.

4. CRAZY STUPID BROMANCE by Lyssa Kay Adams – I went back and forth trying to decide which Bromance book was my favorite this year since I also read Undercover Bromance and loved them both. Going with this one mainly because of Beefcake the cat, haha.

5. TAKE A HINT, DANI BROWN by Talia Hibbert – This one wins for most adorable couple. I read this months ago and still smile every time I think about them.

6. JUST OUR LUCK by Julia Walton – A heartwarming coming of age story about overcoming anxiety and finding friendship and love. This was one of my final reads of 2020 and it was just such a lovely note to end the year on.

7. THE LIONS OF FIFTH AVENUE by Fiona Davis – Fiona Davis’ novels never disappoint because they combine two of my favorite things, historical fiction and NYC iconic buildings. This one features the New York Public LIbrary and a fantastic mystery to boot.

8. MAGIC LESSONS by Alice Hoffman – It’s Alice Hoffman and it’s a prequel to Practical Magic that shows the origins of the Owens bloodline and the infamous curse. What else do I need to say? It’s glorious!

9. THE ONCE AND FUTURE WITCHES by Alix E. Harrow – While nothing can top Alice Hoffman’s witchy series (see above), my second favorite witchy read of 2020 was this gorgeous and atmospheric read by Alix E. Harrow. I also read and loved her book Ten Thousand Doors of January this year and look forward to reading more from her.

10. ONE DAY IN DECEMBER by Josie Silver – This was actually one of my very first reads of the year and the beautiful and emotional story has just stuck with me all the way through 2020.

11. THE SIMPLE WILD by K.A. Tucker – The older book that I could kick my own butt for not reading it sooner. By far, my favorite romance of the year. I loved it so much that the sequel and the holiday novella are queued up on my kindle now to read in January.

12. SORCERY OF THORNS by Margaret Rogerson – Another gorgeous story that I could kick my butt for ignoring for so long. This is a fantasy novel that actually lives up to all of the hype, plus it’s set in libraries and features magical books. What’s not to love? Another huge bonus? It’s a standalone, which is heaven for people like me who struggle with series.

13. THE SUN DOWN MOTEL by Simone St. James – I don’t usually read books classified as horror but something about this one just called to me and I’m so glad I answered the call. It is the creepiest, most atmospheric book I read all year and I loved every page of it. It was my first time reading Simone St. James and I loved it so much that I recently picked up a copy of The Broken Girls so that I can experience more of her gorgeous writing.

14. WHAT YOU WISH FOR by Katherine Center – This is my third book from Katherine Center and she is quickly becoming one of my favorite contemporary authors. I have fallen in love with the characters in every book so far, especially with the protagonist in this book, who is a school librarian.

My selection for this week is THE INFINITY COURTS by Akemi Dawn Bowman. This is an author that I’ve had such good luck with. I loved Starfish, Summer Bird Blue, and her most recent, Harley in the Sky. As soon as I heard she had a new book coming out, I had to rush and find the synopsis. I think this new book sounds amazing and I’m especially intrigued by the science fiction elements since everything else I’ve read from Bowman has been contemporary, coming of age type stories.

Also, just a head’s up that this will probably be my last post until next week due to the Christmas holiday. We aren’t doing much to celebrate but I do want to spend some quality time with my family. I finally have a few days off so I will be catching up on visiting all of my favorite blogs though so I’m sure I’ll see you around the blogosphere. Hope everyone has a wonderful holiday!

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together. Top Ten Tuesday has been one of my favorite memes ever since I started blogging, so huge thanks to Jana for taking over the hosting duties!

This week’s TTT topic is 10 Books I Hope Santa Brings. This is an easy topic just because I always keep a book wishlist handy since books are pretty much always my preferred gift to receive. Here are a few books (and a couple of pre-orders – Kristin Hannah and Leigh Bardugo) I’m hoping to get this Christmas.
