Can’t Wait Wednesday – THE DO-OVER by Lynn Painter

“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted at Breaking the Spine, which encourages fellow bloggers to spotlight upcoming releases that we’re excited about.  It is a meme that I have  loved participating in since I first started blogging, but as Jill is no longer actively posting, from now on I’ll be linking to Can’t Wait Wednesday, hosted by Tressa at Wishful Endings, which is a spinoff of the original WoW meme.

My selection for this week is THE DO-OVER by Lynn Painter.  I’ve read two of Lynn Painters novels so far, Better Than the Movies and Mr. Wrong Number and absolutely loved them both. Both novels were filled with wonderful character and snappy, often hilarious dialogue and left me with a smile on my face.  Needless to say, I want to read everything Painter has written and can’t wait to get my hands on this latest YA novel. I love that this one appears to have a Groundhog’s Day vibe that revolves around an awful Valentine’s Day.

THE DO-OVER by Lynn Painter

Publication Date: November 15, 2022 by Simon Pulse

From Goodreads:

In this riotous young adult romp for fans of Recommended for You and A Cuban Girl’s Guide to Tea and Tomorrow, a teen girl has the worst Valentine’s Day ever—only to relive it over and over again.

After living through a dumpster fire of a Valentine’s Day, Emilie Hornby escapes to her grandmother’s house for some comfort and a consolation pint of Ben & Jerry’s. She passes out on the couch, but when she wakes up, she’s back home in her own bed—and it’s Valentine’s Day all over again. And the next day? Another nightmare V-Day.

Emilie is stuck in some sort of time loop nightmare that she can’t wake up from as she re-watches her boyfriend, Josh, cheat on her day after day. In addition to Josh’s recurring infidelity, Emilie can’t get away from the enigmatic Nick, who she keeps running into—sometimes literally—in unfortunate ways.

How many days can one girl passively watch her life go up in flames? And when something good starts to come out of these terrible days, what happens when the universe stops doling out do-overs?

Top Ten Tuesday – Books by My Favorite Authors I Still Need to Read

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.  Top Ten Tuesday has been one of my favorite memes ever since I started blogging, so huge thanks to Jana for taking over the hosting duties!

This week’s TTT topic is a freebie so I thought it would be fun to share some books I really need to get my butt in gear and read, specifically Books by My Favorite Authors I Still Need to Read.  Sometimes I wish I was the type of reader who, as soon as I find a new author, I immediately devour everything they’ve ever written.  Instead, I tend to very slowly (think turtle slow) work my way through their backlist.  For that reason, I always have titles lying around that I still haven’t gotten to yet.  Here are some that I’m really hoping to finally read this year.

Books by My Favorite Authors I Still Need to Read

1. TRUE COLORS by Kristin Hannah

2. ROOMIES by Christina Lauren

3.  EVERYONE IS BEAUTIFUL by Katherine Center

4.  THE DOLLHOUSE by Fiona Davis

5. RUNNING WILD by K.A. Tucker

6. THE DIAMOND EYE by Kate Quinn

7.  FOREVER, INTERRUPTED by Taylor Jenkins Reid

8.  I FOUND YOU by Lisa Jewell

9. THE NEAR WITCH by V.E. Schwab

10. AURORA BURNING by Jay Kristoff and Amie Kaufman

My selection for this week is A GUIDE TO BEING JUST FRIENDS by Sophie Sullivan.  I really enjoyed Sullivan’s first two romance novels and the premise for this new one sounds like a lot of fun.

A GUIDE TO BEING JUST FRIENDS by Sophie Sullivan

Publication Date: January 17, 2023 by St. Martin’s Griffin

From Goodreads:

Hailey Sharp has a one-track mind. Get By the Cup salad shop off the ground. Do literally everything possible to make it a success. Repeat. With a head full of entrepreneurial ideas and a bad ex in her rearview, her one and only focus is living life the way she wants to. No distractions.

Wes Jansen never did understand the fuss about relationships. With a string of lackluster first dates and the pain from his parents’ angry divorce following him around, he’d much rather find someone who he likes, but won’t love. Companionship, not passion, is the name of the game.

When Hailey and Wes find each other in a disastrous meet cute that wasn’t even intended for them, they embarrassingly go their separate ways. But when Wes finds Hailey to apologize for his behavior, they strike a friendship. Because that’s all this can be. Hailey doesn’t want any distractions. Wes doesn’t want to fall in love.

What could possibly go wrong?

My selection for this week is WELL TRAVELED by Jen DeLuca.  This is the fourth book in DeLuca’s Well Met series and I’ve enjoyed every book so far.  The characters are always so easy to root for and I love the Ren Faire setting, so I have high hopes for this latest installment. 🙂

WELL TRAVELED by Jen DeLuca

Publication Date: December 6, 2022 by Berkley Books

From Goodreads:

The Renaissance Faire is on the move, and Lulu and Dex are along for the ride, in the next utterly charming rom-com from Jen DeLuca.

A high-powered attorney from a success-oriented family, Louisa “Lulu” Malone lives to work, and everything seems to be going right, until the day she realizes it’s all wrong. Lulu’s cousin Mitch introduced her to the world of Renaissance Faires, and when she spies one at a time just when she needs an escape, she leaps into the welcoming environment of turkey legs, taverns, and tarot readers. The only drawback? Dex MacLean: a guitarist with a killer smile, the Casanova of the Faire… and her traveling companion for the summer.

Dex has never had to work for much in his life, and why should he? Touring with his brothers as The Dueling Kilts is going great, and he always finds a woman at every Faire. But when Lulu proves indifferent to his many plaid charms and a shake-up threatens the fate of the band, Dex must confront something he never has before: his future.

Forced to spend days and nights together on the road, Lulu’s interest in the kilted bad boy grows as he shows her a side of himself no one else has seen. The stresses of her old lifestyle fade away as she learns to trust her intuition and follow her heart instead of her head. But when her time on the road is over, will Lulu go with her gut, or are she and Dex destined for separate paths?

My selection for this week is ALL THE DANGEROUS THINGS by Stacy Willingham.  I read Willingham’s debut thriller A Flicker in the Dark a couple of months ago and just devoured it.  It was definitely a book that lived up to the hype, so I was thrilled to see she has a new thriller coming out in January.  It sounds like just as addicting a read as her debut did too!

ALL THE DANGEROUS THINGS by Stacy Willingham

Publication Date:  January 10, 2023 by Minotaur Books

From Goodreads:

Following up her instant New York Times bestseller, A Flicker in the Dark, Stacy Willingham delivers a totally gripping thriller about a desperate mother with a troubled past.

One year ago, Isabelle Drake’s life changed forever: her toddler son, Mason, was taken out of his crib in the middle of the night while she and her husband were asleep in the next room. With little evidence and few leads for the police to chase, the case quickly went cold. However, Isabelle cannot rest until Mason is returned to her—literally.

Except for the occasional catnap or small blackout where she loses track of time, she hasn’t slept in a year.

Isabelle’s entire existence now revolves around finding him, but she knows she can’t go on this way forever. In hopes of jarring loose a new witness or buried clue, she agrees to be interviewed by a true-crime podcaster—but his interest in Isabelle’s past makes her nervous. His incessant questioning paired with her severe insomnia has brought up uncomfortable memories from her own childhood, making Isabelle start to doubt her recollection of the night of Mason’s disappearance, as well as second-guess who she can trust… including herself. But she is determined to figure out the truth no matter where it leads.

My selection for this week is FINLAY DONOVAN JUMPS THE GUN by Elle Cosimano.  I love this thriller/cozy mystery series so much! Finlay and Vero are such a hoot and I can’t wait to see what kind of shenanigans they get up to in this new book.

FINLAY DONOVAN JUMPS THE GUN by Elle Cosimano

Publication Date:  January 31, 2023 by Minotaur Books

From Goodreads:

Author and single mom Finlay Donovan has been in messes before—after all, she’s a pro at removing bloodstains for various unexpected reasons—but none quite like this. When Finlay and her nanny/partner-in-crime Vero accidentally destroyed a luxury car that they had “borrowed” in the process of saving the life of Finlay’s ex-husband, the Russian mob did her a favor and bought the car for her. And now Finlay owes them.

Mob boss Feliks is still running the show from behind bars, and he has a task for Finlay: find and identify a contract killer before the cops do. The problem is, the killer might be an officer themself.

Luckily, hot cop Nick has just been tasked with starting up a citizen’s police academy, and combined pressure from Finlay’s looming book deadline and Feliks is enough to convince Finlay and Vero to get involved. Through firearm training and forensic classes (and some hands-on research with a tempting detective), Finlay and Vero use their time in police academy to sleuth out the real contract killer to free themselves from the mob’s clutches—all the while dodging spies, confronting Vero’s past, and juggling the daily trials of parenthood.
