Top Ten Tuesday – 10 Books I Was SO EXCITED to Get, but Still Haven’t Read

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.  Top Ten Tuesday has been one of my favorite memes ever since I started blogging, so huge thanks to Jana for taking over the hosting duties!

This week’s TTT topic is Books I Was SO EXCITED to Get, but Still Haven’t Read.  In my head, I call this “The List of Shame.”  Those books I just had to have, couldn’t wait to get my hands on them, and then proceed to let them sit on my shelf for months or even years before I finally get around to reading them.  I did finally put a dent in the last list I made like this, but there are always more to share.  The biggest trend I see is that I’ve neglected my fantasy reading for a while now. During the pandemic I have craved pretty much exclusively romance so all of those fantasy novels I was dying to read got pushed aside.  I did finally read the entire Poppy Wars trilogy this year though so I’m hoping to start working my way through all of these series as well.  I think the book that has the “honor” of sitting on my shelf unread the longest is Uprooted.  I didn’t love Spinning Silver as much as I hoped to so I’ve kind of lost interest in Uprooted as a result.  Honestly the only reason I haven’t just gotten rid of it is that the cover is so stunning, lol.

You know, I think we have a physical copy of Uprooted from BEA (unread). It’s not my thing, but people seem to enjoy it. I LOVED The Friend Zone. That book started my love affair with Abby Jimenez. The Cuba books were really, really good, and I am always here for a McManus book.

Jane Harper is one of my favourite authors so I hope you enjoy The Dry! Uprooted and The Cousins were also great reads. The City of Brass made it onto my list today as well—I feel like I’ve had that one for ages now and I might even feel like picking it up now! I hope you enjoy all of these reads on the “list of shame” whenever you get to them 😉

I really liked The Cousins. I suspect it’s not most people’s favorite McManus book, or maybe I just didn’t see a lot of reviews, but something about it- the mystery, the island- I don’t know, but I hope you like it when you get to it. 🙂

That’s great that you’re making progress on the books you own. I’m trying to do the same. If I’d stop buying more, I’d be in great shape, lol.

Yeah, I don’t even know how I skipped over that Cuba book because I’ve loved all of her other ones. I actually just got the audiobook so I’m hoping that will entice me to pick it up soon.

Glad to hear you enjoyed Uprooted. Someone recommended that I try the audiobook so I think I’m going to do that eventually.

I’ve also had The Near Witch on my shelf for quite a few years now but still haven’t read it (though it wasn’t on my list this week). Of the ones on your list, I’ve read The City of Brass, The Language of Thorns, Uprooted and An Enchantment of Ravens. I really loved The City of Brass and The Language of Thorns, but I wasn’t much impressed with either Uprooted or An Enchantment of Ravens. Hope you enjoy all of these, whenever you end up reading them.

I did enjoy Uprooted, but I haven’t read Spinning Silver, so I can’t help you by saying it’s similar or totally different. Hope you’ll enjoy it if you do decide to give it a try though! Empire of the Vampire is still on my TBR too, as well as every single Chanel Cleeton book – they’re also on my list of shame, haha 🙂

Empire of the Vampire is definitely high priority for me. I’m hoping to do the audio since the book sitting on my shelf is such an enormous brick, haha.
