Top Ten Tuesday – Book Titles That Are Complete Sentences

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.  Top Ten Tuesday has been one of my favorite memes ever since I started blogging, so huge thanks to Jana for taking over the hosting duties!

This week’s TTT topic is Book Titles That Are Complete Sentences.  This topic was surprisingly challenging for me, not because there aren’t plenty of titles out there that are actually complete sentences, but because I’m apparently way more grammatically challenged than I ever realized.  I had to swap out a handful of my original choices for this topic because when I looked at them more closely, they were just really long descriptions that didn’t even have a verb in them, haha! I pulled out the old grammar book and saw imperative/command sentences, which led me to add Talk Bookish to Me and Act Your Age, Eve Brown to my list.

I actually haven’t read that Backman yet but am looking forward to it since I’ve loved everything else I’ve written from him.

I’m really impressed at everyone’s lists this week – there’s really hardly any overlap! I Have Lost My Way is a great title!

Oh hello, some new books for me to look into here. But I also found myself nodding to what you said about titles not having verbs in them — I’ve been going through this TTT on different blogs wondering what titles I would my list and they would not qualify LOL! Like The Women and The Girls or A Dog’s Courage — which absolutely they are courageous but so not not a sentence 🙂

We Can’t Keep Meeting Like This is a great pick! I’m looking forward to reading that one! I really like books with long titles~

Yeah, it surprised me. I feel like I don’t really see them often when I’m shopping for books yet my own shelves are full of them.

Verbs? What are those? lol seriously though I think a lot of mine are kind of command sentences too, actually. Or they’re just REALLY short sentences haha

Talk Bookish To Me is fun, and ooh McManus. Her stuff is great! 🙂

Yeah, once I looked up command sentences, I started thinking of so many more titles. Probably could have done a whole post just about those kinds of titles, lol.

All your books and author´s are new to me. So a lot of great sounding books to discover. Thank you for bringing them to my attention.

Nope! I changed the topic this week because I had less than 5 books I’d read that had full sentence titles, so clearly not something that attracts me.

Yeah, I tend to be more drawn to one-word titles myself. I love how much meaning can be packed into such a small title.
