Top Ten Tuesday – Questions I Would Ask My Favorite Authors

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.  Top Ten Tuesday has been one of my favorite memes ever since I started blogging, so huge thanks to Jana for taking over the hosting duties!

This week’s TTT topic is Questions I Would Ask My Favorite Authors.  This is a fun topic, mainly just because I loved even imagining the possibility of interviewing any of my favorite authors.  Assuming that I wouldn’t just turn into a blubbering fangirl mess at the idea of actually talking to them, these are some questions I’d love to know the answers to.  I made one list of questions, but the authors I’d most love to ask them to are Victoria Schwab, Leigh Bardugo, Kristin Hannah, Alice Hoffman, Judy Blume, Marie Lu, Rick Riordan, and Becky Albertalli.

Questions I Would Ask My Favorite Authors

  • If you had to pick a favorite characters from all of the books you’ve written, who would you choose and why?
  • Which of your books are you most proud of and why?
  • What do you find to be the easiest part of the writing process?  The hardest?
  • Do you miss any of the characters from your books?  If so and you could write an epilogue for them, what do you see them doing now?
  • Do you have any interesting writing quirks or rituals you would like to share?
  • Have you always wanted to be a writer?  If you hadn’t become a writer, what do you think you would be doing for a living instead?
  • What books or authors have most influenced your own writing?
  • What is your all time favorite book?  Tell me why it’s so special to you.
  • If you could give an aspiring author one single piece of advice, what would you tell them?
  • And a silly one just to wrap up – what’s your favorite food to snack on while you’re writing?

Great questions! I like the epilogue one – I’d like to see where they think the characters are versus what I think happened to them.

Great questions! I had Schwab and Bardugo in mind while coming up with questions and I also had the ‘rituals’ one on my list too. I’d be so curious if 1. they’d even say and 2. if they did, what they’d be! Lol

I love the question about missing their characters. I imagine it might be quite difficult to let go of them after you’ve spend so many hours with them.

I would like to find out about an authors favorite character they had written and if they miss them. That would be interesting and even more so, if could sense the level of attachment when I read the book.

Awesome questions! I’ve met a couple of my favorite authors and I literally just gush to them about how amazing they are.

I like the question about missing their characters. I often wonder if authors miss certain characters like that, or yearn to revisit favorites.

I would like to know what the easiest and hardest part of authors’ writing is too — and I think I have been surprised by responses to this question before.

Those are AWESOME questions, Suzanne! As someone who both writes and conducts interviews from time to time – I think you’ve got some great questions there:)). And yes… I DID write an epilogue for my favourite character as I found it really hard to let him go at the end of the series – and I was crying as I wrote it…

I’ve always wondered how hard it is to say goodbye to characters you’ve been with for the entirety of the book writing process, so I definitely appreciate your answer. 🙂

Great questions, Suzanne! I’d love to ask Stephen King a few questions even though I’ve only read one of his books (but seen all the movies and series based on his books). He is intriguing to me. For example, how much of himself is in every one of his tortured MC’s? He’d probably refuse to answer and tell me to get lost 😀 I adore Alice Hoffman, too. Would love to ask her a few questions.

Stephen King would be such an interesting person to interview. I follow him on twitter and I just think he’s so much fun.

Q&As with authors are some of my favourite posts. I want to do so many more on my blog. I usually limit it to 5 questions and have asked many of the ones you’ve come up with, Suzanne. Although I love the snack one, so I might steal that for next time. 😉
