Can’t Wait Wednesday – INSTANT KARMA by Marissa Meyer

“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted at Breaking the Spine, which encourages fellow bloggers to spotlight upcoming releases that we’re excited about.  It is a meme that I have  loved participating in for over a year now, but as Jill is no longer actively posting, from now on I’ll be linking to Can’t Wait Wednesday, hosted by Tressa at Wishful Endings, which is a spinoff of the original WoW meme.

My selection for this week is INSTANT KARMA by Marissa Meyer. I’ve been a big Marissa Meyer fan ever since I read The Lunar Chronicles and her new book just sounds like too much fun to pass up on. I love the tagline on the cover:  “Is it love, hate…or fate?”

INSTANT KARMA by Marissa Meyer

Publication Date:  November 3, 2020

From Goodreads:

In this young adult contemporary romance, a girl is suddenly gifted with the ability to cast instant karma on those around her—both good and bad.

Chronic overachiever Prudence Daniels is always quick to cast judgment on the lazy, rude, and arrogant residents of her coastal town. Her dreams of karmic justice are fulfilled when, after a night out with her friends, she wakes up with the sudden ability to cast instant karma on those around her. Pru giddily makes use of the power, punishing everyone from public vandals to karaoke hecklers, but there is one person on whom her powers consistently backfire: Quint Erickson, her slacker of a lab partner and all-around mortal enemy. Soon, Pru begins to uncover truths about Quint, her peers, and even herself that reveal how thin the line is between virtue and vanity, generosity and greed . . . love and hate.

I’m usually not really that much into ya romance but then again, I love Marissa Meyer’s writing style. It sounds like I already know what will go on but still cute. I will definitely go check it out. 🙂

I know, right? I did the same double take when I saw it and even went to her Goodreads author page just to make sure, lol.

I have never read a Marissa Meyer book, but now she wrote a contemporary. Obviously, I was all over it. I love the concept too. That little touch of magic can be used in such a fun way.

I think the magic will be a fun touch too and am very intrigued to see how she does branching out to a new genre.

I feel like the only one around that never read the Lunar Chronicles. Despite the rave reviews, despite owning the first two books… it just never happened. Maybe I’ll have better luck with her contemporary. 🙂

I love her and I’m very curious how the transition to writing contemporary turns out, although there is still a touch of fantasy in this one. This will most likely be a future CWW for me. Great pick!

This sounds like a lot of fun. I thought Marissa Meyer only writes sci-fi/ fantasy novels but to read that she writes in another genre as well is wonderful. Happy reading and stay safe.

The synopsis by itself is riddled with tone. I love it! I loved eccentric characters in general. I will add it to my tbr.

This sounds promising, Suzanne. I like the underlying moral theme here. I am embarrassed to say that I have been reading older novels so not really on the cutting edge of anticipation—LOL.

I had reserved some new releases from my local library in hopes to do some reviews on my blog. But then Covid hit. So, I’ve been only reading books loaned to me or gifted or else from my current TBR. But I hope to get those new releases when the library reopens and have some interesting reviews to do.
(I could buy them but I have too many books cluttering up my apartment as it is :P)

If Marissa Meyer writes it, eventually I am going to read it. I still have yet to read her Renegades series but I am curious to see how her venture into contemporary fiction will go!
