Weekly Recap #155: Week of 5/10 – 5/16

It’s time for another weekly recap post of all things happening on and off the blog. This week I’ll be linking to the Sunday Post, which is hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer.

I feel like I should just write “See last week’s recap” for what’s going on because it’s seriously just the same old, same old.  My state has started to enter Phase 1 of reopening even though we still have over 1,000 new cases on average per day.  I don’t really know why the 14 days of declining cases was even mentioned as the standard for Phase 1 when most of the states seem to be doing whatever the heck they want, whether it’s safe or not.  We’re still not going out much at all, especially since we ventured out to the grocery store yesterday and saw that the majority of people we encountered still aren’t wearing masks even though cases are definitely still climbing here in my county and the two neighboring ones.  So yeah, status quo.

I did finally finish binge watching Will & Grace and have moved on to Seinfeld.  I’m almost 4 seasons in to Seinfeld, and while it’s funny, I can’t decide if I want to watch the entire series or not.  It doesn’t feel like there’s a real storyline there; it’s more like every episode is just a standalone.  That’s fine but at the same time, I’m just sitting here like “Okay, now I can say I’ve experienced Seinfeld. Next!” This is probably also compounded by the fact that my Netflix and Hulu queues look about like my TBR, lol.

Reading is going well for the most part. I’m finishing my May ARCs this week and hopefully starting on my June ones. I also finished up another book from my backlist that I promised myself I was going to read this year.  If you’re in the market for a unique and surprisingly funny read about a zombie apocalypse, I highly recommend Hollow Kingdom by Kira Jane Buxton.

Anyway, that’s all I’ve got.  I hope everyone out there is staying safe, healthy, and is practicing social distancing.  Have a great week!

I’m so glad you read Hollow Kingdom! I absolutely loved that book and I wish she would hurry up and announce her next book😁 And yeah, Seinfeld is pretty much like that the whole show. I don’t remember there ever being a story arc!

That’s what I was thinking about Seinfeld. I may just look for a Best Of list and watch those episodes so I can move on to something else.

‘No Offence’ looks good, I added to my Tbr. I understand what you’re going through with your TBR overcrowd. With all this time on our hands, the ideas are overflowing. Thanks for the great recs!

I’m really glad someone has brought up the issue of the recorded stuff stacking up waiting to be watched. Himself keeps grumping because we are running out of space on our Sky box:)). But no… I don’t want him to delete it if I haven’t got around to watching it, yet. I hope the coming week is another peaceful one – sorry that things are still looking grim in your county…

Yeah, it’s discouraging to see the states relax the stay at home orders without justification. This is what it looks like when we lack effective leadership. My husband is an infectious disease expert, spent his entire career consulting with the agencies at the forefront of this pandemic and we’re not leaving home. Our prayer is that it doesn’t get too grim because of reckless policies and behaviors. You hold your ground.

Wonderful book selections! Looking forward to reading your reviews💜

We are still stay at home in NJ, but we can golf and go to the beach. I heard they are opening boating too. It is what it is. Looks like the pub was being nice with the new Silverman book. I was worried, when I saw she was with a new publisher, but yeah! We got approved! I am almost done with my June ARCs. I really want to get some reviews backlogged, so I can catch up on a few of my romance series.

It really does seem like all the weeks are just blurring together! Stuff is starting to reopen in my state, very slowly, but probably mostly because of the upcoming holiday weekend!

      Suzanne says:

Yes, I think the holiday weekend has a lot to do with it here as well. I just heard that one of our biggest beaches is loosening its restrictions this weekend.

Same here- everyone around here is just going out like no big deal, so many people not using masks. Blows my mind. I think the whole 14 days thing just got kicked to the curb lol- no one seems to be following it!

I have never watched Seinfeld! Not an entire episode, anyway- I’ve seen snippets of course. I feel kinda weird though for saying that lol- i thought EVERYONE but me had seen it!

We must be the last two who hadn’t watched Seinfeld then. I think before I started binging it on Hulu last week I had only seen one episode.

Things are slowly opening up in Kentucky. We’ve always had way less cases than Indiana and Ohio, but they’re still climbing. And obviously Ohio and Indiana are still high. I get why certain things would open, but I don’t know…I’m still staying away as much as I can. People are definitely not social distancing or wearing masks as much as they should and my immediate family is all pretty high risk. It’ll be interesting to see what happens in the next month or so, but I’m afraid it’ll lead to a lot more deaths.

Great job on your reading goals though! I’ve never watched Seinfeld, but didn’t have an interest. I do like Will and Grace, but I’ve seen random repeats- so that might be a fun one to watch from the beginning. I have quite a few shows and movies I really want to get to. We’ll see what happens. LOL

I need to catch up on my Netflix too. I was never in to Sienfield, but I remember how popular it was when it first came out. I need to get caught up on my Netflix and Hulu shows too. It looks like you got a pretty good haul this week! My Summer of Love and Misfortune sounds so good, and I was eyeing The Royal We and Recommended for You. Have a great week Suxanne!

… the numbers you guys are having is so scary. So status quo is possible a good thing? I guess? Also you have made me very curious about Hollow Kingdom!

Aw the books on your TBR are so cute – I love the designs of all of them! Especially The Royal We.
I’m sorry you’re feeling so frustrated in your state – I’m not well versed enough in epidemiology to know if Phase I will be effective for your state, but here’s hoping it will be!

Im hesitant that we are reopening even though we only had a handful of new cases in the last week, I can’t imagine opening when infection rates are still escalating.
I’ll be lucky if I finish all my May ARCs before June at my current rate.

Wishing you a great reading week

It does feel like a free for all these days. Supposedly there are restrictions on resaurants and retail stores (50% capacity) but I drive past places and parking lots are packed so I’m wondering who exactly is enforcing the restrictions? I was never a huge fan of Seinfeld. I found the characters kind of obnoxious and annoying at times and it really did seem pretty pointless. The Prisoner’s Wife looks like a heart breaker.

Pointless sounds about right. It’s funny, I definitely laugh but at the same time, I’m just like what actually happened? I was telling someone else I think I’m going to look for a Best Of list, watch those episodes and call it quits.

My state (IL) is in phase 2 until the end of the month. I’m nervous because the Wisconsin Supreme Court told WI to reopen and WI is not far away. I’ve already heard of people driving up there for things like haircuts. Ugh.

I’m reading Something to Talk About now! I hope we both enjoy!

    • Suzanne
      Suzanne says:

I hear you on this. Most of my state has moved into Phase 1, but the northern Virginia area has not. My county is just south of the area that is still locked down and folks there are talking about coming down here to get haircuts, etc. I’m worried asymptomatic people are going to cause even more outbreaks here than we were already dealing with.

  15. Olivia Roach
    Olivia Roach says:

Yeah, I am a bit nervous about things reopening the way they are when not enough places seem to be social distancing seriously. If people were more obedient to those rules I would be more happy with it! Anyway, we shall see how it goes, I guess. I have heard great things about The Royal We and that sounds be fun ^.^

    • Suzanne
      Suzanne says:

Yeah, I don’t understand why people are being so difficult about following rules designed to keep everyone safe. So frustrating.

  16. Brittany
    Brittany says:

It baffles me the lack of uniformity of places opening up. Here, at least, it seems like every county has their own guidelines and rules, and its impossible to keep track of what is and isn’t allowed, and it doesn’t really make any sense for one city to have different rules than their neighbors because people are crossing city and county boundries!
