Weekly Recap #153: Week of 4/26 – 5/2

It’s time for another weekly recap post of all things happening on and off the blog. This week I’ll be linking to the Sunday Post, which is hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer.

I’m late posting today, but it’s actually for a good reason.  I started reading Beach Read last night and it’s so good I picked it back up as soon as I woke up this morning and completely lost track of time.  I’m also planning to dive back into it as soon as I finish this post, lol.

I hope everyone is doing well.  We’re still plugging along here in Virginia.  Our stay-at-home order lasts until June 10th as of right now, and considering the past three days have brought us our highest daily numbers of new cases yet, I don’t see the order expiring early.

I honestly just don’t have much to talk about this week.  The big excitement for the week was going to my son’s school to pick up the contents of his school and gym lockers.  Since the kids had just gone out on Spring Break when the announcement was made that the schools were closed for the rest of the year, all of their belongings were still in their lockers.  The staff at my son’s school cleaned out all of the lockers and we had curbside pickup to retrieve them.  I was honestly expecting pure chaos, but it was very well orchestrated and only took a couple of minutes, so I have to give props to the school.  I also loved that they did it by grade and had the teachers for that grade at the school standing, safely spaced out per distancing guidelines, waving to the kids and talking to them.  My son’s English teacher told him he needed to pick up a book, which made me laugh. She could obviously tell he had been slacking in her class with the distance learning, lol.

The other highlight was of course the hair dye curbside pickup I mentioned last week. I picked up my color from the salon yesterday and am thrilled to say they came up with a completely idiot-proof process to cover up that root growth.  They mixed the color and put it in a Ziploc bag.  All I had to do when I got home was mix it thoroughly, twist the baggie to bring all of the color down to a bottom corner, then snip the very end off of the corner and pipe the color on as if icing a cake. It was brilliant!  My highlights will have to wait until the salons officially reopen but at least the gray is gone for a few weeks.  Small victories, lol!

Beyond that, I’ve spent my week continuing my binge watch of Will & Grace from a few months ago.  I’m finally up to the rebooted episodes and nearing the end, so now I have to decide what I want to watch next.  I don’t do well with too many choices so having Hulu, Netflix, and Disney + right now has my Libra brain all muddled and indecisive.  I might do Seinfeld though since that’s another show that I’m the last person on the planet who hasn’t ever watched it.

Anyway, that’s it for me.  I hope everyone out there is staying safe, healthy, and is practicing social distancing.  Have a great week!

I always die my own hair, but I am happy to hear your first time was a success. I have dark hair, so my roots are scary, if I let it go. It’s why I started doing my own in the first place. Yeah for Beach Read! It wasn’t what I was expecting, but I really enjoyed it. Did you get to the part, where she is on the boat? My crying jag started there, and last turned to happy tears. Wow! You never watched Seinfeld. I watched it weekly, when it first aired. Everyone spent some time the next day talking about the episode at work. I loved that show!

Here in NJ, we don’t even have an end date to the stay-at-home order, it’s just kind of like, indefinitely. They did open parks back up this weekend, so maybe that’s a start.

We have a few non-essential businesses opening back up starting on May 15th with some stringent safety guidelines in place. Really hoping people follow them so we can get this thing under control.

Idiot proof concept he? LOL And I have seen so many people raving about Beach Read Suzanne! That’s amazing when a book sucks you in like that

I’m probably also reading Real Men Knit this week. I’m glad to hear that your state is looking at June 10th. I think some are out of their mind with cases increasing. We’re staying home, either way.

Take care, be kind and sensible!

Yeah, we’ll be staying home too. Too many people out there still refusing to wear the masks for me to feel safe.

Our district has been talking about cleaning out lockers too and students picking up their stuff but they haven’t done it yet. Glad it went smoothly there. Such a weird way to end the school year, isn’t it?? Who would ever have guessed. Anyway cases are still bad here too so in spite of some protests I imagine our shelter-in-place is gonna remain for a while too.

Ooh is that a new Lisa Jewell I see??

    Have a super week!

It really is a wild time we’re living in. Yep, that is a new Lisa Jewell. I’m very excited to dive into that one.

Hey, some kids just aren’t going to be readers, I hate to say it. Both my kids were read to from the time they were born and for years after, yet neither one of them is a reader now🙁 My son will pick up a book now and then, but he’s a video game design major in college so that’s his priority!🤣

I think my son would love to go to a school where there’s a video game design major. I didn’t even realize there was such a thing, lol.

I love it when a book grabs hold of me so completely like that. I am glad you are enjoying Beach Reads. I am glad the hair color worked out well! I am looking forward to the day I can go back to the salon and get my hair touched up. I haven’t watched Seinfeld, so you definitely aren’t the last person out there who hasn’t seen it. I likely will be. Haha. It’s not a show i have ever really been interested in to be honest.

Your new books look really good! I am interested in reading Spin the Dawn and Not Like the Movies also. I hope you enjoy them when you read them, a well as your current reads.

    Have a great week, Suzanne.

Haa, I think this post is such a good ad for Beach Read! Also, OMG, I love the trick of your hairdresser — I wish we had that here!

Congratulations to your son’s school for organising the emptying of the lockers so deftly – it had the potential to turn into a free-for-all and how nice that the teachers were there, waiting to chat to their students. I’m guessing it has been a wrench for them to suddenly find they no longer see their class on a daily basis. I taught primary-age children and grew very fond of them, with very few exceptions, over the year.

And I am MIGHTILY impressed with your hairdresser – how brilliant! And these things MATTER. I felt so much better once I’d cut my own hair so that it once more suited me and I didn’t have this tousled-haired old bat staring back at me in the mirror. I hope the coming week is a good one, Suzanne. Stay safe:)

I like how your son’s school did the pick-up. That’s awesome! And yay for being able to cover up your gray hair. I know my mom is desperate for a hair cut since she normally does it every other week. hah Glad to hear you’re loving Beach Read! I hope to read that one soon.

Oh gosh, yes. I do desperately need an actual haircut. I thought about trying to do it myself but decided a ponytail was the safer choice for now.

I’m excited to hear that Beach Read is so un-put-downable because that one is high on my TBR. And I love that your salon has curbside color pick-up! 🙂 That’s awesome. I finally broke down and ordered some boxed color for mine. I can’t live with the gray roots any longer. Ugh. I’m reading Big Summer now and really enjoying it.

I think it’s wonderful you’re salon did all of that for you! I haven’t heard of anyone doing something similar here. Very cool! I’ve heard a lot of REALLY great things about Beach Read, and I cannot wait to get my hands on a copy. The books that cause you to lose track of time are the best! 🙂

Beach Read was fantastic. I’ll be reviewing it this week. It was definitely everything I want in a book, especially right now.

I was eyeing Beach Read when it was first put on Netgalley, and now I’m wishing I requested it. My roots are pretty bad, and I’m thinking that I need to just pick up some dark dye and try my best. Our governor is opening up some more businesses on Friday, but it’s just for curbside pick up. Cabin fever has officially settled in, but I’m doing everything I can to stay safe.

      Suzanne says:

I hear you on the cabin fever. It started getting to me a little this week but thankfully the weather was good so I could at least walk around my neighborhood a bit.

I feel very much the same – like there isn’t much to talk about. We have well and truly adjusted to this ‘new normal’ and so everything is just the same, y’know. Day in, day out.

It is great that you found a book that thoroughly gripped you – I have heard good things about Beach Read.

Wishing you & your family a lovely and safe month of May.

I think the hairdressers did a good job of making it so easy to touch up, and brilliant that the school organised that. Primary schools open this week in the Netherlands and I definitely think it is too soon. They say adults have to social distance from the children but the children don’t have to social distance from each other 🙁 *sigh*

    • Suzanne
      Suzanne says:

Oh yikes, that would make me nervous too. The kids are the main ones who struggle to wash their hands properly, etc.

And that’s great that your salon organized the home dye! My roots are getting obnoxious but on the bright side my hair color has also paled enough that the roots are a little less obvious (or at least so I tell myself haha)
Hope you’ll stay safe and healthy in these times!

    Flora says:

I’m glad to hear the hair dyeing was a success and wish you the same with your son’s lacklustre reading habit. Lol!
I was a Will & Grace fan when it aired here in the UK but haven’t watched a single episode of Seinfeld either so perhaps we could start a club! Lol!

Hope you continue to stay safe, Suzanne, and enjoy your May reads. x

      Suzanne says:

LOL! I just finally watched a few episodes of Seinfeld this week. It’s funny but I don’t know if I’m going to watch the entire series. It’s not calling to me the way Will & Grace did or even Friends, so maybe we haven’t missed much by not watching.
