Can’t Wait Wednesday – THE ONCE AND FUTURE WITCHES by Alix E. Harrow

“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted at Breaking the Spine, which encourages fellow bloggers to spotlight upcoming releases that we’re excited about.  It is a meme that I have  loved participating in for over a year now, but as Jill is no longer actively posting, from now on I’ll be linking to Can’t Wait Wednesday, hosted by Tressa at Wishful Endings, which is a spinoff of the original WoW meme.

My selection for this week is THE ONCE AND FUTURE WITCHES by Alix E. Harrow.  I started reading Harrow’s debut The Ten Thousand Doors of January this week and I’m completely enamored with it, so much so that I’m already looking ahead to see what she has coming out next.  When I saw that her next book is about witches and that it’s historical fiction, I immediately added it to my TBR. That gorgeous cover doesn’t hurt either.

From Goodreads:

In 1893, there’s no such thing as witches. There used to be, in the wild, dark days before the burnings began, but now witching is nothing but tidy charms and nursery rhymes. If the modern woman wants any measure of power, she must find it at the ballot box.

But when the Eastwood sisters–James Juniper, Agnes Amaranth, and Beatrice Belladonna–join the suffragists of New Salem, they begin to pursue the forgotten words and ways that might turn the women’s movement into the witch’s movement. Stalked by shadows and sickness, hunted by forces who will not suffer a witch to vote-and perhaps not even to live-the sisters will need to delve into the oldest magics, draw new alliances, and heal the bond between them if they want to survive.

There’s no such thing as witches. But there will be.

Ever since watching The Wizard of Oz, I’ve loved witches, and love watching movies and finding new books about them. Sounds like this will be very interesting! Hugs, RO

Witches and equality – now that does sound intriguing. I like that we have a group of sisters at the center of the story too.

Any witchy book gets my vote. I’m currently reading “Discovery of Witches”. I wasn’t aware there was a vampire in it though. 😛 I will add this one to my TBR. Thanks for sharing your can’t wait book, Suzanne. I’ve been adding so many to my TBR since quarantine and I miss my library.
