Weekly Recap #145: Week of 3/1 – 3/7

It’s time for another weekly recap post of all things happening on and off the blog. This week I’ll be linking to the Sunday Post, which is hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer.

So last week was a great week.  We got our temp on Monday, got her trained to take care of all of the time-consuming receptionist/administrative tasks that eat up so much of our time, and I had a very productive week with each of my 5 workdays being 80-90% billable for my firm.  It was the best week I had had in ages and I was happy.  But then Friday happened.  Late Friday afternoon I was informed that Friday would be the temp’s last day and that she doesn’t know it yet so I wasn’t to say anything.  I have no idea what happened and people were being cagey with the details and wouldn’t answer me when I asked if we’re getting a replacement temp.  Needless to say, I am not thrilled.

Outside of work, I’ve spent most of my time with the TV off and my nose in a book, trying to get a few moments’ reprieve from the Coronavirus talk and politics.  I don’t usually talk politics on here, but I have to admit I’m really bummed that Elizabeth Warren dropped out of the race for the Democratic nomination this week.  I thought she was an amazing candidate, so smart and so passionate, and I’m honestly starting to lose hope that I will see a woman President in my lifetime.  I just don’t know what it’s going to take to finally make it happen. Why are we so obsessed with having old white dudes in charge?  Anyway, off my soap box now…

So yeah, reading was, as always, my escape this week.  I read You Are Not Alone, which unfortunately was just an okay read for me. But then I jumped into Undercover Bromance, which I absolutely loved. I also saw that there’s going to be a third book in that series and I already have grabby hands for it!  I’ve just started Harley in the Sky this morning and am really enjoying it so far. I’ve had really good luck with Akemi Dawn Bowman’s books so I have high hopes for this one.  On the backlist front, I finished Liane Moriarty’s The Husband’s Secret and I started the audiobook of The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek, which I’m really enjoying.  As you can always see below, I drowned my work and political life sorrowing in a book buying spree. I didn’t mean to do that. It just kind of happened. It made me happy though so whatever. Sorry not sorry!

I also just looked at my calendar and realized that I have a blogoversary coming up later this month. 4 years!  I can’t believe it has been this long already and I definitely want to do a giveaway to celebrate, so be on the lookout for that.

Oh well, I think that’s pretty much it for me.  Have a great week, everyone!

I liked Bowman’s previous books, but wasn’t sure about Harley. I no longer have good luck with S&S either, so I am waiting to get it from the library. OMG! You got The Simple Wild. That was a great sale, and the book was so, so good. Enjoy all your new purchases.

I loved Undercover Bromance, and thought it was even better than the first book in the series. I’m right with you when it comes to grabby hands for the next book. I’ve needed a break from all of the Coronavirus talk, and I find that reading is often my escape from the stresses of everyday life. I don’t think we’ll get a female president in our lifetime either 🙁 Have a good weekend, and enjoy all of your books!

That’s so strange about the temp being let go already!! I’m glad the rest of the work week was really great, but I can see how this upcoming week might be more stressful again. Ugh, so annoying. Yay for having a great reading week. Sometimes you just have to turn off the news – it’s intense. And I’m sad that Elizabeth Warren dropped out too. I really thought she’d be an amazing candidate.

Right? I just love how passionate she is. I feel like she could have really made an impact as President and hope that she’ll consider 2024.

Urg! Letting the temp go too soon sounds so typical! My sister is being rushed off her feet because the management running her local chemist where she works refuse to hire sufficient staff. Customers are increasingly angry and rude, having to queue out of the shop for prescriptions and she is getting the brunt of it. And do the managers care? Nope.
I hope the coming week is smoother – ideally because Those In Charge see sense and keep the temp on.

That is a lot of new books! I’m wanting to read A Heart So Fierce and Broken and House of Earth and Blood too. Burying emotions by buying/reading books is a good way of doing it. The news is too depressing at the moment… And the work stuff sucks too. 🙁

The news really is depressing. I have turned off my TV and really cut back on looking at social media just to get a break from it.

I voted for Warren in the primary and I’m tired of old white dudes. I think the administration is doing a really poor job of handling the coronavirus stuff as well. I am so happy you had a great week and sorry about Friday.

I liked Undercover Bromance better than the first one. I requested the Honey Don’t List on audio so that will be later in the month. I would like to read the Sarah J Maas one also.

I hope you have a wonderful, productive, healthy week and read some great books!

I voted for Warren as well. I would have liked to see what she could as President and hope that she’ll consider another run in 2024.

I am loving all the books on your reading list this week. Just got back from regular grocery shopping.. could not get toilet paper, 409 cleaner or ketchup…the shelves were bare..and I mean bare. People must be going nuts.

I’m really looking forward to Harley in the Sky, and I’m starting The Honey-Don’t List soon! I hope we both love it! I ordered a signed copy of the new Maas book, but it hasn’t arrived yet. AHSFAB is one of my faves! Grey!

Oh no, that’s frustrating about the temp! Argh. Been there and had that where someone is being let go but you can’t say anything *insert eye roll here lol*. Gotta love work! And right about Warren? I try not to get political too very often but I had to make a little comment on my post as well. She’s just so intelligent and well informed, and seemed tome to be EASILY the best qualified- I mean I think she’s be a great President. It’s just so frustrating.

Anyway the bookstore graphic- so true!!!!

I’m sorry your work situation continues to be so frustrating, I hope it gets better soon.
I’m not American, but I was hoping for Warren to win too.

Wishing you a great reading week, I really want Crescent City.

It sounds like something weird is going on with the temp situation! I hope you eventually get an explanation for that. The coronavirus has now affected our state, and that was definitely reflected at Costco this weekend – it was so crowded, even more so than usual, and they were limiting customers to only 2 packages of bottled water.

We now have our first two cases of the virus as well. Thankfully we had stocked up on a few essentials before the panic started but I’ve heard that water, Clorox wipes, hand sanitizer, etc. is sold out everywhere.

Ugh. Sorry you lost the receptionist. It seems strange that they aren’t going to replace her. 😕

I cannot wait to read Hollow Kingdom! I have the hardcover, but I bought the ebook on sale yesterday for $2.99. 👍✨

    Have a wonderful week! 🌞

I’m sorry about the Temp, that sounds super sketchy and I hope they get you a replacement asap! And Book buying sprees make everything better! I have been avoiding the news too. I don’t do politics and my dad makes sure I know the super important stuff haha so I don’t have to actually watch the news myself!

I am glad that you managed to finally have a good work week, although a shame that at the end there was news of the temp leaving and no other information to follow :/ That is quite frustrating. I can completely understand escaping into reading. There has been so much going on with the virus and I simply can’t escape it everywhere in the world and everywhere on social media. I see you have A Heart so Fierce and Broken! And I feel like everyone is hauling in and reading Crescent City at the moment.

I’m very excited to finally have A Heart so Fierce and Broken and hope I can start it soon since I loved the first book so much.
