Weekly Recap #144: Week of 2/23 – 2/29

It’s time for another weekly recap post of all things happening on and off the blog. This week I’ll be linking to the Sunday Post, which is hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer.

I don’t know where the time has gone, but here we are, already at March 1st and just a few short weeks until spring.  I can’t wait for those warmer temps to finally get here. I feel like I’ve been in a weather-induced funk for months now.  This past week was thankfully a little better at work and our temp starts tomorrow, so I’m very excited about that.

Outside of work, not too much else has been going on.  My son and I have been discussing what he would like to see and do when we take him to NYC in June.  We have tickets to see Hamilton (my third time seeing it!) because he’s dying to see it, but that’s all we really have planned so far.  We talked about other plays/shows and he expressed interest in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child as well as To Kill a Mockingbird, so I’m checking into both of those for availability.  He has also mentioned wanting to see Times Square, the Statue of Liberty, and Central Park, but so far that’s it.  If anyone has ideas on what else might interest a 12-year old boy vacationing in New York, I’m all ears!

Reading-wise, I had a pretty good week. I finished reading all of my February ARCs and got started on the ones I have for March.  I’ll be posting a selection of mini reviews tomorrow to share my thoughts on those with you.  As you can see below, I also acquired several more ARCs this week. I hadn’t planned to do that since I’m trying to focus more on books I own this year, but it just kind of happened anyway. Most were invitations to review that I couldn’t resist, but there were also a couple of requests in there that I got approvals for as well.

Oh well, I think that’s pretty much it for me.  Have a great week, everyone!

Hmmm, I grew up in Brooklyn and even lived in Manhattan at one point, so NYC as a tourist is a mystery to me. The Statue of Liberty is always great. Does he like boats? I remember going to the Intrepid as a kid, the UN, Top of the Rock, the Empire State Building. My daughter’s college friend got a role in Cursed Child. It almost makes me want to see it. If you could see me, you would see how green I am. I want that new Center book. I’m in open request limbo, so I can still hope.

I hope the temp gets up to speed quickly at the office. I just love vacation planning. Between the sightseeing and the shows I’m sure you’ll all have a great time. I got Big Summer, too, and I am so excited for it. I really love Jennifer Weiner and her 2019 release was one of my favorites of the year.

So many great looking books, wow! Well, the last time I was in NY was in the 90´s. I was inside the Statue of Liberty and in the museum and had a great time there. Not sure if a 12-year-old is willing to climb the steps for hours. But the museum was a hit. Central Park is a great place to be and if you can and he wants, visit the museum and place where once the Twin Towers have been. But be prepared that the atmosphere there can be overwhelming. Otherwise just have fun and enjoy your stay in NYC.

My kiddo just found out that the Central Park Zoo has a red panda and is now determined to go! We’re just soooo far away!
I hope you have a great time though! Maybe try to visit some museums or libraries while there!

    Have a great week! 🙂

Your son has some good ideas for NYC! I love Central Park – so many things to see! You could practically spend a whole day there. If he likes trains, maybe check out Grand Central? I’ve never been there but it’s supposed to be beautiful.

I agree about Central Park. We spent hours wandering there a couple of years ago and I know we barely scratched the surface of all there was to see.

Well he wouldn’t like most of the things we do there. But if he likes food, there are some food on foot tours which are fun. We like the National History Museum. But the bargain shopping tour and fabric store we enjoy won’t be his thing.

I LOVED Undercover Bromance, better than the first book. I also liked Katherine Center so I may have to go find that book you got. Gorgeous cover.

Have a great week and enjoy your books!

I’m also reading You Are Not Alone and The Two Lives of Lydia Bird this week. I’ve fallen behind, so hopefully I’ll have some reading time during my evenings.

I hope you and your son have a fun trip! 🙂

Good luck with your ARC’s! Hopefully they’re all good. I’m thinking of getting You Are Not Alone. that looks pretty good and I’ve been wanting to try the authors.

I’m totally ready for spring! It was in the 50’s here today haha and we had (gasp) blue sky and it just was really nice! Hard to believe it’s March already!!

You Are Not Alone is pretty good. A little slow in the beginning but it’s building to what feels like will be a wild finish.

I STILL need to see Hamilton – one day, I tell you!! I do recommend Cursed Child if you can get tickets – I absolutely love the play. Hmm…I’m trying to think of things a 12 year old boy would want to do in NYC. I’ve been many times now, but I don’t always do the touristy type of things. LOL I’ll keep thinking!

I really hope you’ll get to see Hamilton. It’s the musical I recommend to everyone because it’s just that good.

That’s so cool that you’re going to see Hamilton again!!! I missed my opportunity to see it when the original cast came to PR to perform it last year. You Are Not Alone is a book I’ve been seeing around a lot and would like to read!

I’m sorry you missed out on Hamilton with the original cast. I’m excited that Disney will be releasing it as a film next year.

Planning vacays can be such fun! I’d love to see Hamilton, so I’m a bit jealous. I don’t think I’m up for braving that many people, though. Enjoy your reads this week! I’m hoping to get to Undercover Bromance soon.

I’m hoping to start Undercover Bromance tomorrow. I’ve heard great things about it so hopefully we’ll both love it.

Yay for all the reading. I am behind in writing my reviews or maybe I am in a funk, because I keep picking up another book or audio and not sitting down and getting them done. New York is such a fun city to visit. Let’s hope Spring arrives in full force quickly!

Oh wow, so far that NYC trip is always sounding amazing to me. I haven’t been since I was about 4? 5? So I won’t be much use for advice on where to go. I hope you can get seats for the other two plays though! And I hope the warmer weather finds you soon. Summer is ending here and autumn is fast approaching.
