Weekly Recap #138: Week of 1/12 – 1/18

It’s time for another weekly recap post of all things happening on and off the blog. This week I’ll be linking to the Sunday Post, which is hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer and to Stacking the Shelves, which is hosted by Tynga’s Reviews.

I’m still enjoying the calm before the storm this week, as most of my office mates are out at various pre-tax season trainings or are otherwise prepping for our upcoming busy season.  I think we’ll have one more quiet week before things really take off.  Quiet weeks mean lots of reading time so I’m currently reading my 10th and 11th books of the year right now.  I still have four January ARCs to read, down from the 17 I started with in December — but then in keeping with my goal to read more of the books I own this year, I’m aiming to really scale back on how many ARCs I request per month.  I think I have 9 for February and only 6 for March so I’m slowly but surely getting myself under control, lol.

Not too much else has been going on. That lovely warm weather spell we had been having here snapped a couple of days ago and now we’re back to winter with its snow, sleet, and cold temps.  I had spent many of my afternoons last week out walking and listening to audiobooks but now I’m back to hibernating in my reading room until spring.  Have I mentioned how much I hate to be cold?

I also opened my Netflix app for the first time in a few months because the new season of Grace & Frankie dropped last week. I love that show so much!  It just gets funnier and funnier every season, and Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda are just pure gold together.

My son’s indoor soccer league started back up this week too so we have a game to go to this afternoon. After that, I’ll be fitting in some blog hopping since that’s another of my goals for 2020.

I think that’s pretty much it for me.  Have a great week, everyone!

Suzanne, enjoy the next (last) week of calm at work! And yes I get what you mean by hybernating! I have to kick my behind into move when the weather is cold and gloomy and still go for a walk!

Yay to getting in so much reading before the storm! That’s a great way to relax a little too. Yes!!!! I totally agree with you on Grace and Frankie, and this season promises to be another fun one. The interaction between everyone always makes me laugh so much, and I look forward to each episode. Hope your Sunday is a good one, and sending some hugs your way! RO

I am morally opposed to this cold weather, and ask that it return to last week’s temperatures. I don’t know if it was intentional or there just weren’t that many books to request, but I had very little for Feb too. I only have 1 Feb release to read, and it’s scheduled for this week. I am jealous you got the new Josie Silver. I loved her last book, and cannot wait to read the new one. Hope you are enjoying Ellie’s story. I liked it

I’m right there with you on the temps. Last week was such a wonderful spring teaser and I want more of it. I was surprised but thrilled to be approved for the Silver book. And oh yes, I’m really enjoying Ellie’s story. I’m breezing through it and hope to finish it tonight or tomorrow.

I need to make time for the new season of Grace and Frankie, it’s a hilarious show and I’m sad this will be the last one.
I had 3 books left for the month and then four more showed up unsolicited so I have to try and squeeze them in now.

Wishing you a great reading week

Only when it’s not super busy or when I’m doing things that don’t require a lot of concentration. Then I can usually manage to listen to audiobooks.

I have the same things with so many ARCs right now but it gets lighter. It’s so hard not to request things when I really want to read or listen to them Good luck to both of us on that restraint.

I have been enjoying our weather which is more like fall or spring than winter but we are getting a freezing spell the next 3 days. I hope it goes back to warmer then.

Have a wonderful week and enjoy your reads!

HAH love the Meatloaf meme. So true! It’s been really weird weather around me. This weekend was warmer, but lots of rain, and now it’s flurrying. haha

I’ve hardly watched any Netflix either until just this last week or so. there are so many new shows lol. And same here with the weather- the snow is back in force! I guess it’s definitely winter now!

I’m thinking of getting The Other people- it looks good.

I am glad you have been able to get in so much reading before the busy season starts up at work. I think Friday was the first day since before the holidays we felt like we were back in full force. It was crazy busy. We still have about four people out on medical leave right now and are short a supervisor. I hope your son has a good indoor soccer season! Mouse has auditions this coming weekend for the summer ballet and musical. She’s really hoping to do both. Cookie season also starts next weekend . . . I wish I could say I was looking forward to it like my daughter is, but, well, that would be a lie. I’m trying to mentally prepare myself. Haha. I hope you enjoy all your new books! Have a great week, Suzanne.

Right? And now we seem to be hovering the 30’s with these awful biting wind gusts. I’m a weather wimp so I just cringe every time I have to walk outside, lol.

Wow, you’re on a reading roll! My reading is still slowly picking back up after my epic slump but it feels so good to be reading at all! All I can say is: thank goodness for audio books! LOL It’s turned cold here, too, and I’m loving it. I’m sure it’s short-lived (it always is here) so I’ll enjoy it while it lasts.

Audiobooks are what have kept me rolling with my backlist reads. I’m really into the whole multitasking thing right now with listening and working/doing chores, etc.

Enjoy the calm before the storm at work! We’re reaching crazy time at my work too and it’s hideous… Roll on April!

I’ve been cutting way back on the arcs too… It’s all about reducing pressure for me. I’m finding that the more moody my reading becomes the less I can handle ARCs. I may be in the mood for it when I request it but by the time I have it, the mood is (more often than not) passed and it makes it hard to read them in time. 🙁
