Weekly Recap #136: Week of 12/22 – 12/28

It’s time for another weekly recap post of all things happening on and off the blog. This week I’ll be linking to the Sunday Post, which is hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer and to Stacking the Shelves, which is hosted by Tynga’s Reviews.

I Hope everyone who was celebrating this week had a wonderful holiday.  Mine was very nice. We kept things pretty low key and mainly just enjoyed spending the day together.  We spread out making visits to other family members over the entire week rather than trying to jam it all into one day and it was much more relaxing than usual.  Since I had to work on Christmas Eve and the day after Christmas, the low key Christmas Day was especially nice.  I’m off from work from now until January 6 so I’m looking forward to lots more relaxing and then a short trip to NYC to see some shows with one of my besties next weekend.

I’ve gotten a pretty decent amount of reading in between the low-key holiday and the painfully slows days at work. I still have 2 and a half ARCs to read for January 7th but that’s down from 8 this time last week, so yay for progress! I also have a bunch to get through for January 14th, but after that, one of my main goals for 2020 is to focus less on ARCs and more on books I already own.  I’m still debating how many challenges I’m going to take part in, but the one that I know I’ll do is the Beat the Backlist challenge. I read 36 books from my backlist this year and really want to increase that number in 2020.

I think that’s about it for me.  I’d like to take a moment and wish everyone in the bookish community a happy and healthy 2020. Thank you all for your friendship and support. You’re the best!

Yay to that little mini-vacation and the trip to New York. Hope you post lots of pics! Isn’t it great to relax for the holidays instead of all the running around? Definitely a lot less stress free. Kudos on getting in some reading too! Hugs, RO

Yeah, I really messed up with requesting ARCs. I had three or four last minute approvals that I wasn’t expecting, all for January 7th. Fingers crossed I can get them all read in time.

I also worked on Christmas Eve Suzanne but I am off work now! I hope you’ll enjoy your holiday! And talking about backlist I intend to read some of mine next year too!

Your Christmas week sounded wonderful, Suzanne. We had a more relaxing week too. I’m not back at work until the week of 6th too so I’m hoping to read and write some blog posts to put in the schedule. Spending time with your friends in NYC sounds fab, makes me realise I haven’t seen a couple of my mates for ages.
Happy New Year and I hope you enjoy the rest of your week, Suzanne.

Sounds like a nice, low-key holiday, Suzanne. Smart to spread all the visiting out. It’s just too exhausting otherwise. Enjoy your time off! Hope you can get caught up with your January ARCs.

I’m glad you had a nice low key Christmas and spread out your visits through the week. Sounds like a good idea! I really want to focus on more of the books I own in 2020 too.

Enjo your week off. We didn’t have any family out to visit, so ours was quiet too. Just the Royals. My husband has been home all week so it was low-key and relaxing. This week will be the same. Enjoy your trip to NY! Happy New Year!!

A low-key, relaxing holiday sounds perfect! We spread out our family visits, too – we used to visit everyone in one day, and we spent more time in the car than with everyone. Enjoy your time off!

That’s exactly the way it was for us too. Just rushing from place to place. Everyone seems to prefer it the way we did it this year, so I think it will be a new tradition. 🙂

Glad to hear you had a nice holiday, and seeing some shows is always fun. I was just talking to my daughter how I am more or less priced out of Broadway, and I grew up seeing shows all the time. I hope you have a great, safe, and fun trip. Love Hate Thing is one of the Jan ARCs I have yet to get to. I am eager to see what you think (reviews are all over the place)

Broadway is definitely pricey. I usually have to save up throughout the year to buy tickets if I know I’m going to NYC. Yes, I’ve seen a lot of mixed reviews for A Love Hate Thing. I’m on a blog tour for it so I hope I like it.

I’m glad it was a relaxing holiday and you certainly managed a bunch of reading! Yay for the next week off!

I have the same issue with reading books I already own rather than taking so many ARCs or blog tours. I’m going to do Bookish Resolutions because I can more clearly focus on my goals. I did the backlist and read double my goal but mostly they were library books or series catchup books rather than books I actually own.

Happy New Year and enjoy your week!

Glad you had a nice Christmas!! Low key can be good, especially when you have to work around the holiday. Hope you have a nice New Year’s as well! The Ten Thousand Doors of January looks awesome and I’m hoping to read that one soon too.

Yikes – 8 arcs on the one day??? No wonder you are cutting back. I’m always a bit gobsmacked how all the traditional publishers release books on set days together…

Have a very Happy New Year, Suzanne:))

It’s pretty crazy that they don’t spread these out more but then silly of me not to pay more attention so that I don’t get in jams like this. I just read the synopsis, think it sounds great, and click the button without looking at the pub date. One of these days I’ll learn, lol.

Glad you had a relaxing Christmas. May I ask what team you are on at the Beat the Backlist challenge? I am still thinking about what Backlist challenge I will participate in next year but have not decided yet. Have a wonderful New Year´s Eve and a wonderful start into 2020.

Happy New Year, Vi! I just signed up for the backlist challenge yesterday and decided to be on the Multi-Taskers team since I always read more than one book at a time.

Yay for lowkey and easygoing holidays. Those are truly the best and it gives you all the reading time. I am looking forward to seeing what you think of The Ten Thousand Doors of January as I am very excited about reading that one 🙂
