Weekly Recap #132: Week of 11/24 – 11/30

It’s time for another weekly recap post of all things happening on and off the blog. This week I’ll be linking to the Sunday Post, which is hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer and to Stacking the Shelves, which is hosted by Tynga’s Reviews.

I hope everyone who was celebrating had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday.  Ours was a low-key holiday at home with just our immediate family, but it was very nice.  We started the day with the parade, then got busy in the kitchen with football on in the background.  The meal was enjoyed by all, even me in spite of the low carb, low sugar diet I’m on, which meant I needed to avoid all of my favorites – no potatoes, no stuffing, no homemade mac and cheese, and no desserts. The struggle was real but I did well with the main meal and only ended up cheating a little at dessert time with a small sliver of apple pie.  So far I’ve also avoided all of the leftovers too, which is a major change for me from previous years.  I finished the holiday with a marathon of Hallmark movies, which was a relaxing way to end the day.

Actually most of the holiday weekend has been quiet because I don’t do Black Friday either.  There’s nothing I need to buy badly enough to get out in all of that chaos.  I slept in, did a little shopping online, watched more Hallmark movies, started decorating for Christmas, and got some reading done.  I finished Red Winter by Annette Marie, which I enjoyed so much that I went ahead and picked up the other two books in the series.  I also started on Meg & Jo, which is a modern Little Women retelling, which I hope to finish by tonight.

The big excitement for my holiday weekend actually takes place today because I’m taking my mom and sister to see Hamilton the musical.  I’ve seen it once and am completely obsessed with it so I can’t wait to share the magic with my family today.  Post-holiday traffic is going to be a bear since I’ll be traveling on I-95 but it’s going to be so worth it!

Oh and before I forget, I also have a giveaway running on Instagram right now.  Be sure to check it out!  —> IG Giveaway

Anyway, I think that’s about it for me.  Have a great week, everyone!

Good luck with your trip. I hope the traffic is kind to you, and that the play lives up to your expectations. I read First & Then the other day, and as with every other Emma Mills book, I loved it. Hope you like it too. Wow. Low carb, low sugar. I admire you strength and fortitude.

I hope you get to see Hamilton at some point. It’s one of the few musicals I’ve been to that really lives up to all of the hype.

Have so much fun at Hamilton! My husband is also doing a pretty strict diet lately, but he decided to come off it for Thanksgiving and a couple days afterward, which was good because we had tons of leftovers and I definitely wasn’t going to eat it all!

Happy thanksgiving Suzanne! It sounds like it was such a good, family day! I hope your family adores Hamilton as much as you do! Report back!! I can only live vicariously through everyone else’s experiences of it!

Hamilton is such a wonderful show, one of the few I’ve seen that lives up to and even exceeds the hype. I hope that you can see it someday.

Happy Thanksgiving – I’m glad you enjoyed it, even if you couldn’t eat tons of it. I can’t have gluten so I’m a bit limited in what I can eat too. I also watched lots of Christmas Hallmark and Lifetime movies and I just love them. So relaxing. Ooh I’m so jealous you’re seeing Hamilton again. I’d love to see it someday!

Glad to hear you had a good Thanksgiving. Ours was quiet, just us and the kids. My son experienced his first Black Friday Sale while working at Walmart. He said it was crazy. We ate and watched movies all day.

Suzanne, I began reading red Winter three days ago as part of a buddy read! It’s on hold right now as I got other ARCs but I so love it so far!!!

It’s really good. I wasn’t sure what to expect going in but was pleasantly surprised and look forward to continuing the series.

I hope you loved Hamilton and enjoyed going to see it!! And it’s always nice to have a cosy Thanksgiving so I am glad you enjoyed all the food and time with immediate family. I did no black friday shopping this year or cyber monday, and I’m feeling quite proud. Online shopping is a good way to dodge that chaos!

Oh yes, Hamilton was amazing. Definitely a show that lives up to the hype. Well done avoiding all of the shopping madness this weekend. I ended up doing a little online shopping on Monday, but I only bought a couple of things so I was pretty proud of myself too, lol.

YES! I’m so glad you enjoyed Red Winter! I really liked it too. I’m waiting for Christmas giftcards (shameful, I know but I always get them…) to buy the rest of the trilogy on audiobook. I can’t wait to see what happens with Shiro and Emi next!

Your Thanksgiving sounds awesome, btw. Well, except for the low carb/sugar thing but I applaud your commitment for sticking to it despite the temptations! 🙂

    I was on low carb, low fat diet and lost a couple of pound but oh my gosh yes it’s so hard especially during the holidays! I applaud you for making through it. A little bit of apple pie never hurt no body (;
Glad you enjoyed your weekend. I avoid black fridays as well.

Yeah, I think this is the hardest time of the year to try to do low carb. I’m supposed to go back to my doctor in January so I’m really hoping that will motivate me to control myself through Christmas and New Year’s. We’ll see how it goes, lol.

Oh yep, the Black Friday. I don´t do it either. Not online and for sure not in a store. Way too crazy. People act as if they aren´t able to get what they want during the rest of the year and when I see how the stores create their prices, it is a joke anyway. Not sure about what diet you are one but I wish you success and that you will reach your goal. Happy reading and have a great week.
