Weekly Recap #122: Week of 9/15 – 9/21

It’s time for another weekly recap post of all things happening on and off the blog. This week I’ll be linking to the Sunday Post, which is hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer and to Stacking the Shelves, which is hosted by Tynga’s Reviews.

I took an unplanned mini break from blogging the second half of last week.  Between work, soccer, and planning for my son’s birthday, I just ran out of time and energy for everything else.  My son got to go to an amusement park yesterday with a friend to celebrate and then we’re having a family party for him today.  The pre-teen attitude has also kicked in in full force this weekend, so it has just been a delightful time for all, lol.

Anyway, once the party is over today, I’ll be back to blogging on my normal schedule with a review post tomorrow for Alice Hoffman’s new book, The World That We Knew.  I won’t be reviewing Renia’s Diary as planned because that unfortunately ended up being a DNF for me.  It was compared to Anne Frank’s diary, but this one just lacked the depth and reflection that we got with Anne’s and instead truly read mostly as a regular teen diary with bits here and there about Poland during WWII.  It was fine, and of course an important account since Renia did not survive the war, but it just wasn’t what I thought it would be.  Aside from that, the only other thing I read was A Storm of Swords for the IronThrone readalong.  I was several hundred pages behind in my reading but finally got caught back up this week.  This week I’ll be working on all of my October 1 ARCs, starting with Royal Holiday, which I started yesterday and am already over halfway finished with.  It reads like a Hallmark Christmas movie so I’m really enjoying it.

Aside from that, I’m hoping for a quiet week. I’ll probably watch the Emmy’s tonight.  I don’t watch much TV but I am curious to see how many awards Game of Thrones wins for its final season.  The main one I’m rooting for is Gwendolyn Christie.  Brienne of Tarth has been a favorite of mine throughout the series and I think her best season was the final so I’d love to see her take home a trophy.

Anyway, I think that’s pretty much it for me.  Have a great week, everyone!

What? It’s the Emmy today? I wonder who will win! And I get it that sometimes we have too much to do and are too tired to blog. That’s something I decided these last weeks; to take it easy as to not burn out myself!

Everyone needs a break and you have to roll with it. Sometimes one thing has to take a priority over other things. Hopefully this week will be a bit quieter and you can take care of yourself and fit in a bit more of relaxing and reading.

Oh I also took a break both this week AND last week, given I was away. But that’s okay because sometimes we have to leave our computers and go and do real life things:)).

Glad your son’s birthday party went well – it’s always a tricky age for boys. I think they are often quite horrible at this age and gradually go on improving in small increments as they become steadily a bit more reasonable, while girls stay nicer longer and then in their mid-teens become impossible…

I hope the coming week is a bit less hectic, Suzanne:)

You’re the fun mom. I think it’s great you did an amusement park for your son’s birthday. I was a teacher for 12 years and fully understand the “joy” of being with teens. I guess saying Royal Holiday is like a Hallmark movie is not a bad comparison (BTW I love Hallmark movies). I enjoyed Royal Holiday, though I was not blown away. I was smiling, but I didn’t have a strong emotional response. Still a good read.

I agree about not having a strong emotional response to Royal Holiday. It started off strong for me but now I’m struggling a bit to finish it.

Happy Birthday to your son! I hope he has enjoyed his birthday. It sounds like he had a lot of fun activities planned. That is too bad about Renia’s Diary. I’m eager to hear your thoughts on your current reads, particularly Cilka’s Journey and Royal Holiday. I hope you have a great week, Suzanne!

Ooh the Emmy’s are tonight- I didn’t even know that lol. Guess I’m outta the loop! Yes it will be interesting to see how GoT does. And yay for breaks- sometimes you just need them! 🙂

The Shape of Night looks good.

Yeah, I kind of “failed” on the whole blogging front last week, but it happens!! I’m really going to try and blog ahead more often because the Fall is super busy and I know it’s just going to get worse if I try and do things all last minute. haha I hope your son had a nice birthday, but booo pre-teen attitude. LOL
