Weekly Recap #119: Week of 8/25 – 8/31

It’s time for another weekly recap post of all things happening on and off the blog. This week I’ll be linking to the Sunday Post, which is hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer and to Stacking the Shelves, which is hosted by Tynga’s Reviews.

I hope everyone who has a long Labor Day weekend is enjoying it.  I know Hurricane Dorian is bearing on the East Coast of the U.S. so I hope everyone who is potentially impacted has completed their storm prep and evacuated as needed.  I’m in Virginia so we’re just basically in wait-and-see mode as to how much rain, if any, we’ll get from the storm if it tracks further north.   Thankfully, the past couple of days have been gorgeous and today looks good too so at least our outdoor Labor Day activities should go off without a hitch.

I kind of fizzled on my blogging late in the week again, mainly because my son’s first soccer game was Thursday night and we had extra practices leading up to it.  I really should just start taking my laptop with me and blogging while he’s practicing. It would be a much better use of my time than sitting there watching the clock and wondering how much longer we have to stay there, lol. Sadly, his team did not win their first game, they lost 4-2, but I still thought they looked good and were competitive so hopefully they’ll have a good season overall.

I was also a blogging bum because I hunkered down into reading mode to get all of my September 3rd ARCs read.  I’m working on the last one now so not too bad considering how far behind I was this time last Sunday. As far as what I read, I haven’t decided if I’m going to do a full review for The Girl the Sea Gave Back.  I was really looking forward to that one because I enjoyed Sky in the Deep so much, but in a lot of ways, the second book fell flat for me.  I’m struggling to put my finger on exactly why, hence possibly no review because I just don’t know what to say.  Bringing Down the Duke was a great read though so I’m looking forward to reviewing that one and I also have an excerpt the publisher sent me that I’ll be sharing as well.  The Ann Cleeves book is the one I’m currently working on and so far I’m really enjoying it. I really like Cleeves writing and the murder mystery has already sucked me in so I’m expecting it to be a quick read.

While I was in reading mode, I also finished my re-read of the second book for the #IronThrone readalong.  I think I’m still a week behind but am getting ready to start A Storm of Swords so I’m pretty excited about that.

I think that’s pretty much it for me.  Have a great week, everyone!

That’s exactly what I’m thinking. I probably couldn’t concentrate well enough to write actual posts but I’m sure I could at least blog hop and comment pretty easily.

Sorry the sequel fell flat for you. I hate being disappointed like that. I see you picked up Center’s last book. After finishing Things You Save in a Fire, I immediately put a hold on How to Walk Away. It was wonderful! My library has a few more of her books, and I will definitely be checking them out.

    I love your Totally Random!

I was a blog bum this week, too, with far less excuse. Actually, pretty much the whole of last month. Hopefully I can do better this month! As for taking your laptop and blogging during your son’s practice, I used to knit during my child’s ballet classes, so why not? Use the time for something productive.

I’m glad I wasn’t the only one who was a blog bum, lol. That’s cool that you were able to knit during classes. I try to read now but sometimes find it hard to concentrate. I think blog hopping and commenting would work though so will have to give it a try and see.

Oh taking your laptop would be a great idea. I recall spending lots of time hanging around between matches or when he was subbed off. I’d retreat to the car and read… but these days the laptop would be the answer!

I hope this week is a peaceful one and that Dorian doesn’t end up being as destructive as feared… Take care!

Thanks! Yes, I really think the laptop is the way to go. I try to read sometimes but can never seem to concentrate. Something lighter like blog hopping and commenting seems like it would be easier.

I hope you are enjoying your weekend. I’m sorry about your son’s first game, but hopefully it will be a good season. I keep telling myself I need to take my laptop to the dance studio with me so I can get some work done on my blog as well. I wouldn’t have access to internet, but I could at least get some behind the scenes writing done. Especially with rehearsals starting up again on Saturdays.

I am glad you were able to get caught up on your reading. I think I will always be behind. LOL

I will be curious to know what you think of Turn of the Key and Never Have I Ever. I have read the Ware book, but haven’t yet posted my review.

    Have a wonderful week!

Sucks about The Girl The Sea Gave Back, I was curious about that one (and I love the cover). 29 seconds sounds so interesting! It’s not my kind of book but I’ve got it earmarked for my mum as it’s exactly the type of thing she loves. 🙂

Sorry your little guy’s team lost their first match but good to know it was competitive! It’ll make for more entertaining games the coming season. I laughed at your taking your laptop to the practises suggestion. I totally would. I sit through my kid’s fencing levels glued to my kindle because it’s undisturbed reading time!

I always try to read while I’m at those practices but for whatever reason, seem to easily get distracted. I’m hoping that something like blog hopping and commenting will be easier to do while I’m there. Fingers crossed anyway, lol.

I fizzled on blogging too, last week was not a good one for me and blogging haha! Sorry to hear about The Girl The Sea Gave Back- I was kinda hopeful about that one. Sorry it didn’t quite click for you.

A storm of Swords! Wow you guys are moving right along. 🙂

Haha, I’m so glad I’m not the only one who fizzled with the blogging! Yeah, we are really rolling right along with the readalong. I’m impressed with myself since it took me months to read each of those books the first time around.

I’m always listening to audiobooks while waiting at my daughter’s appointments. I really enjoyed The Long Call and yes, I’m struggling with my last Sep 3 ARC. It’s one I REALLY wanted too. Harp of Kings by Juliet Marillier. But there were so many for that date! Have a lovely holiday and a great week with some good books!
