Can’t Wait Wednesday – HARLEY IN THE SKY by Akemi Dawn Bowman

“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted at Breaking the Spine, which encourages fellow bloggers to spotlight upcoming releases that we’re excited about.  It is a meme that I have  loved participating in for over a year now, but as Jill is no longer actively posting, from now on I’ll be linking to Can’t Wait Wednesday, hosted by Tressa at Wishful Endings, which is a spinoff of the original WoW meme.

My selection for this week is HARLEY IN THE SKY by Akemi Dawn Bowman. I adored this author’s first two books, Starfish and Summer Bird Blue, so she is basically an auto-buy author for me now.  I love that this features a girl running away from home to join the circus and I just know that Bowman is going to put her unique spin on it and turn it into an emotionally engaging story that will have me reaching for my tissues.

From akemidawnbowman.com:

Harley Milano has dreamed of being a trapeze artist for as long as she can remember. With parents who run a famous circus in Las Vegas, she spends almost every night in the big top watching their lead aerialist perform, wishing with all her soul that she could be up there herself one day.

After a huge fight with her parents, who continue to insist she go to school instead, Harley leaves home, betrays her family and joins the rival traveling circus Maison du Mystère. There, she is thrust into a world that is both brutal and beautiful, where she learns the value of hard work, passion and collaboration. But at the same time, Harley must come to terms with the truth of her family and her past—and reckon with the sacrifices she made and the people she hurt in order to follow her dreams.

From award-winning author Akemi Dawn Bowman comes a luminous, unforgettable examination of love, loyalty, and the hard choices we must make to find where we truly belong. Publication is set for March 10th, 2020 with Simon Pulse/Simon & Schuster.

You can also read an exclusive excerpt over at Paste Magazine.

I like this for what it says about Harley having to face the people she hurt and deal with the sacrifices she made — blurbs don’t often have things like that in coming of age stories like this (for me anyway)

This must be the big new release coming as I keep seeing it pop up everywhere! The circus setting is especially intriguing. I haven’t tried this author before, but I am glad you have enjoyed a couple of her other books. This one sounds really good! I hope you enjoy it! Have a great week, Suzanne!

Ohh this is almost identical to a self published Australian novel that was released last year called the Circus Hearts series. A trapeze artist that joins another troupe, falls in love. It’s uncanny. I can’t wait for this one to be released to compare the two, it sounds just as amazing! Thanks so much for sharing Suzanne.

Oh cool, I hadn’t heard of Circus Hearts. I love the story idea so if I end up liking this one, I’ll have to find a copy of the other to check out as well.

Sounds very familiar. Years ago my parents had the same fight with my younger sister. Seems that sometimes life writes the best stories, doesn´t it? Thanks for sharing and happy reading.
